Pediped Grip ‘n’ Go

I’ve loved soft-soled shoes for my kids since my oldest was a teeny little infant.  Pediped is one of my favorite brands for these shoes, both for style and for function.  We’ve had them new, we’ve had them as hand me downs, and they hold up really well.

We recently tried the new Pediped Grip ‘n’ Go shoes in Giselle (Brown) for toddlers- Grip ‘n’ Go™ are made with all the benefits of Originals® but with special G2 technology for active toddlers.  G2 technology includes a specialized soft rubber sole, rounded edges that mimic the natural shape of a child’s foot, heel stability and a soft toe box that allows toes to curl and grip the floor.

My husband hasn’t ever noticed what the kids’ shoes look like.  I mean, yes, he’s noticed them, but I don’t think anything’s really struck him enough to comment on.  When he first saw these shoes on Baby B’s feet, he couldn’t believe the sole of the shoe.  I explained that they were made for new walkers and specially shaped for their little feet and extra grip.  He’s impressed, which says a lot.  (This is the man who thinks you really can just have one pair of shoes and one pair of boots).

My photo of the sole wasn’t as clear as this one, so here’s the stock photo.  Plus you can see the different parts of the sole they mention.  I really do love these shoes.  She’s been wearing them everywhere, even outside, and on our playset in the yard, and they have great traction.   It kind of looked to me before seeing these in person that the sole might be really thick- but its not.

I love these shoes, like the Pediped Originals, because they are made for my little one’s feet.  I’m glad Pediped came out with an in between line, for the toddler crowd, before they fit the Flex.  I like that these are designed to encourage healthy foot growth and development, and are made to fit a range of sizes- with kids’ feet growing so rapidly having the sizing generous means they will be able to wear them for a good amount of time.   Baby B just outgrew her 12-18 month originals at 19 months- and my kids are known for having big feet!!  These new shoes will fit her for several more months, I’m sure!!

Pediped shoes cost a bit more than most of the shoes you find at big box stores- but in my opinion, they are worth every cent.  Not only are you spending money to have shoes that encourage healthy foot growth and development, but you are also purchasing shoes that WILL last through at least 2 little ones.  I’ve never bought a pair of shoes at a box store that’s lasted very long nor held up well while being worn, sadly.  I would rather spend a bit more at the outset and have them last longer.  (Plus there are always sales and coupons to be found!).  You can buy Pediped shoes, including the new Grip ‘n’ Go, at www.pediped.com (and also find a store locator on the site!).

I’ve got my eye on the new Adventure line for summer for my older 2 kids- I love the style and design and the closed toe of the shoe (my kids are like their Mama- they stub their toes a lot!!).

What are YOUR favorite Pedipeds?  What are your favorite kid shoes? Toddler? Baby?

Would you like to lose weight and get healthy on Nutrisystem too? Visit

Well, here we are on week 6.  This post is hours later than I’d hoped for but hey, life got in the way.  So did the UCONN/Syracuse game (UCONN! UCONN! UCONN!!!!).

I had ups and downs this week.  Downs, emotionally, and ups, relating to the scale.  I don’t weigh myself daily (omg.  I’d never get off the scale.  Can you imagine?  I’d be standing on the scale blogging and sharing just how much my laptop weighs!!) but I do weigh in on Monday mornings for a reality check and again Friday mornings (and that’s too often…1x/week is the right amount).
Downs for me always mean sweets.  Lots of them.  This does not exactly equal success with Nutrisystem.

HOWEVER.

I’m ON Nutrisystem.  I’m  Nutrisystem Blogger.  I’m REPRESENTING, y’all!!  So yep, I fell off the wagon a little bit.  But you know what?  I also got right back on.  And when I did fall off, I only fell off a little bit.  Pre-Nutrisystem, I’d have done a lot more damage and been far, far worse.  My falling off the wagon included a cadbury creme egg.  Not 6 of them.

This afternoon, a much anticipated box showed up in my mailbox.  What was it?  My first bear.  A little red beanie baby style bear named Pound with the number 10 embroidered on his back.  I EARNED him.  My dedication and hard work and effort earned me that little guy, and I stuck him up on the shelf in the kitchen to watch over me, and to remind me, that hey, he’s probably lonely, and might want to have some friends to hang out with…like a bear with a 20 on his back…and a 30…and more.

I did fall off the wagon.  But unlike before, when I just stayed off, I brushed myself off and climbed right back on.  I even grabbed a healthy snack when I did, to keep my belly full and resist temptation.  Its nice to know my wagon was right where I left it.

So Monday…I weighed in and I was UP 2.5 pounds.  I wasn’t even “bad” over the weekend.  We’d gone out to dinner and I was really good about my choices and portions.  Bonk.  Off the wagon I went.  But I got back on.  I was better each day, all week.  (I’m trying hard to find something to do with the ‘downs’ in my life- suggestions welcome!! instead of eating not good for me things).

This morning?

DOWN 0.5 lbs.  6 weeks, 16.3 lbs lost.

I’m happy with that.  I am FEELING great about this program, about relearning how to eat- especially now, in March, which, by the way, is Nutrition Month!!  (What better way to celebrate THAT than by learning how to be healthy and eat right????)

Most importantly, my clothes are getting bigger.  My family is supporting me.  I have more energy.  I feel more awake and like I can focus better.  I’m not QUITE exercising yet (does lifting the phone to call Emily count as exercise?  If so, I am exercising…) but I’m moving a LOT more- and moving with more ease.

I’m going to stop now, because I’m getting all teary eyed.  I should really be the Mushy Mama who Loves Her Bargains.  I’m just feeling really grateful to have this chance to be healthy and MODEL good nutrition for my family, and for my health and for our future, and for the chance to share it all with each of you.

If you got THIS far, well, bless your sappy heart.  You are awesome. I think you are awesome anyway, but for reading all of this?  Fantabulous you!!

Maybe next week I’ll try the infamous “Shred.”  Or maybe I should start a little slower and do some Wii Fit stuff.  Then the kids can do it with me. One thing is for sure, tomorrow is a new day.  Tomorrow is a new “week” for me on Nutrisystem.  No falling off the wagon this week.  Upward (um, downward, scale) and onward!

Want to see more of how Nutrisystem is working for others just like me and you?

Celebrate Nutrition Month with Dinosaur Train (Giveaway)

>IT’S NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH! DINOSAUR TRAIN CELEBRATES WITH NUTRITIOUS ACTIVITIES AND A DINOSAUR TRAIN WORLD TOUR DVD GIVEAWAY!

March is National Nutrition Month®, a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the American Dietetic Association. The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. This year’s National Nutrition Month theme, “Eat right with Color,” encourages everyone to remember to include a colorful variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and dairy on their plates every day.
A healthy diet is important to us all, just as it was to Dinosaurs many years ago. With the month of March focusing on nutrition, it’s the perfect time to look at some great ideas and resources provided by The American Dietetic Association to eat a healthy diet! And, we invite you to to teach your child how to prepare a vegetarian (herbivore) picnic filled with great food and fun by visiting Dinosaur Train.
To help parents, the American Dietetic Association provides many resources available at www.eatright.org/nnm.  They even have a downloadable PDF  listing 25 healthy snacks for kids, including these five great ideas:
1. Peel a banana and dip it in yogurt. Roll in crushed cereal and freeze.

2. Spread celery sticks with peanut butter or low-fat cream cheese. Top with raisins. Enjoy your “ants on a log.”

3. Stuff a whole-grain pita pocket with ricotta cheese and Granny Smith apple slices. Add a dash of cinnamon.

4. Mix together ready-to-eat cereal, dried fruit and nuts in a sandwich bag for an on-the-go snack.

5. Smear a scoop of frozen yogurt on two graham crackers and add sliced banana to make a yummy

sandwich.

Next, Buddy can help you and your child prepare a vegetarian (herbivore) picnic. The Have A Brachiosaurus Picnic activity helps young children to learn what foods fit into an herbivore’s diet (fruits and vegetables); reminds children about the importance of hand washing before eating; and also creates an opportunity to discuss why all animals need to eliminate waste from their bodies (a.k.a. “poop”).
The downloadable PDF file provides the ingredients to prepare Brachiosaurus Picnic, with fun food items on the menu, including:
o Brachiosaurus Super Salad: The kids will have fun tearing up green leafy veggies into bite-size pieces and mixing ranch dressing with green coloring to make a tasty topping.

o Sauropod Sandwich: With a plastic knife, cut pieces of whole wheat bread in the shape of a favorite dinosaur and spread with cheese spread or peanut butter.

o Herbivore Herb and Spinach Spread: Mix frozen spinach, dried onion soup mix, sour cream, celery sticks and crackers

o Green Juice – fill a child’s plastic cup with apple juice and add green food color to make a green beverage fit for an herbivore.
And as we all know, digestion is a very important part of keeping healthy for both humans…and dinosaurs back in the day! Watch the video clip of the song “Every Dinosaur Poops” and talk about why every animal needs to go, and what would happen if the animal didn’t poop out the parts of the food its body didn’t need.

(I know a sweet little boy named Will who is going to be OVER THE MOON for these picnics- I am publicly promising his mama we’ll do dino picnics soon!!)

Get on board the Dinosaur Train with Buddy, a Tyrannosaurus R ex, and his adoptive family of Pteranodons as they embark on a roaring, exploring world tour adventure to discover a variety of dinosaurs inhabiting the globe as they journey to Asia, Europe and Africa.
