>How much time do YOU spend in the car?

>This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of NAVTEQ. All opinions are 100% mine.

I swear, we have had more car picnics lately than not.  Car picnics? Yes.  Eating lunch on the go, in the car.  We’ve had a million and five extra errands of late, in addition to dropping off and picking up at Pre-K, Tball practices, the grocery store, and park time.  We have a lot of birthday parties coming up so that means extra trips to get gifts, etc.  Sometimes I feel like we spend half our time in the car!!

Now, with my oldest finishing PreK next week- I think car time will be increasing instead of decreasing!! The splash pads are opening at the parks nearby, and the town lake will be open for swimming, we’re doing private swim lessons at a friends’ house for 2 weeks, camp, one to two day “staycations” and birthday parties.  The relaxing, lazy days of summer don’t seem to be occuring at the Bargain house this year!!

One thing I do think would make my life easier would be a nice GPS system with www.updateyourmap.com.  Especially when we go to a destination that is out of our current area  my comfort zone, having the GPS to guide me would make things a lot easier.  Especially if there is traffic, or worse, detours.  I live in fear of detours.  Especially if you are someplace like Boston, which is one of our destinations we may hit this summer- there are so many one way streets, having a detour would really be stressful for me. A GPS with me, all updated with the latest information from www.updateyourmap.com, would really be awesome. (Yet, I didn’t think of this until after my birthday and Mother’s Day passed?!)

When I shoot weddings with K.B., she has a GPS built into her car.  Its fantastic.  She’s told me that on several occasions she’s been saved by her GPS.  It seems silly to not have one, in this day and age- a technology that’s fairly affordable (without bells and whistles) and readily available.  Christmas wishlist, you are starting now!
And now, we’re off to get back into the car and run more errands.  Hopefully there’s not traffic or detours this morning.

Can I really only pick just one favorite? 😉

We use the basic sticky labels in our house for things like sippys and utensils. But I’m really liking the stuff designed for clothing & shoes. It’s hard to label that type of thing for daycare!

>How to get coupons to Home Depot

>When you subscribe to the Home Depot Savings Newsletter  you can get all sorts of tips on projects- and emails giving you a head’s up about sales.  Frequently they do offer subscriber-only coupons as well.  It isn’t always often, but hey, a surprise coupon emailed to me once in a while is better than no coupon emailed to me, well, never.

We are always at Home Depot, I swear.  Living in a house built in 1946 with plaster walls and 3 little kids? Yea.  It’s our vacation home.

>Wilton Princess Ariel Products Review & Giveaway!! **CLOSED**

>http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=this0a9-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=B000OV4G5A&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifrSince I took my cake class in April, I’m all gung ho on doing all of my kids’ cakes and cookies, cupcakes, etc. for birthdays, class parties, etc.  I contacted Wilton and asked if they might be interested in my doing a review and giveaway – and to my excitement, they WERE!!  A few days later, a large box showed up from UPS and inside was my little girl’s delight: The Wilton Princess Ariel Cake Pan, Ariel Icing Decorations (2), Ariel Baking Cups, Ariel Icing Colors an Ariel Birthday Candle and Ariel Party Toppers (2).  My girlie and I were squealing.  Busy B. has been hoping and hoping for an Ariel cake for a while and thanks to Wilton, I can make that happen.

We are set to go, and I have until July xxth to get good at making Ariel.  In the spirit of letting you have a good laugh, I will share my first Ariel cake attempt.  (Anyone who has good tips on how to make a mouth with icing gets a bonus entry!! No joke!)
(You can see I needed to do the bikini top still in this shot  but the mouth looks more normal here!)
I have a little neighbor who likes Ariel as well and her birthday is in a few weeks- I’ll be making another practice cake for her!!
I love Wilton.  Its quality.  Its trusted.  Reliable.  They know what they are doing.  (They make all sorts of cool matchy sets of things, which is one of my favoritest things in the world!)
We have used the cake pan (to bake with and then to kind of imprint on the icing) and icing colors so far.  The icing decorations- well, they have been sampled and declared yummy by the little Bargain children, but not actually used on a cake.  Rest assured, we’ve used other Wilton icing decorations in the past,  they rock.  The candle cannot be used until it is really Busy’s 5th birthday but again, we’ve used Wilton candles before, they are quality!!

I love Wilton icing- and like with most icing colors, you have to play with these until you are happy with the color you are seeing in your buttercream.  When we make this cake next, there will be at least double the amount of the teal, as well as the skin tone used.  I also need to get some no-taste red from Wilton to make Ariel have red hair and not playdough red hair.  I think we will make the lavendar in the bikini a few shades darker as well, to make all of the colors pop.  I will say, even though pale, the skin tone icing color really did look like Ariel’s skin tone!!  I do like how the icing gel colors don’t thin icing- they just color it.  The drops wreak havoc on whatever I’m trying to decorate, to be honest.  I’m a full on icing gel color girl now!

Now for the fun part- one of YOU is going to win ALL of the Princess Ariel Items from Wilton (Est. ARV $35) that I reviewed!! One Ariel cake pan, one Ariel birthday candle, two packs Ariel party toppers, two packs Ariel icing decorations, one Ariel icing color set and one package of Ariel baking cups.  An Ariel lover’s dream come true!!

>The Bowtique Review & Giveaway- Clippies, Bows, Headbands..and more…

How do we finish an outfit in the Bargain household?  With accessories of course!! What’s our favorite place to get accessories?  The Bowtique!!  If you have not yet been to the world of the Bowtique, I suggest you do (plus, you’ll need to anyway for the mandatory entry, so head on over.  I can wait a few.)

Jill is a mom of 3 little ones like myself.  She’s also got an amazing talent for creating beautiful hair accessories for little girls!!  Even for baldies like Baby Bargains – although this photo is actually Busy B at 9 months-

But see?  A hair clip.  In almost no hair.  Magic?  Maybe.  Jill won’t divulge her secrets and I’ve given up on knowing….
Anyway,  this is what we were sent for our review:

Cute, no?  Busy is really into pink lately (after 3 years of ORANGE!! ORANGE!) so we chose the pink streamer pony.  *I* loved the bright summer flowers, Busy loves Princess Ariel, and the “Me” clippie was not to be passed up.  Jill will customize that for your little girl.  Busy is wearing hers as I write this, in fact.  She was very upset I didn’t let her sleep in it last night.
Now that I think of it, she’s wearing the streamer pony and the “me” clip in front of it today.  Don’t you love how her outfit matches most of these perfectly?  We didn’t even plan it.
Anyway, WHY do we love Bowtique bows?  Easy.  They are made by a fellow mom and she does them each by hand.  She knows the secret to making bows that not only don’t slip off of fine baby hair, but also how to make them not fray or fall apart.  Baby B wears the green bow now, 4 years after Busy B wore it in the above picture- its like new.  And trust me, folks.  We WEAR our hair accessories in this house.  Busy’s been known to wear 20 clips at once.  She’s got her own style, what can I say?
These are high quality, long lasting bows.  If you think you may want to try them, head over to The Bowtique and see what you like….here’s a code JUST for This Mama readers for 10% off your order good until 8/31/10:  THISMAMA is the code.  10% off. Enter in THISMAMA.  Happy Shopping!
OH! But wait! ONE of you is going to win a $20 gift certificate to the Bowtique!!
Here’s the lowdown:
1. Mandatory Entry (This is for real.  If this is NOT your first entry, your others don’t count :o(.  So make sure you do it.  You will want to anyway.)  Go to http://www.thebowtique.com/ and tell me what is your favorite product on her site?  (I usually have a little notepad and pencil with me when I browse her site because its never just one bow ordered.  Ever.  Don’t tell Mr. Bargains…)
