One of my favorite things to do is to “Pay it Forward” in life.  My mom taught me that by example- I grew up watching it.  I lived it.  I am working hard to teach it to my own children.  Almost 2 years ago, when reading another blog, I was intrigued by a post called” Bag It Forward” and fell in love with the concept of this project from that moment.   If you aren’t already familiar, “Bag It Forward” is a campaign that Elmer’s launches each year during the summer, to help those in need to have the tools and supplies that they need to learn at school or teach at school.

This is one of my favorite times of year to give and pay things forward- er, bag things forward, because of the crazy deals you can find on school supplies.  Week after week there are items you can get for FREE or literally just a few pennies from multiple retailers.  There are so many folks out there who don’t have the ability to take advantage of these sales and deals for a multitude of reasons- but that’s ok, because the rest of us can step in and make a huge impact, one bag at a time.  You can do SO MUCH for so, so little.

Back to school shoppers can give even more by downloading the free 1st Day App from Elmer’s to capture their students important 1st Day of School photos, as well as all of their other important photos!  Every photo uploaded will support the Kids In Need Foundation as Elmer’s will donate an item for each photo, up to $200,000.00!

Now, I get to help spread the word about “Bag It Forward” AND help give out some prizes.  I’m hosting a Twitter party for #BagItForward!  I do hope you will come and join us, chat with us about helping students and teachers in need, and maybe even win a prize!!

#BagItForward is a movement and a call to action. People across the country have joined together to help provide quality school supplies for the children and teachers in their local communities. On average, teachers spend $356 of their personal money on quality school supplies every year. By simply picking up an extra bag of school supplies for a child or teacher in your life, you can make a huge impact! Join us and #BagItForward!

  • Wow..this is such a great idea!! I have seen a couple of other blogger who have posted that they are bagging it forward and it means so much. As a preschool teach of children with special needs in the public school system, I am amazed at how the public is so unaware of how much teachers actually put out of their own for their students. Thanks so much for putting this out there!!

  • @Tweetin2Shoes – Our teachers purchase school supplies, decorations for the classroom, prizes for the kids… I donate Kleenex, Papertowels, and Clorox wipes every year!

  • My step sister in law is a teacher and she recently told me she spends about $1,000-$2,000 out of pocket per year for her classroom. This looks like a wonderful cause to help both students and teachers in need!
