16gb Wi-Fi iPad with Retina Display Giveaway

ipad giveawayMy husband jokes that my iPad is attached to my hip.  I correct him frequently- it’s attached to my hands.  I couldn’t see it well if it was on my hip.  Seriously!  I do love having it though.  I love love love playing word games, catching up with Facebook friends, checking emails, doing some blog work, and playing games with my kids.  There are seemingly endless ways to use iPads, and I feel like I hear of new things iPads are capable of weekly.

It isn’t just for me for personal use — for those times we have family or friends in the away from us, or in the hospital, iPads can be used for  Face Time to keep in touch.  We can watch videos and play games- or loved ones can play them – to pass the time while  waiting or staying someplace.

All these reasons, plus, iPads are just plain fun.  So I joined in to give one away.  Lucky one of you!

NuGo Bars Review and Giveaway

nugo nutrition barsToday the mail carrier brought me this incredible selection of NuGo Dark Chocolate nutrition bars.  I am already quite familiar with the Chocolate Pretzel variety.  That is my breakfast most work days.  It is easy to throw in my work bag and it is so good, it makes me happy. The combination of the sweet and crunchy filling, the dark decadent chocolate and the amazing sea salt is something I will never get sick of.

NuGo bars are  Gluten FreeNon-Dairy, OU PareveVegan and have 10 Grams of Protein.   My husband has one of the Peanut Butter Cup bars everyday.  Before switching to a plant-based diet, my husband was a huge peanut butter cup fan.  This bar fills that craving without making him compromise his dietary plan.  They are truly delicious and pack a load of flavor into 200 calories.  The NuGo Dark bars are filling and almost make me feel like I am cheating and eating something unhealthy.

You can buy NuGo Bars online or use their Store Locator to find one of many stores in the US and Canada that carry them.  I get mine by the case at my local Whole Foods Market.  NuGo Bars are clearly labeled and NuGo Nutrition, the company that makes REAL dark chocolate coated protein bars for many lifestyles, urges the FDA to create a standard of identity for dark chocolate. Consumers deserve to know what is in their food!  They have an online petition that can be signed to support this issue.

NuGo also likes to give back to the community.  They donate a portion of their sales to The Children’s Alopecia Project which is the only non-profit devoted specifically to all forms of the incurable autoimmune hair loss disease, Alopecia. Their mission is to help any child in need who is living with this life altering disease. Their goal is to build the self-esteem in children so they become stronger teens and more productive adults and become the advocates of tomorrow.

NuGo has offered to giveaway a mixed box of all five certified gluten-free NuGo Dark flavors (a total of 12 bars) to a winner who lives in the continental US.

Belugabloo Online Bookstore Interactive Books and Games for iTunes and Google Play (iPad Mini & Belugabloo Giveaway)

I found a new must-have online bookstore app for families with children up to 12 years. It’s called Belugabloo and we are loving it!  Belugabloo is actually an online bookstore that you download, and then add apps, games and e-books within it.  It’s available on Google Play and iTunes, free to download.  Some content for Belugabloo is free, while others have a minimal charge.  The books, games and apps within the bookstore are really great- beautiful graphics, quality material and content, and engaging for the kids.  It’s also really nice because instead of going into all different apps on my iPad, the kids are going all over Belugabloo and not moving my apps and stuff around- or worse, hiding or deleting them (I’m not the only person this happens to, right?)

belugabloo home page

My 7 year old asks for Belugabloo all the time.  She thinks its so cool to read books on a tablet, and to be able to interact with the books.  She had it at the dentist last week and it was so cute to hear her explain to the hygienist that she was ‘helping mom blog’ and explaining about how Belugabloo works.   She’s very inquisitive and is really hoping she can start getting some of the books in Spanish so she can teach herself (I loved learning languages as a kid too so I guess she gets that from me?)

belugabloo groovy tortoise and the hare

When you open one of the books in Belugabloo, you can choose to “Read by Myself,” “Read to Me.”  Many also have “Read and Play” for an option.  This is great because the kids can all use the app if they are readers or not. I can’t decide if I want to see the words highlighted when  the book is read to the kids or not- sometimes I think that’s a good thing and other times I think it’s distracting and takes away from the story.

There are some religious books you can find in this bookstore- something that my family enjoys- my kids are always asking more and more questions about God and the stories in the bible and this is just one more way they can explore that.

For the older kids, there’s some content from Discovery Channel and some other authors with cool science, history and culture books.  I have tried to peek at almost all of the apps and books available through the Belugabloo bookstore and most if not all have a free “sample” option to try before you buy- something we don’t always see in apps.  I like this feature, because we’ve all had that thing that looks great but doesn’t end up to be what we were wanting it to be…or isn’t quite what we were looking for.

Different levels of play means that your child will be engaged for a much longer period of time.

Apps in Belugabloo range from free to $2.99.  Definitely affordable and lend themselves to being enjoyed for a long time with the interactive features contained within each. My little one loves using the “read to me” feature but is also happy to snuggle up with me or daddy (or her big sister) and have us read to her.  I always want to be sure that no matter how interactive things are, that the kids are having interaction WITH us and not alone,  something I feel we parents in the digital age need to be aware of.

The bookstore is available as a free app on Apple iTunes and Google Play, and features e-books, games and apps, designed for babies and children up to age 12.  Sample features include:

·         Animated story books with built-in play activities

·         Customizable options such as “read to me,” “read by myself” and “games”

·         Books, games and apps that cover subjects like counting, colors, art, music and more

·         Content that is available in a variety of languages, including Spanish and Chinese

Harman Stoves Offer Eco-Friendly Way to Heat Your Home (Giveaway)

This post brought to you by Harman Stoves. All opinions are 100% mine.

We have used a fire-burning woodstove or insert for several years to heat our home in the cold months.  It’s saved us hundreds a year if not more in oil costs.  We’ve been able to burn trees that have fallen from storms on our property, or those of friends, finding a way to have those trees not go to “waste” and giving us a good workout in the meantime, between chopping, splitting, stacking and bringing the wood in.  I have noticed more and more that families are using fireplace inserts or pellet stoves (like the Harman Pellet Stoves) to supplement their heat to use furnaces less.  It also means we’re not using as much heating oil- which reduces our carbon footprint.

I think more and more of us are leaning towards using a popular heating alternative for many reasons- I know in my area, a lot of families are looking to woodburning stoves in one form or another because you can still generate heat even when the power is out- something we’ve had happen more and more frequently with severe storms in the past few years.  We’ve had several storms now where we lost power for anywhere from 5-8 days- others have lost longer- but we were one of the few houses that was “warm” at 64 all day simply from having that fireplace insert going.  With or without the fan blowing, it can still be used for heat.

Harman™ has forged a brand of premium pellet stoves and inserts that are “Built to a standard, not a price.” Even heat, easy maintenance, advanced technology and distinctive features place these stoves in a league of their own.

A stove is freestanding and offers a traditional and charming ambience. Stoves can be conventional and efficient woodburners, pellet or coal fueled. They are available in a variety of sizes and style and are easily added to most rooms. Inserts are installed inside an existing fireplace to provide a more efficient, clean burning fire. They can be wood, pellet, or coal.

We had a hard time deciding between a pellet stove or a wood-burning stove or insert. Ultimately for us, it came down to what we’d incur less cost for- and given the number of trees on our property and friends’ properties, wood won.  The pellet stove is a great alternative and from what I have seen at friends’ homes, a bit less dusty than a wood-burning option.

One BIG piece of news: The federal tax credit on 75 percent efficient biomass heating appliances, which expired on Dec. 31, 2011, was reinstated on Jan. 2, 2013. The bill includes a “tax extender” for Internal Revenue Service Section 25C, which provides a tax credit for, among many other things, qualifying biomass-burning stoves! The extender provides a 10 percent tax credit of up to $300 on a qualifying biomass heating appliance purchased between Jan. 1, 2012 and Dec. 31, 2013!

Pellet Stoves are Awesome

What do you use to heat your family’s home?  Have you considered a Harman stove or similar?

Love LEGO bricks? You’ll LOVE LEGO’s YouTube Channel! ($1000 LEGO Giveaway) #LEGOChannel

One of my favorite childhood pastimes was building with LEGO blocks.  I’m so happy to say that all three of my children seem to have inherited my love of LEGO blocks, and each spends time regularly playing with them.  We’ve had Quatros, Duplos, and “regular” LEGOS, we’ve had sets and we’ve had individual pieces. We’ve got accessories, kitchen items, apparel, and whatever else we can find.

One thing we’ve not had was a way to view the LEGO shows that don’t appear on the TV “on demand” from our cable provider- or to view the LEGO videos that have aired elsewhere or are made for online viewing…until recently.  LEGO has it’s own YouTube channel and we’ve found a new way to watch our favorite toys come to life.

TheLEGO channel is fabulous.  Just about any LEGO-produced video you can find, from product information, TV ads, shows, and behind the scenes stuff- all in one place.  AND, you can create playlists to match interests or your kids’ ages and have them be able to access a list with content that YOU want them to  be able to watch- no surprise videos popping up.  We have all experienced or heard of someone innocently stumbling upon “adult” content or something not in our taste and having playlists means we eliminate that risk.

I will say, I do hope that LEGO expands on what they offer for videos and include some fun DUPLO videos- I know my kids would get a big kick out of seeing their LEGO farm friends on screen, and my little girl would be ecstatic if her princess friends came to life.  My oldest is very into the LEGO Friends line and keeps asking me if there are episodes for Friends like there are for Ninjago.  So LEGO, if you see this…we want more!  Please!

There is a lot of content on web; creating a playlist on the Official LEGO® Channel is a great way to ensure your kids are entertained and watching videos you can feel good about.

Visit the Official LEGO® Channel to build your own playlist to watch with your kids and then reply below for a chance to win one (1) $1,000 gift card to buy your family’s favorite LEGO® products!
