Happy (Almost) Pi Day! Let’s Celebrate with…Pie! (Giveaway) #MarieCallenders

My son and I had a pie lunch date this week.  This is kind of a BIG DEAL.  Big sister was at school and little sister went down for an early nap because she wasn’t feeling well.  I’d planned on making myself one of Marie Callender’s Chicken Pot Pies for lunch because it was a cold, rainy, sleety and dreary day and I wanted some comfort food.  My son’s never been interested in pot pie before, but this day, he couldn’t stop asking me questions about it.  I asked if he wanted to try a bit, and after looking at me surprised (that I thought to ask or that I finally did ask, I’m not so sure) he took a bite. Another bite.  After he’d gobbled up half the pie I told him I was going to make a second one and WE were going to have a Pie Date!   Pi Day is the mathematical holiday but remember, in January comes Pie Day (and yes, we did celebrate that too. We like our pie).

pie date for pi day

Our lunch was delightful.  My little guy has a pretty good sense of humor but he’s always surrounded by two sisters who don’t like to let anyone get a word in edgewise (some say they get that from me, to which I plead the 5th…), so when it’s just him and me, I have a lot of fun.  We talked all about his day at school and I started explaining to him about Pi Day coming soon and how I think we should have another pie date to celebrate.  After accepting that Pi Day does not actually include presents, he asked lots of questions about Pi.  His favorite subject was math so hearing about a holiday to celebrate math made him pretty intrigued.

pies for pi day

So we had our pre-Pi Day date, and this week we’ll celebrate the actual Pi Day, and then in a few weeks, we’ll celebrate Easter with my in laws…and guess what we’ll be having for dessert?  Well, aside from the normal Easter-ish type of candies…we’ll be having pie!  My daughter saw the containers from our pie date in the recycle bin after she got home from school and wanted some Key Lime Pie.  She LOVES key lime pie.  We decided that would be a really fun way to end our Easter dinner!  It’s a busy day and not everyone has time to bake from scratch- Marie Callender’s pies can save a lot of time and energy so you can sit back and enjoy the moments with your loved ones.

Marie Callender’s has a pie for every occasion.  Or just about.  I think with pie you can kind of have some leeway on occasions to eat it.  Like if the day happens to end in Y, you can probably assume it’s ok to just have a little.  Or a lot.  I mean, you could really have pie for lunch and dinner and pie for dessert.  I would probably recommend you mix that up a bit and not eat exclusively pie for a day, though.

Be sure to get your  Marie Callender’s printable coupon good for  $1.50 coupon off any pie!  Don’t forget to enter the codes for Child Hunger Ends Here on specially marked packages either in my sidebar or below:

Friday is Family Movie Night #PopSecretMovieNight

kids beanbag #popsecretmovienight

Friday is Family Move Night in my house.  We have dinner, everyone gets in their “jamas” and we snuggle in for viewing time.  All 5 of us.  No phones, no newspaper, no tablets, no magazines…it’s family time.  My son has a humongous bean bag in his room that the kids like to snuggle together on to watch movies- so he and my oldest usually head up to grab that to bring downstairs.  The kids love this tradition, even we’ve only been doing it a few months- and they like it just so.  The littlest one has to get on the bean bag first, then my son, then my oldest.  They like me to “throw” them onto the beanbag and wiggle them around so they are just “so.”

#popsecretmovienight kernelsOnce we’re all in comfy clothes and jamas, we start the movie, or at least get it in hand to put into the machine to play.  (Yes, we do still use machines. We’re archaic over here!) Which is when there is a chorus of protests “MOM!  MOM! Where’s the popcorn?!”  because, apparently, movie night just isn’t going to be movie night without popcorn.  They don’t know it but I don’t like to watch previews so I kind of wait to start popping until those start so I can skip them.  Shhhh.  It’s a mom secret.

#popsecretmovienight cups

We can’t just have popcorn, of course.  Someone *coughcoughMEcoughcough* decided to add a few chocolate candies to popcorn one night and movie popcorn was created.  We must have MOVIE popcorn for family movie night.  no exceptions.  Sure, the kids like buttery popcorn, but they LOVE popcorn with chocolate in it.  I mean, who wouldn’t, right?  My son just wants butter on his.  He likes the sweet, too but he LOVES buttery popcorn. So I guess one of the secrets to our movie nights really is (Pop Secret) Popcorn!

PopSecretLogo

Sometimes the hubby and I have a non “G” movie night after we put the kidlets to bed- it’s a nice way to keep the snuggle time going and really refreshing to just chill out together and relax for a few hours.  Of course, we’ve been known to make an extra batch of movie popcorn.  Just don’t tell the kids.  It’s just really good.  Friday= family movie night. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

PolkaDot What Leggings for Girls

polkadot what capris

Both my girls have their own very clear sense of what they want to wear and what goes together.  I can buy them outfits and matchy stuff, but unless I specify, they take what I buy and make it something totally their own.  I don’t mind- actually, I enjoy it. I never had a fashion “sense” and my girls just LOVE finding things to wear together.  More often than not, each of my girls comes down dressed in all kinds of colors, patterns, styles and fabrics.  My little one is particularly fond of tulle skirts, tshirts and fun leggings….with rain boots.  She likes to look fancy and be comfortable all at once.  All of the outfit sets I got for her get worn, just never together.  It’s totally fine with me.  As you can see- she rocks the look!  This outfit below is her own creation.  She took off a purple and white polka dot skirt and bright green socks only moments before.  The funny part is the pinks and purples in her shirt that I so carefully chose with it’s own skirt….they look fabulous with the PolkaDot What leggings!  These leggings are so much fun for the girls to wear, and people comment on them everywhere we go.

polkadot what leggings size 4How much fun is it to be able to choose different colors and/or patterns for your leggings?  With the PolkaDot What line, each length of leggings has it’s own set of design choices-and there are 3 lengths to choose from.  Different colors and styles reflect different personalities- and sometimes, you just feel like being mismatched.  You pick a length, a choice from the left leg column, and a choice from the right leg column.  Voila.  Funky leggings.

polkadot what leggings

What I like about these leggings, aside from the fun and funky aspect, is that they are a nice quality cotton fabric, blended with spandex for a great fit and feel that kids will want to wear again and again.  The inks are water based and not harmful to kids’ skin.  I’m totally in love with these leggings and would like to order more, more and more pairs.

polkadot what girls

When PolkaDot What first asked if I’d like to check out their leggings I laughed to myself thinking that the creator, Zani, surely has met girls exactly like my own- because these leggings are probably the best wardrobe piece they own now.  Zani started PolkaDot What because she wanted to make a difference in children’s lives- and with this brand she’s able to bring happiness, creativity and confidence to kids.

Here are some discount codes just for my readers to get some leggings- US residents get free shipping when they buy 2 pairs or more AND a PolkaDot What mini bag!

Carhartt Jeans for Kids

boys carhartt jeans frontCarhartt is a brand that my husband has worn for years….it’s a quality brand that makes clothes that will last and hold up to abuse.  I think the original idea was for folks who work “hard” in their clothing, as my husband does, but I’m not sure anyone is more abusive to clothes than young kids.  It’s not their fault, they are just living live exuberantly and exploring the world….on piece of clothing at a time.

I don’t know who it was at Carhartt who thought that “Hey! Maybe we should make some kids’ stuff that stands up to abuse” but whoever you are, I thank you. As you can see above, my son wears his clothes.  Well.  Beyond well.  This was about half an hour after putting them on.  He went out on a mud hunt.  Yes, hunting for mud.  You know, because living in Connecticut, we don’t have enough mud?  Regardless, he abuses these jeans.  But they hold up.  That’s what I want in kids’ jeans.  They are tough enough to stand up to what a 5 year old can dish out. Here are  the Boys’ Washed Denim 5 pocket pants. I love them and my son loves them. So glad there are Carhartt jeans for kids now.

boys carhartt jeansOf course, I think carpenter jeans on little guys might be the cutest thing ever, so I love these jeans for how they look.  He likes how they fit, and I like knowing we aren’t going to have blown out knees anytime soon.  He also likes looking just like daddy!  These jeans fit really well- my son’s got shorter legs and a stockier build and I think they fit quite nicely.  As long as he’s not complaining of discomfort, I’m happy.

Our washed denim 5-pocket pant is more than an everyday basic. Made of 10.5-ounce, 100% cotton denim it features a relaxed seat and thigh, adjustable waist and triple-stitched main seams for durability. Available in sizes 4-7 and 8-16.

  • 10.5-ounce, 100% cotton denim

  • Adjustable waist

  • Triple-stitched seams

My little one has a 2 requirements for many of her wardrobe pieces: hearts and pockets.  These are big with the 3 year old crowd.  Carhartt’s Girls’ Washed Demin 5 pocket jean gives her pockets AND hearts- on the pockets and at the waist.  My girl is a dresses and tights girl and I think even she’s surprised at how much she wants to wear these jeans.  They must be comfortable.  But how adorable is this button?

Carhartt jeans for girls

carhartt jeans for girls backYou can see her jeans are a little big.  They work great with some shoes on- and since the waistbands are adjustable on the jeans, I can cinch them in snug enough to keep those jeans up on her little tush.  I love adjustable waist pants for kids- I think it doubles the life of the pants for sizing!  It holds true in my house at least.

Every girl needs a jean as versatile and durable as our washed 5-pocket denim jean. Constructed of long-wearing 10-ounce, 100% cotton denim, the five-pocket jean features heart embroidery on the front pocket, a heart-shaped Carhartt logo snap, and triple-stitched seams for extra strength. Offered in sizes 4-5-6-6X and 7-8-10-12-14.

  • 10-ounce, 100% cotton denim

Carhartt jeans for kids and other kid items from Carhartt can be found at Carhartt.com and from Carhartt retailers. I know we’ll be looking to add more Carhartt items to the kids’ closets this spring when we’re looking for new pieces!
Thanks to Carhartt for sending jeans for the kids.  Opinions are my own.

Dove Body Wash

I am a huge fan of Dove products. I was happy to learn I was invited to be an ambassador for the new Dove Body Wash with Nutrium Moisture- having  natural ingredients in my body products always makes me happy. We’ve used Dove products for years in my family, although I’d not used much of the body washes until now.  Since starting to use the Body Wash regularly, I’ve noticed my skin feels less dry and looks smoother. I’m really happy with the results. I’ve also started using the body wash as a bubble bath when I soak in the tub.  It’s delightful- enough bubbles to feel like I’m in a bubble bath and enough moisture to feel like I’m being pampered.

dove body wash as bubble bathBath time is MY time. Until we redid our bath last year, I’d no idea what I’d been missing.  I adore my tub time, and I take one almost nightly.  It’s my time to refresh and recharge.  It calms me, let’s me chill, gives me a moment to just be still and be in the moment.  I love having products that pamper my skin AND rinse off easily- I hate feeling like I’m covered in product residue. I’m loving the Dove Body Wash as my bubble bath! I’m clean, I’m refreshed, and feeling like I’ve got more to offer others when I have a few minutes of ”
Why does this product make my skin feel so fabulous? I’m convinced it’s the Nutrium Moisture with 100% natural moisturizers that skin can absorb that replenishes lipids lost during cleansing to keep skin smooth and nourished.  I am loving how my skin feels softer and especially my ‘trouble spots” like my elbows and ankles are not so rough and scratchy.

dove body wash as shaving cream
Though the new Dove Body Washes are mild, they still provide an enjoyable shower experience with rich lather that you don’t typically see in mild body washes. I’ve been using the wash in place of my shaving cream too- it’s giving me great results, it’s less containers in the bathroom, and I’m happy with the results. I trust the Dove brand already so why not just use it? Saves me money and frees up some much- needed space. The Glycinate ingredient, typically found in high-end body washes, not only reduces damage to proteins during cleansing, but also creates a soap-comparable lather that rinses cleanly.

Visit the Dove Facebook Page to stay up to date on all things Dove- and who knows, you may find a coupon or hot deal on there no one else knows about!

I am so happy we got to try the new Dove body washes. I have already purchased more and will be needing more sooner than later!  Great product, great quality, great price.  Definitely worth a try. Check out my Dove Pinterest Board!

What are your favorite ways to relax and pamper? Do you use a body wash in the tub or shower?

Get the action shots you want with Fast Camera app from iTunes

I love the convenience of a camera on my phone. I won’t lie.  I love it so much that I made the (very hard for me) decision to leave my DSLR and lenses home when we went to Disney in January so that I could have less weight to carry in my bag and also to have less worry about something happening.  I don’t have the pictures I may have had with my DSLR but I’m happy with the decision.  My only problem is that there are many photos that probably could have been great had the camera responded quicker- it’s hard to get good action shots with a phone camera. I was excited to learn about the Fast Camera app for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad devices-  a way to get a succession of shots with a quick touch and the abililty to set the resolution of the pics? Yes, please. I’d hoped to have the code for the download ($1.99 in iTunes) before the kids’ last day of basketball but that didn’t work out so I haven’t had a cool place to get some action shots yet.  I will, though- and I’m looking forward to having this app for softball and t-ball games coming up in the spring.

It’s pretty neat- you can set how many photos you want the app to take at once- 10, 100, even up to 800 – its up to you.  Then you save what you like and delete the rest.  Your memory on your device isn’t used up until you decide how many photos you want to save.   Easy, peasy. In the age of the smartphone, we need more apps like this!  I’m fairly certain I won’t ever do 800 pics at once but you never know.  Never say never.

You can also set the camera to go off on a delay so you can get yourself into the photos as well.  There are several timer options to make it work for you.  FOr those of us who don’t have a fancy camera or simply don’t want to lug one around wherever we go, this app opens up a lot of new photography doors!

The app works with rear and front facing camera options- which kind of makes the options endless for shooting.  I think the kids will have a ton of fun with this with their friends doing silly pictures of themselves!

I like this app for what it can do and the simplicity of use. For the times when my hands are full and I don’t want or can’t bring my big camera, having this app opens up a lot of new opportunities to get some of the shots I missed time after time at Disney.  I can’t wait to play around with it even more!

The question is, what will you take photos of first? I think this Fast Camera app is a fabulous one and sells for only $1.99 on iTunes!

Westin Kids Club Activities at the Westin Copley Place

Over President’s Day weekend, the kids and I headed up to Boston for a few days of fun.  The Westin Copley Place invited us to come up and check out their Kids Club, which was having it’s first vacation event.  There’s nothing else to say except that we had a blast!  I was particularly excited to visit the Westin because they have a lot of green and sustainable ideas that they put into practice. Environmentally friendly bath products, vouchers given for days you refuse maid service, CFL and LED lightbulbs throughout the hotel, salt water pool, low flow shower heads and more.  They are a pet friendly hotel for dogs up to 40lbs.

We had no idea when we were on the way to the hotel that we’d be on the top floor.  We had views of most of the city!  The rooms are beautiful- and the beds make you never, ever want to leave. Ever.  If  I was the stealing type I’d have snuck the sheets and comforter into our luggage.  And the mattress.  It was most definitely a Heavenly Bed as promised.  Even with my 3 year old kicking me in the neck both nights, I slept better than I have in years.

westin copley rooms

Shortly after our check in for the Kids Club Winter Vacation event, housekeeping knocked on the door and we got some cookies and milk– Westin style! The kids were amazed at this spread- I was too!  Huge warm cookies, fresh milk in real milk bottles (on ice), and an assortment of fresh fruit.  Sparkling and spring water for the adults was also included with a nice welcome note from the hotel management.  Top notch.  Also, complimentary for the Kids Club Winter Vacation program guests.  My kids haven’t ever had room service before so this was a huge treat in many, many ways.

cookies and milk westin

Shortly after the cookies were gobbled, we headed down to paint some ceramics on another floor, the Kids Club vacation activity for the day.  I’d assumed there would be a few pieces to choose from, but there were several, and the kids were allowed to paint more than one if they wanted!  Lots of fun, and the planning that went into this was great- normally paint your own pottery has to be kiln fired but the staff was able to find some glaze that made the pieces look fired, even though they weren’t. I need to find out if I can use my mug that my son painted for me for my coffee- I’m not sure if the glaze is food grade or not.  Regardless, the kids had a blast.  The snack spread in the room that was available at all of the Kids Club Vacation events was great for both adults and kids- cold drinks, fruit, and snacks.  Excellent touches to make things easier for us.

pottery painting at westin kids club

Each day of the week held a different Kids Club activity during the week.  There were family movie nights, family game nights, crafts like picture frame making, pottery painting, cookie decorating, tie dye-ing t shirts, and more.  Each activity was set up with the snack station so that parents and kids didn’t have to look far for cold water, juice, soda or a light snack.  There were a lot of details that were very well thought out.  Having all of these activities planned throughout the week was really great for families who didn’t want to be on the go, go go all day every day.  We actually enjoyed things so much we never left the building while we were there- we did go explore the attached mall across the Skywalk when there was blizzard-like conditions on our second morning but rushed back to enjoy the cookie decorating and tour of the kitchen with the Chefs.  That was my kids’ favorite part of the trip- it was really fun to see where all of the foods and supplies are kept and made to feed so many people!

turner fisheries dinner

The food was fantastic everywhere we ate while at the Westin.  Anyplace who serves cookies like this must have good food, yes?  We got to eat at Turner Fisheries and oh.my.goodness. Delightful experience. I wasn’t sure how well received I’d be with the three kids in tow but we were welcomed with open arms, seated in the solarium part of the restaurant so we had a view of the street- which was lots of fun for the kids to people watch.  The kids were excited they got colored pencils for coloring on their placemats instead of the normal crayons (maybe we don’t get out much?) so that was big news.  The food was amazing and it was nice to be at a restaurant that believes in sustainable fishing practices– while none of us had seafood (my oldest wanted lobster and they didn’t have any right then, and my dinner came with crab meat on top of the filet but I don’t eat things from the water…) its always nice to know of places who are like-minded to the idea that we have to be responsible in how we interact with our world.

If you are looking for a different spin on a hotel stay, definitely check out the Westin Kids Club Vacation Packages.  You’ll save a lot and get a lot of extras with your rates- at the Westin Copley Place, the rate included breakfast for kids (with adult), milk & cookies at check-in, parking ($47/day) and all of the activities and crafts.  There’s a nice and not super deep heated pool that kids can enjoy from 5am to 10pm that’ll keep the kids active and let them get some energy out!

For everyday with the Westin Kids Club, younger guests get coloring books and bath toys, and enjoy the story line, a bedtime story service over the phone. Westin Kids Club® is the only hotel children’s program that offers special services and amenities for infants.

Other items available on request at no additional charge:

  • Bottle Warmers

  • Diapers and Wipes

  • Strollers

  • The Heavenly Crib

  • Bed rails

I can’t wait to see the next vacation week plans that the Westin Kids Club makes- and I hope we get to be part of it! Thank you so much for having us!

GoodNites Bed Mats Help Boost Kids’ Confidence

There’s a phase for many kids between being potty trained and being dry at night.  For some kids, it’s a short time, for others, a really long time.  The older kids get, the less they want to have to wear absorbent pants of any kind- and I can’t say I blame them.  My littlest one has bedwetting accidents at night- and I’d be fine with her in pullups for a while but she wants to be a “big kid” and be in underwear at night. I can either let her sleep in pullups and have a battle of wills every.single.night or I can find a solution that works for both of us.  I don’t know about you but this isn’t a battle I want to choose- so I’ve found a solution that offers a compromise.  GoodNites Bed Mats let HER be a “big kid” and me not have a dirty load of bedding to wash several mornings per week. The Bed Mats are sized to fit under where your child sleeps- a generous size but not so big it covers the whole mattress.  There are 4 large sticky tabs that peel off and give a really good grip on your mattress or sheet to keep the bed nice and dry.  They offer a nice solution for sleepovers, travel, and more.  It’s easy to quickly get one of these mats on, and they don’t make a noticeable sound when you move on top of them so your child won’t have to worry that others may “hear” and “know” that they have a mat underneath.  I didn’t do a lot of sleepovers as a kid because I had so many accidents and I would hate for my kid or others to miss out just for that reason.  This way, everyone wins.

goodnites bed mats boost confidence

You can see the Bed Mats outline by her little hand (and yes, we do sleep in fashionable accessories in our house!) under her sheet.

Helpful for parents- less laundry.  My little one just wants to be a big kid, and does not want to sleep in pullups or any kind of absorant pant at night.  The Bed Mats allow her to sleep in undies and me to not have to wash her bed sheets every day of the week. With the Bed Mats, it isn’t a battle of wills.  She can do her undies, I can save my laundry sanity.  When we went to Boston last week, I just tucked a few Bed Mats in my bag for nights, and didn’t have to worry about her having an accident in a hotel bed.  I love these mats. There’s no laundry, they are easy to use, easy to clean up, and with a coupon, they don’t cost a ton.  Very convenient, very easy- and a very good compromise.

Helpful for kids-  They have the confidence of the mat just in case, but aren’t stuck wearing asborbant pants or having a rubber sheet.  It’s not fun to be “older” and still having accidents- this I know, because *I* was still having accidents well into 4th grade. My little one is 100% fine with the bed mat on her sheet, as long as she doesn’t have to wear “baby” diapers to bed.  She doesn’t have accidents daily, and if this saves from a huge battle at bedtime each night, I’m all for it.

GoodNites Bed Mats have been so popular that over 50,000 American Shoppers voted and chose these at the 2013 Product of the Year in the Children’s Products Category! That’s saying a lot! I can see why- easy to use, discreet for kids, and a great way for kids to have a little more confidence at bedtime.  You can read more about the award in this Parade article that was released recently and also download a $1.00 coupon for GoodNites.

Online Reputation Management for Dummies

By no means is this breaking news, but I am one of the Dummies that the entire line of ______ for Dummies books was created for.  If you can screw it up, I can screw it up better.  Or worse.  I need basics. I was asked to review Online Reputation Management for Dummies- something I felt I needed to do, for 2 reasons.  First, I’m a blogger, and that means I have an online reputation. Second, most of YOU are online (how else would you be seeing this?) which means YOU have an online reputation, yourself.  So we have to be sure to keep that reputation intact.

Online Reputation Management for Dummies book review

I (wrongly) assumed not all parts of this book would be  totally relevant to me as a blogger because I don’t sell physical products.  But most of it was relevant to me because I am out there in the land of social media- in many ways- and I want my name and reputation to be the best it can be.  You can’t ever stop learning, so I readily agreed to do a review of this book to see what I could learn that was new to me.

Researching Your SEO Keywords is Chapter 6 of this book.  It’s also my favorite.  One of my personal goals this year is to start to figure out the world of SEO and apply it to my blog.  It’s probably going to end up being a goal for the next few years, but I’m ok with that.  I appreciate being able to find tips and I like having a physical book next to me as I work that I can refer to and make notes, highlight, bookmark, etc.

The internet is a big place.  A wonderful place. It can also be a scary place.  And a theworldisverysmallplace.  Make a mistake out loud, it can be forgotten, or explained.  Make a mistake online, and it’s there, kind of permanently for anyone to see. We have to be careful to keep our online reputation intact- especially as the digital age only becomes more so, those old Facebook status updates from a wild party night 12 years ago suddenly may not seem so funny…nor harmless.  Learning about online reputation management is key for just about anyone who uses the internet.

The suggestions in this book for a management plan are really easy to follow and simple.  You know, good for us Dummies.  If you are a blogger, or have a business, or just really want to educate yourself about your online reputation, I definitely recommend this book.  It’s simple and clear and quite helpful.

More important than ever–how to manage your online reputation

In today’s social world, managing your online reputation is more critical than ever, whether it’s your company brand or yourself as a brand, and one thing is certain: everyone needs a plan. This essential book shows you how to set up a system that works every day, helps forward your brand’s online goals, and is able to deal with negative chatter. Covering everyday listening and messaging as well as reputation management for special events or crises, this book walks you through step-by-step instructions and tips that will help you build and maintain a positive online presence.

  • Shows you how to create a solid, productive online reputation management system
  • Helps you achieve your brand’s goals and be ready to deal with negative chatter or crises
  • Explains how to set up an online reputation management and response team
  • Covers how to identify and incorporate both everyday and crisis SEO keywords
  • Explores reputation creation through listening, messages, images, video, and other media
  • Helps you handle crises with social media, bloggers, and other influencers, and respond immediately

Online Reputation Management For Dummies gives you the tools you need to maintain the online reputation you want.

Protect Your Kids’ Eyes with Real Kids Shades

I think sometimes we forget as adults that kids’ eyes need protection from the sun just as much as ours do.  For me, I’d quite easily forget, but I have a husband who has eyes that are very photosensitive and it’s made me much more aware about his comfort- and that of our children.  I’ve been trying to encourage the kids to wear their sunglasses more and more- explaining that it’s a safety measure, and a precaution.  The cool factor and how adorable they look in them in secondary.

Lots of bad things can potentially happen to our eyes simply from exposure to UV rays.  We have to do what we can to protect our body parts so that they last as long as possible.  There’s not exactly a replacement guarantee on body parts, you know?

real kids shades

I like Real Kids Shades for many reasons- they offer sunglass protection for kids that’s versatile, durable, 100% protection from UVA and UVB rays, removable wrap around straps, styles kids will want to wear, and for the price.  That’s a lot…but there you go.   I have found over the years that products like this that truly stand up to what kids can throw at them- at affordable prices- are often designed by parents who saw the need and found a way to meet it.  Real Kids Shades was begun by parents who couldn’t find quality sunglasses for their kids to protect their eyes in an affordable price range.  There are 3 size ranges for RKS- 0-3, 3-7 and 7-12.  Each pair of glasses you get comes with a neoprene strap with velcro closure.  These glasses are meant to be worn comfortably under a hat or helmet, so that kids aren’t left uncomfortable and wanting to remove one or the other.

I was pleasantly surprised to see how many truly trendy options there were on the Real Kids Shades site.  Like this Fabulous pair that my daughter wears- she adores them because they look just like the ones people wear on tv and in magazines.  I adore them because I know they’ll hold up to her 7 1/2 year old shenanigans, they will last, and because I know they’ll keep her beautiful baby blues safe.  (As an aside, these are also great sunglasses to wear up on her head to push her hair back- the larger size means they hold her hair back well).  She’s not one to wear the strap that came with the glasses but I’ll keep that around just in case. It says something that she gets upset if we start to leave the house and she can’t find her shades.  Kids who love their sunglasses are far more likely to WEAR their sunglasses!

There are many great options for boys including the Glide shades- since my little guy is all about running around and digging, he doesn’t ever want to stop to adjust things, put them back on, etc.  Having these glasses will be perfect for him for tball, basketball camp and just running around outside- plus he’ll still look “cool” (which is why his hair is spiked, he’s decided he wants to look cool all the time now).
