My thoughts on the BioTrue Challenge #BioTrueChallenge

We have been using the BioTrue for a full month (and change) now.  I’m still loving it- it’s working very well with my contacts and my eyes.  I took the BioTrue Challenge and loved it!  I’m finding that I’m not getting the annoying super dry eyed feeling until quite late in the day, if at all, anymore.  Even when I do feel like my eyes are a bit dry, it’s not like it was pre-challenge.  I’m so happy that I decided to try this!

I think my favorite thing about the BioTrue is how it mimics my own tears.  It just makes me feel like I’m using a product that’s working with my eyes almost like a “team” and not just adding a product onto my eyes.  Having my eyes be less dry means I’m not rushing to take my contacts out by 5 pm anymore, and I have to say, it’s pretty nice being able to see the television, computer screen, newspaper, or my husband clearly in the evening (I often don’t bother with my glasses after my contacts are out so things are fuzzy all night).  BioTrue has changed my love-hate relationship with my contacts.

Yoplait Trix Yogurt Offers Healthy Snack Options for Kids

We try very hard to offer healthy snack options for our children.  I’ve struggled with weight my whole life, and I’m trying to instill healthy habits from an early age in the hopes that my children don’t follow this particular set of footprints of mine.  One of the things I’m thrilled that my children love to have for snack is yogurt– all three of them love it.  Their current favorite is Yoplait Trix Yogurt.  They love the Trix yogurt for the fun Trix bunny, plus the “fun” flavors offered.  I love it because yogurt is a great source of Vitamind D, calcium and protein, and I know that yogurt is a snack that will fill them up and keep them going.  They also love that they can have yogurt with “cotton candy” for a flavor, because they have had cotton candy exactly twice in their lives, and would love to have it daily.

Another thing I like as a mom with the Trix yogurt is that it’s budget friendly.  Often on sale, and frequently with coupons out, you can have a little fun with the kids’ yogurt without breaking the bank.  I’m a buy it in bulk kind of mom- when I can, I purchase larger containers (my kids would do a very happy dance if I brought home a 32 oz container of Trix, I can promise that!!)- but especially when we are on the go, or when school starts again, it’s nice to have some more portable options around.

We have been known to push a popsicle stick into the foil cover of Trix yogurts and stick them in the freezer.  They are sweet enough to be a treat for the kids, and really, its hard not to love any snack that comes on a stick!  Mostly, the kids just love to have it.  They’ll eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack if we let them.

We try to encourage the kids to have a variety of healthy foods each day- for snacks and meals.  We also try to get creative with yogurt- aside from making yogurt popsicles, we’ve also put frozen blueberries into it (the yogurt freezes around the berries, making them almost frozen little treats) and my little ones really love dunking pieces of graham cracker and strawberries  into their yogurt as a dip.  There are so many ways we can include healthy snack options for our kids – and it always amazes me how one little thing changed can make an old snack seem new again.  Setting out tiny cups of yogurt “dip” with a platter of fruits and a few graham crackers or animal crackers makes for a huge hit with the kids- its the same fruit and yogurt we’re eating on so many other days, but switch it up and it’s like new!  The kids are happy they have a fun snack that tastes great, and I’m happy because they are eating healthy foods.

Trix yogurt has no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial flavors or sweeteners.  I hate buying products with high fructose corn syrup and my kids know if there is HFCS in something, mommy’s probably not going to think about buying it.  Trix is a treat in my house and my kids get very excited when I bring it home for them.

Trix yogurt also comes with Box Tops for Education on the packaging- which shows me that this is a company that cares about our children and our future.  Our school here in town collects Box Tops, and I’ve got just about everyone I know collecting them along with us.  It’s quite simple, really- you just cut the little box tops out and tuck them into a baggie or envelope.  Drop them off at a local school or at a neighbor’s house who has kids.  It’s such a simple way to help our schools!

“Trix are for kids” but unwanted additives definitely are not. That’s why Yoplait® Trix® Yogurt comes in silly, swirly flavors kids love, without high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors, or sweeteners. It’s still the same bright, fun, colorful snack, only better. You’ll love that they love it!

What are your families’ favorite healthy snacks?  Do you have any creative ideas to share?

Nickelodeon’s Winx Club Deluxe Dolls & Accessories

This post brought to you by Winx Club Deluxe. All opinions are 100% mine.

Nickelodeon has a new toy doll line- Winx Club Deluxe, available at Walmart and  My oldest recently turned 7 and has become obsessed with fairies- of all shapes, sizes, and colors.  I've been hearing so much about Nickelodeon's Winx Club Deluxe with the new DVD coming out in a few weeks , and the dolls, accessories and clothing, that I had to investigate further.

Winx Club Deluxe is Nick's first animated series targeted for girls.  The show tells the stories of 6 friends- Stella, Flora, Bloom, Musa, Tecna and Aisha, and follows their journeys and adventures while attending fairy school at Alfia College.  I predict that we will be seeing a lot of Winx Club Halloween costumes this fall!

If you aren't yet familiar with this new toy doll line, check out the page on Walmart. com for Winx Club Deluxe- there are even videos so you can see the dolls in action.  These fairies are fun, they are hip, and they are rockin.'  They are also not geared toward the "baby sister" age, as my daughter refers to her 3 year old sister- they are for older girls, with themes and activities meant for the 6-11 crowd.  The fairies are dressed in bright, vibrant colors, with just a touch of sass (in a good way) and so much FUN!   You'll want to bookmark this site, too, because there are going to be even more products coming soon (apparel and accessories- perhaps in time for back to school?) and some free coloring sheets for your Winx Club fan.

Check out your local Walmart store for these fun new Winx Club Deluxe dolls from Nickelodeon!

Liberty Sport Polarized “Biker” Sunglasses (Giveaway)

Liberty Sport Polarized SunglassesMy husband has to wear polarized sunglasses whenever he’s outdoors.  His eyes are very sensitive to the light and with polarized sunglasses, he is able to be in the sun for longer periods of time.  Liberty Sport sent us their Biker Polarized Sunglasses for Mr. Bargains to try recently.  These glasses are great- super lightweight, they come in a protective case, and are a huge help to him with his comfort level outdoors.  Mr. Bargains really likes the lenses on these glasses- unlike many, these have a lens that kind of wraps the eye, so his peripheral vision isn’t affected.

These are nice, quality sunglasses.  Well made, built to last, and comfortable to wear.  They look good and hold up (we have three kids.  Things happen.  The glasses held up).  At $99 they are definitely in the affordable range, especially given the quality of materials.  I love that the case also includes a lens cloth and a cord to keep your sunglasses close at hand when on the go, especially when doing outdoor activities!

  • 8-base wrap around lens curvature delivers excellent peripheral field of vision.
  • Raised eyerim back lip provides additional lens retention.
  • Head hugging, flexible temple design fits comfortably under most helmet designs.
  • Plano frame comes with Liberty Sport Ultimate Polarizedpolycarbonate premium performance sun lenses:
    • Hard Coat Premium Scratch Coating.
    • 100% UVA & UVB Protection.
  • Comes with semi-rigid case & adjustable strap

Chorepay helps teach kids financial responsibility (Nordstrom Gift Card Giveaway)

So here’s something you probably don’t know about me.  When I met my husband, I had credit card debt.  Lots and lots of it.  You know when credit card companies go to college campuses and give a tshirt or a frisbee for signing up for the card?  I think I signed up for all of them.  Sadly, I can’t even say I had a ton of fun incurring my debt.  It paid for things like tuition, books, gas, food, clothing…not even one spring break trip.  It took me YEARS to get out of that mess. Years.  I was already working on it when I met my husband, but it took I think 3 years after meeting him to pay it off in full.  It isn’t that my parents didn’t teach us the value of a dollar- they did- or they tried anyway.  I just had no concept at all of what I was doing, and hey, that card has polka dots! How cute would that be in my wallet next to my confetti credit card?  (In retrospect, the confetti should have been from cutting the cards up, but I digress).  I will note that we DO live debt free (except for our mortgage) and we pay off our credit carD each month.  I would like to pass on my more recent financial habits than my previous ones to my children.  I have no doubt in my mind that my wonderfully patient husband agrees wholeheartedly.

Thanks to sites like Chorepay, parents like me who would like to teach their children about the value of a dollar have tools to help us.  Sure, my kids may learn things the hard way like I did…but maybe given the right tools and ways to practice from a young age, the kids will be informed, educated and understand that even if they have the money for something, doesn’t mean that they need to buy it- or maybe they’ll realize if they save a little bit longer, they’ll get an nicer/better quality item.  Choreplay lets you decide with percentages what children’s earnings can go to- spending, saving and donating.

Chorepay is fun for kids- they can create their own avatar, and they can create a wishlist for what they want (which is great for holiday time for gifts…but also gives them goals to save for).  They can create their wishlist from the “mall” and see what an item will cost them and  how much they have to save in order to pay for it.  This alone can go a very long way in teaching kids the value of a dollar- they may save for something for 6 months and realize once they have all that money saved, that hey! I’m not sure I want to spend all that money on this one thing, what if I find something else I’d like more?  The life lessons and skills learned in saving for a goal are so important.  They give our kids the tools they need to be able to function in the “real world.

One thing that I really like about Chorepay is how much you can customize it to your own needs- yours, your childrens’ and your family needs.  You don’t even have to do monetary rewards– my children are younger, so offering them $1 for doing xyz isn’t always going to mean a lot.  Taking them for an ice cream cone, or to the movies on a date with mom or dad, alone?  That’s some serious incentive around here.  The customization features of this program make it a great fit for kids who need and thrive on routines and schedules.  Parents even have the ability to comment on chores completed.  Positive reinforcement can go a really long way with kids!

Chorepay is working toward making  a community and not just a checklist for chores. They want it to be interactive, so that users can be able to  ask questions and give/receive  feedback to/from other parents, and not just the folks from Chorepay.

I’m finding that with the technology and gadgets in our daily lives, apps and programs like Choreplay are becoming front runners in organization of family matters.   I know that I will turn to tools like Choreplay more and more as my kids get older and their wants and needs become more complex and more expensive.  I find Choreplay to be a great match for how we value and reward chores in our family.

What ways do you teach your children about finances?

The stairs, NYC, Soleil Moon Frye and Target. #feedthefamily (recipes inside)

target feed the family with soleil moon frye

That is my beautiful niece, with me in the yellow top, Soleil Moon Frye, and all 3 of my kidlets in the front.

A few weeks ago, I was invited to attend Target’s Feed the Family event in New York City.Target showcased all different ways to feed your family- all with Target products- from the recipes, to ingredients, to cooking utensils, accessories, and even what to eat it with!  It was a really fun event and I have to tell you, I am a die-hard Target shopper, and apparently hadn’t ever realized just how much Target has to offer to Feed our Families.  From elaborate breakfast spreads to fantastic dessert ideas…and everything in between (and including wine, in some states…not CT!), Target really does offer just about everything you need.

Early in the morning the day of our trip, the dog woke up.  Trying to be quiet and sneak down the stairs so I didn’t wake the kids, I went down the stairs backwards…and missed the last 2 steps.  I landed on my right upper arm onto an outer corner of the wall…and was unable to move my arm with out a LOT of pain for a very long time…but I wasn’t about to miss a chance to hang out at the Target studios in NYC nor was I going to miss meeting Soleil Moon Frye…so I took some Alleve, tucked extras in my bag, and pushed onward through the pain.

We will be getting some of these containers and snack bags. So cute, so much fun, and no waste!

I got so many great ideas from attending this event- I kind of despise cooking sometimes because I feel like it’s the same thing over and over- especially lunches!  I have some FUN new ideas that will keep the kids happy and that they’ll want to eat this year!

I attended this event as a guest of Target.  I wasn’t required to write a post or share but I had so much fun I wanted to!  Plus, I met Punky Brewster!

Captain McFinn and Friends Anti-Bullying Series

Captain McFinn Anti Bullying Series for kids

I thought that dealing with bullying was something I’d be maybe starting to worry about when my oldest child was maybe in grade 7 or 8.  As it turned out, I was wrong.  Bullying can and does exist at almost every grade in school- even with the little kindergarten children.  My  then-kindergarten student was bullied on the bus by a third grader- only for a short time, but it left a very lasting impression on me, as well as my daughter.

My eyes were opened very quickly that I needed to educate my children not only on how to be a kind friend, but also how to deal with being bullied.  I was very unprepared and, quite honestly, floundered.  I remember tearfully telling my husband after the kids had gone to bed that night how I wanted to go over “that girl’s” house and give her what-for.  Which might make me feel great for 22 seconds, but would help absolutely nothing.  (Let me tell you, that Mama Bear instinct kicks in REALLY fast when someone’s bullying your child!  Whoa!)

I guess I’d forgotten that I was in third grade when Lisa F——- started punching me in the stomach when our class was lined up to go someplace.  The first few times, I quietly sucked it up and said nothing.  After a few times, I guess she wasn’t happy with my lack of response, and kicked it up a notch.  She hit me very hard a few times, and I was beside myself.  I didn’t know what to do, so I sat at my desk and cried.  My teacher didn’t see any of this, and didn’t notice I was not there until the class arrived at the library.  She’d rushed back to check on me and scolded me for not staying with the class.  To be honest, I cannot remember anything more of the conversation and I’m sure she dealt with things, it isn’t like she was a mean or unfair teacher.  My mom’s way to deal with things was to force playdates with Lisa and me every Saturday for a few months.  Oh, did I hate them.   Perhaps they did do something, because I do not remember Lisa ever punching me again.  But I hated having those playdates, and resented my mom for making me go.  I can tell you with mom hindsight that she was doing what she thought was best.

I was recently asked if I’d check out the new series, Captain McFinn and Friends, created by Phyllis Cafaro,  and inspired by her own grandchildren.  Ms. Cafaro works hard to teach children important life lessons to help initiate positive changes in children through stories and music.  Captain McFinn and Friends is a series that works to teach children to be buddies and not bullies- the stories teach children to

These books are great- they are enjoyable to read, have engaging characters and are not super preachy in tone.  The kids read them or ask me to read them because they want to hear the stories again, and that speaks volumes to me.  Books like this should be in libraries and classrooms so that lines of dialogue are open and maybe we can get this bullying epidemic under control.  The drawings are fun, vibrant and the characters are quite well drawn.  The kids and I love the fish friends!

I’m very anxious to see what comes with the S.H.A.R.K. program coming this fall- I’ve already asked to see if they can send some sets to my school here in town.

New to hit shelves beginning in June – Captain McFinn and Friends Rock!: The day Captain McFinn and his Undersea Friends start a band, they learn about more than just making great music. When Bella feels left out, it takes some extra Finn Power to get everybody ready for the big contest. Will hard work and friendship win the prize, or will Tox and the Barracuda Brothers ruin the fun?

The Legend of Captain McFinn and Friends: In this story we are introduced to the friendly black tip shark, Captain McFinn, who was once one of the biggest bullies on Sandy Dusty Reef.  He meets the Undersea Friends who teach him, through kindness, that being a friend is always better than being a bully.  Captain McFinn transforms from bully to leader and protector of the Sandy Dusty Reef.

Captain McFinn and Friends Meet Coral Rose: Captain McFinn and Friends go on an adventure of discovery when they stumble upon a new paradise where they meet their newest friend, Princess Coral Rose – The Princess Between the Tides.

Captain McFinn and Friends “Finn-tastic” Activity and Sticker Book: This fun-filled activity book, which ties into the series, includes connect-the-dots, coloring pages, stickers, mazes, matching pictures, word searches and more!
Captain McFinn and Friends Mobile App and eBook will be available as a free download this fall for all iOS and Android platforms, Barnes and Noble NOOK and Amazon Kindle devices.

Captain McFinn and Friends ‘Come Along With The Friend-Ship Band’: This sing-a-long music CD is packed with 14 upbeat and catchy songs that young children, teachers and friends can dance and sing-a-long with and find out what all the fish are tapping their fins to! The songs were produced and written by award winning songwriter, Terry Sampson, whose other work includes Angelina Ballerina and Winnie The Pooh.

The entire Captain McFinn and Friends series is available online at, and also at the major online retailers  The retail prices for the hard cover books are $17.99 and the soft cover books are priced at $9.99.  The music CD retail price is $9.99 and the activity book costs $5.99

Beginning in the fall, Captain McFinn will introduce S.H.A.R.K. Patrol, an anti-bullying educational program for teachers to educate K-3 students how to recognize bullying, and protect themselves and others against it.  S.H.A.R.K. (Students Help Achieve Respect and Kindness) Patrol was developed by accredited educators to prevent bullying by reinforcing positive behavior.  The program offers educators tools for themselves, students and parents, such as storybooks, complete lesson plans, puppets, sing-a-long CD, posters, stickers and more.  Items will be sold as a complete kit or separately; perfect for any district or classroom budget.

Additionally, a portion of the proceeds from Captain McFinn and Friends product sales will benefit the Captain McFinn Foundation, which supports a variety of children’s charities.

Change your little squirmer with Huggies Little Movers Slip-On Diapers!

Do you have a little squirmer at home?  I know that I do and this can pose a REAL problem when it comes to diaper changes.  My little guy is 11 months old and in prime “squirm” mode. He flips, wiggles, kicks and bucks. Anything to avoid a diaper change! I frequently tell my husband that changing the babies diaper is like wrestling a greasy pig!

THANK GOODNESS for Huggies  Little Movers Slip-On Diapers.  Not only can I get my baby changed in under one minute, but there is no fuss!  He is off and squirming in no time flat.  I just slip or rip off the old one and slip on the new one.  Voila!  I can change him lying down or standing up.  These diapers are just as absorbant and comfortable as regular little movers, they just slip on.

Here are some of my tips for making life with your little squirmer a little bit easier this summer!

1.  Take it easy on yourself!  Dress that little cutie in a Huggies Little Movers Slip on Diaper and an adorable appliqued t shirt and call it a day.  Don’t mess with rompers and buttons.  Everyone stays cool and comfortable, and diaper changes are made super easy!

2.  Do you have a squirmer underfoot in the kitchen?  I like to keep all my kitchen cabinets babyproofed with a lock, but I make sure to keep one special drawer or cabinet open for exploring.  I keep this special area stocked with fun and colorful baby friendly toys and items.  My little one LOVES to explore in his special drawer while I am busy cooking in the kitchen!

3.  Having a difficult time with little squirmers in the store?  Stick him/her in a sling!  Babies LOVE being close to their mamma and will be totally content playing with with your car keys while you finish your shopping.

4.  Is your little squirmer bored and hot this summer?  Put baby in a high chair and place a few ice cubes on the tray.  Let them go to town!  It’s a great tactile experience and the perfect way to cool off!

Participate in Huggies Easy On Easy Off Facebook Challenge and receive a coupon!

Huggies® Slip-On® Diapers were made with squirmy babies in mind, providing stretchy sides to let you quickly slip on the diaper for a close, comfy fit and trusted leakage protection. Plus, they have easy open tabs so they are easy to take off, making changing easy for you and your squirmy little one.

Snipe Hunt Family Game

snipes in the grass Snipe Hunt indoor outdooor Hide and Seek Game      My family enjoys spending time outdoors and we are always looking for fun games to play together.  Along came Snipe Hunt an indoor/outdoor hide and seek game.   The game is simple and based on a traditional game often played while camping.  In this version one person or the teams hide the two Snipes, Biela and Smartin.  Once hidden the other team has to find the Snipe and return it  to the nest.  The really cool feature of the Snipes is that once they are removed from their nest and internal clock starts, at 2.5 minutes they start chirping and at 5 minutes their eyes begin to blink.  This game can be played in the daylight and is really fun in the dark while using flashlights to look for the Snipes.  My 7 year old LOVES this game.  I can not count how many times I have heard, “Can we play Snipe?”  We will take Snipe Hunt on our annual vacation with my parents and brother’s family.  It will be a great way to get the four kids outside and running around.

Snipe Hunt’s packaging is really cute.  It looks like a wooden crate, is stamped with Live Animals and has air holes for them.  My son was so excited when this game arrived.  snipe hunt family game indoor outdoor family funThe packaging tells the story behind the legendary campfire animals. For more information on the game, including rules, visit Snipe Hunt retails for $24.99 and can be purchased at Bass Pro Shops, Cabelas, Books a Million stores and specialty retailers nationwide. Snipe Hun can also be found at online retailers.  Each Snipe Hunt game comes with 2 Snipes, a Snipe nest and instructions.   This game would be great to give as a gift or even save for a rainy day to play inside.
