Talk about a perfectly timed review, my 2 and 4 year olds and I are all sick with cough/cold general YUCK symptoms….and what arrived at our doorstep Saturday afternoon?  A box of goodies from Boiron with Chestal Honey cough syrup, Coldcalm pellets, and Children’s oscillococcinum.

Here is a summary from Boiron of what they sent us:

Children’s Oscillococcinum for flu and flu-like symptoms (oh-sill-oh-cox-see-num) or Oscillo for short
1) Oscillo has been around in France for 65 years.
2) Kids’ love the taste of these sweet pellets. They dissolve under the tongue without water.
3) It’s best to take at the first signs of feeling run down, body aches, chills or fever. It’s safe so there’s no reason to hesitate taking and it can nip symptoms in the bud before they get worse
4) Safe for kids 2 years of age and older.

Children’s Coldcalm for multi-symptom cold relief
1) Coldcalm comes in quick dissolving oral pellets. There’s no water, swallowing or chewing involved.
2) Children’s Coldcalm is an all-in-one medicine for the different phases of a cold: sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion and minor sore throat pain.
3) Safe for kids 3 years of age and older.

Children’s Chestal for all types of coughs
1) This multi-formula cough syrup simplifies choosing a cough medicine because it works on all types of coughs—wet, dry, whooping, night and day coughs. It’s a more economical way of treating many types of coughs
2) Chestal uses the natural goodness of honey as a base to soothe the throat
3) Kids love the taste because of the sweetness of the honey.
4) Safe for kids 2 years of age and older.

What we LIKE about these products:

Safe.  None of the ingredients questioned by the FDA for kids under 6.

No side effects.
No interaction with other meds- so you can give a different cough medication and it won’t interact- no overdose risk there.
Sweet taste.
Easy to use!
My 2 year old can do the Chestal and the Oscillo for relief as he needs.
Recyclable packaging.

Once I was able to convince my 4 year old that she wasn’t going to be drinking “coffee” syrup, she agreed it tasted good, and has asked for more when she has a rough spell of coughing.  She says it helps.  I agree.  Its been a rough few days for her, particularly at bedtime, with the coughing- there’s a noticeable difference when she’s had some of the chestal vs. when she hasn’t had it.

Natural ingredients, and effective.

What we DON’T like:
The Chestal syrup is sticky.  (Its made from honey, kind of expected…not enough to deter us from buying nor using, just really sticky!)

See, there isn’t much we don’t like about these products, or any others we’ve tried from Boiron- we’ve been using the Camilia teething relief for several years (all 3 kids!) and use the Calendula to help my son’s burn on his arm to heal.  There’s not much TO dislike, in my book!!

Boiron has generously offered to send the same three items to one of our readers!!!!
