Blissful Bites Vegan Cookbook Review and Giveaway

Blissful Bite -Vegan Meals That Nourish Mind, Body and Planet was written by Christy Morgan AKA The Blissful Chef. I have been following and chatting with Christy on Twitter for quite some time now. She is a wonderful, caring, compassionate woman. Check our her site for great ideas and recipes. Christy wrote a truly beautiful cookbook that has tasty plant-based recipes for vegan, vegetarians and meat-eaters as well.   Seriously-  look at that cover, doesn’t it make you want to make the soba noodle sushi with apricot-ginger dipping sauce?   Her dipping sauces are amazing and the flavors are authentic. I tried the asian rice paper rolls with almond bliss dipping sauce.  I made extra sauce and used it on rice and veggies for lunch.  My mouth is watering just thinking about it. [click to continue…]

OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover Powder

As a mom of three little kids and a husband who frequently has messy projects and chores at work and home, I’m all too familiar with laundry stain trials and tribulations.  Even if these weren’t enough to contend with , I cloth diaper, which can often times involve stains themselves.

How do I contend with stains?  I OxiClean them.  OxiClean is almost always an additive in my wash cycles.  With 3 little kids and my husband’s work, I can’t always spot stains and I’m confident when I toss a bit of OxiClean into the cycle that any surprise stains will be gone before I ever know they are there.  (Not just because of this post, either!!  My love affair with OxiClean started one day years ago when I was home sick from work and Billy Mays was doing an infomercial on it…yes, yes I did order a set then!) I have a fancy new soaking tub that fits into our utility sink next to my washer SO much better than the 5 gallon bucket I was using, which I’m loving, but the OxiClean is something I don’t stray far from- and ALWAYS go back to.  I’ve tried other methods of stain removal and just haven’t been as happy with the results.  [click to continue…]

TruKid Natural Skincare (Giveaway)

TruKid is a company that makes safe, natural, non toxic skincare products for kids. They also work well.  As a mom, I like knowing that when I put this brand on my kids, or let them use it on themselves, it’s a worry free deal for me.   It may not be the least expensive product but to be honest, my kids have all broken out in rashes and or hives at one point or another from mainstream skincare products, so if I have to spend a little bit more and rest assured their skin won’t have a reaction, that’s worth it to me.  Plus buying remedies for reactions adds up VERY quickly!!)  We’ve used TruKid before and will continue to use it for the years to come.   They sent us a few of their products to try out- all of which we adore.

Helping Hand Wash: Aside from smelling great, and being easy to use for even my 2 year old, I love having this dispenser in my bathroom. I love the fun design, albeit simple, and the cues for non readers to know this is to use on your hands withe orange hand outline on it.  Works great, and I like knowing that there are no harmful chemicals as ingredients when my kids wash their hands, especially with the little one potty training and washing hands 30 times a day it seems!

The kids like the fun design (they noticed the green on the pump immediately- which means that they are less resistant to washing.  Whatever makes that part of life be less of a battle, sign me up.  They like the smell too! [click to continue…]

Fairy Tales Hair Care helps prevent lice- naturally

When I first heard about Fairy Tales Hair Care, a natural hair care line made for kids that uses natural ingredients to repel and remove lice, I knew I had to try it.  This year for the first time I have two of my kids in the elementary school in town.  This means double the risk for head lice exposure.

Created in 1999, Fairy Tales Hair Care is the worldwide leader in lice prevention!  Rosemary Repel products are infused with organic oils of rosemary, citronella, tea tree, lavender, anise, cinnamon, peppermint and geranium to create a barrier of protection on the hair to keep styles in and lice out.  Vitamins A, E, jojoba, aloe and panthenol are added to make hair silky soft, manageable and protected from head lice and other insects.  Perfect for everyday use.  SLS and paraben free, too.

Directions:  Shampoo and Crème Condition every few days, remember, lice like clean hair, not dirty!  Use the Rosemary Repel Leave-in Conditioning Spray EACH morning before school, camp or daycare.  Spray the back of the neck, behind ears and tops of shoulders.  Then, use the Spray & Shield just like a finishing hair spray and put the final “seal” on the hair shaft – creating a perfect barrier of protection. Keeps hair in place all day long.

I HAD lice as a child, and I remember, not fondly, the process of washing with nasty smelling shampoo, the combing, combing, combing process, and my mom doing I don’t know what to my beloved stuffed animals and bedding.  I felt dirty and gross, even though it wasn’t my fault.

The Fairy Tales products do smell more earthly than other children’s hair care products, but its a pleasant smell.  One thing I immediately noticed when I opened the bottles to smell it was that it isn’t GIRLIE- which as much as I love girlie scents, I do have a 4 year old son who would like to NOT smell like a fruit whatever when he gets out of the bath or shower.  He in particular is overjoyed at the Fairy Tales line because the packaging isn’t girlie and the scent is more neutral.  [click to continue…]

Brightbin: The New Generation of Lunchboxes (Giveaway)

Be friendly to the earth with a reusable, BPA free Brightbin lunchbox and keep your little ones happy at lunchtime!  If your kid doesn’t want their foods to touch (like me- I am the one who doesn’t want food to touch!) or simply prefers things to be in their own place, Brightbin offers a great solution to keep all of the lunch parts and pieces in one place, and one of my favorite parts is that it tucks into just about any standard sized lunchbox with room for a drink!

We have many, many reusable containers in our home- different sizes, shapes, colors, purposes- and while they are wonderful and get used regularly, they also haven’t been to school with a first grader who maybe gets a little bit distracted like her mama and might throw them out by accident.  I was glad to try the Brightbin out- it has all of the components and functions of our containers we have, along with being BPA, phalate free, etc, but there is a big difference: the Brightbin is one piece.  One unit.  She can’t really toss this one out by accident unless she’s having a particularly spacy day (as my dad used to say “Having a Brett day” haha).  One side has a large, square shaped compartment for something larger- like an entree or a sandwich- and the other side, which obviously opens separately, has some different sized compartments for the rest of the lunch items.  The compartment sizes are compatible, in my opinion, with serving size recommendations.  [click to continue…]

BJ’s supports local farmers with Farm to Club Program

I already love  being a member at BJ’s for their good pricing on warehouse items, their gas station at some clubs, and because they take coupons, but the fact that they are looking to support local farmers as well just makes me even happier.   I was quite happy to visit my local BJ’s and grab some locally grown produce and check out the selection- which isn’t huge, at least not here in CT, but full of local seasonal crops- but any steps to support farmers are important, in my mind.

Our store had squash, zucchini, peppers and corn grown locally- and you can see exactly what town your produce was from before you even purchase it, so you KNOW that its local.  I am excited to see where this goes and really hope that BJ’s continues with this program!

With consumers growing more conscious of providing healthful food options for their families, the food buying team at BJ’s Wholesale Club made a concerted effort to increase number of organic product offerings.

It was important to BJ’s buyers that our Members understand that they don’t have to spend a lot of money or go to specialty supermarkets to get the fresh, quality organic products that their families deserve. [click to continue…]

LUNA Bars pack a Yummy Protein Punch! #CleverLUNA #spon

Thank you to LUNA Protein for providing me a LUNA Protein sample pack to review. The opinions I’ve expressed here are solely my own and represent my honest viewpoint.

LUNA Protein bars from Clif bars are made just for women- with our needs in mind, and our taste buds too.  The flavors and taste will tempt your children- but they are for us.  Sometimes, it’s ok not to share.  A bonus?  They are now all gluten-free.  They are natural, in part organic, and quite honestly taste a lot more like a candy bar than a protein bar!!  Chocolate and flavors mixed together like cookie dough (yes, that’s right, I said cookie dough!!), peanut butter, mint chocolate chip or cherry almond- so much chocolatey scrumptiousness in every bite!!     Any good for you product that includes “suspended in soft nougat” deserves a fair shot, right? Chocolate and nougat in under 200 calories, friends.

LUNA Protein is the first high protein bar for women that provides satiation with natural and organic ingredients. In under 200 calories, LUNA Protein offers 12 grams of soy and whey protein and 3 grams of fiber to satisfy hunger. It contains no artificial sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup or trans fats, and no ingredients sourced from genetically modified organisms.

We just spent 3 days with no power, and lost everything in our fridge and freezer.  My diet program foods that were in the freezer are gone, wasted, ruined, along with almost everything else in our fridge and freezer.  This didn’t leave me with much for healthier options while we had no power, and temptation was everywhere around me.  I was so busy being excited about my LUNA Protein bars saving me from eating kid snacks that I forgot to take pictures of my bars.  *Blushing* [click to continue…]
