Can guy/girl friendships be enough? (Big Bang Theory)

Until season 4, ‘The Big Bang Theory’ primarily focused on the core friendship of the guys with Penny as the lone girl. In Season 4, Penny gets some girlfriends with the introduction of Bernadette and Amy. Do you think that guys and girls can have standalone deep friendship or do girls need girl time and guys need time with the boys?

I love the relationship that Penny has, and always has had, with ‘the guys’ from The Big Bang Theory.  Its funny, its fresh, its new- or rather, it was.  I had mixed feelings last year when Penny started developing other friendships with the females in the lives of the guys- but over time, I got used to it and even grew to enjoy it.  I still love the original concept of Penny being “it” for gal pals for the guys, and them being her circle of close friends.    As much as I loved rooting for Leonard and Penny to stay together, I think the show will be better for a longer time if they are apart.

I have had many platonic friendships over the years with males.  My husband’s best friend, my oldest daughter’s godmother, and he have been so close for so long, I cannot imagine them ever going long without talking.  Its pretty neat watching how their friendship has grown to include her husband and myself, and later, our children- all of whom are growing up “together.”  I think that opposite sex friendships can happen, and should happen!

The Big Bang Theory: Season 4 is available now for purchase.

“I have been hired by Warner Bros. WBWord division to promote The Big Bang Theory Season 4 on DVD.”

  • I have mostly male friends. My mother has for years told me I should be careful or they would ruin my relationship with my partner, but she is wrong. I don’t get along with women as well as I do men and I have boundaries. My partner knows that and he is just fine with my male friends. In fact, it makes it easier for us to go hang out with friends. His long time best friend and former room mate was a woman. It was strictly platonic as well.

I think you can easily have just friends that are of the opposite sex.
