Yoga Bitch Book Review

YOGA BITCH

One Woman’s Quest to Conquer Skepticism, Cynicism, and Cigarettes on the Path to Enlightenment

By SUZANNE MORRISON

I came across this book one day when I was looking around the internet.  I knew right away that it was a book I wanted to read.  Yoga is a part of my daily life even if it is just doing a forward bend or downward facing dog before I go to work.  YOGA BITCH is not just for those that practice yoga, anyone who reads it will be entertained.  This book is insightful, funny and talks about yoga egos,  commercialism and love.

YOGA BITCH is a yoga and travel based memoir.  It is written in the style of a diary and follows the author through her two months yoga teacher training program in Bali.  She finds herself unwilling to conform to their ritual of  urine therapy until she gets “Bali belly” and has no access to antibiotics and her tongue starts to turn black.  Her humor carries her through the decision to cure herself by doing something she thought she would never do. It’s 11:11. Make a Wish. Get a cool watch. Help Support Jamie’s Run #giveaway

For as long as I can remember, when I see a clock that reads 11:11, I make a wish.  Now, to be honest, I have no idea where or when I got this from.  Camp Nokomis?  Maybe.  My siblings?  Family? Friends? Perhaps.  But likely, from many sources.  Whenever it has popped up in conversation, anyone around nods and smiles.  Have YOU made a wish at 11:11?  Magical time!!  I recently was introduced to Wishing Watch– adorable, affordable watches in bright, vibrant colors that are pre-set to 11:11 so that you remember to make your wish each day.  The cost?  $11.11.  I know- fun idea, right?
Well, the folks at Wishing Watch want to do a little something to give back.  So until December 31, 2011, they will give $3 from EACH Wishing Watch purchased to my favorite charity, Jamie’s Run (which was started by dear friends of mine).  I loved the idea of these watches before, and love them even more now that I know they want to give back.  Will you help me support Jamie’s Run?  Please, please share this link with your family and friends and be SURE to tell them to enter JAMIESRUN in the code box so the folks at Wishing Watch know where to send the money to.

Remember, awesome watches.  Reminder to make a wish at the most magical time of day.  Fun colors.  Affordable.  Supports Jamie’s Run.  Just enter JAMIESRUN at checkout and Wishing Watches will donate $3 to them FOR EVERY WATCH PURCHASED!

I love my Wishing Watch.  It’s comfortable to wear, super easy to get on and off, and hard to press the buttons to change the time (I have had so many watches that seem to have hyper-sensitive buttons and they make me crazy).

7 readers will each win a Wishing Watch! [click to continue…]

LEGO KidsFest review- A great time for all ages!

Last night we headed over to LEGO KidsFest in Hartford.  I took my two boys, the 7 year old and the 40 year old.  We all had a really great time.  There was so much to do and the staff at all the areas were super nice and helpful.  With over 3 acres of LEGO family fun there was plenty of room for everyone to create, build and enjoy.

We started at the LEGO Model Museum.  There we many favorites such as SpongeBob, a huge Lightening McQueen, Batman, Buzz Lightyear, Indiana Jones,  and several interactive models such as a lion and shark that you can crawl in and this Pharaoh.

After that my son jumped right into a bridge building challenge.

They encouraged the kids to work as a team and all participants

received a mini figure set.   There were other challenges through out the event such as a relay and building a figure.  There were smiles everywhere from all the kids and adults. [click to continue…]

Mogo Charms for Girls (or anyone) #Giveaway #Rafflecopter

My older daughter  is obsessed with charm bracelets.  “Mom, I want a Pandora bracelet.  I’ll take good care of it.”  Yea, I don’t think so, darlin.  You’re 6. I waited 37 years to get a Pandora-style bracelet, and you are not old enough!!  Thanks to my friend Lisa, though, I discovered something that I think is going to not only satisfy my daughter’s desire to have a charm bracelet, like mine, but make her even happier.  Mogo Charms for girls combine the fun of the charm bracelet and changeability of the beads with colors, sparkles, and FUN.  The Mogo Charms are made for kids- durable strapscharm bands in vibrant colors, and the magnetic charms come in cute little tins, packaged in sets of three in themes.  A bonus?  The charm bands and charm sets are affordably priced, so they make a really great gift for any occasion- for your daughter, granddaughter, niece, her friends…and you can keep adding to her collection!!

The Mogo charm bands can be more than bracelets– you can combine two for a headband or three for a necklace.  That’s a lot of fun accessorizing for your little fashionista- and she can create her own look with ease.  They’re cute, they’re fun, they’re functional…and totally customizable. Ultimate Easy Bake Oven #Giveaway #Rafflecopter

Last week, I opened a gift I’d secretly wished for many years ago, but never told my parents- nor Santa.  The little kids were napping and my oldest was at school, and there was a big white box on my doorstep holding the new Ultimate Easy Bake Oven inside!!  I used to get so excited when I’d go to a friend’s house and they had the Easy Bake.  I tried to act all cool and nonchalant, but inside I was all “wheeeeeeeeeeeeee I get to bake and I’m a kid” at their houses.  So.much.fun.

Times have changed for the Easy Bake- the new design is far more sleek, more hip, more modern than before, and there’s no more cooking with a light bulb.  They even make whoopie pie mix for the Easy Bake.  Little tiny whoopie pies.  Teeny tiny cookies, cupcakes, and cakes.  The whole thing just screams fun for everyone.  Who wants to cook dinner like a grownup when there’s an Easy Bake oven around? NOT ME! (Oh wait. I don’t usually want to cook dinner anyway…)

The Ultimate Easy Bake gets to a toasty 375 degrees inside. Outside, its cool to the touch.  That’s not to say you shouldn’t be exercising caution, because I firmly believe you always should when cooking…but its a nice feature that gives a littel peace of mind.  You should always have your child using this under adult supervision.  The recommended age for this toy is 8+ so if and when my oldest uses this, it will be with my very close supervision and likely only me using the oven itself (and not just because I don’t want to share my new toy…) [click to continue…]

VTech InnoTab Review

Tablet computers seem to be all the rage this holiday season, for adults and kids alike. I know that there are a lot of options out there and it can be difficult to choose. The InnoTab from VTech is new on this market this year and is a great device. I was able to test out this tablet style computer for kids age 4-9 and was really pleased with the features and options. Some of the features include:

The InnoTab is equipped with a 5″ color touchscreen and an outer durable plastic case. I like that this computer can take some rough and tumble handling from kids. The screen is suitably large and the buttons are simple. There is a home button that brings you to the main page and volume control buttons. Upon turning on the device (you will need to add 4 AA batteries, they are not included), the InnoTab walks you through the sign in process. It is easy to get started with the preloaded apps and games. Simply touch the app and play. [click to continue…]

Disney’s Prep and Landing on DVD #giveaway 2 winners

An instant family favorite was Disney’s Prep and Landing a few years ago.  I loved it instantly.  Its cute, its funny, its a new twist on holiday shows, and- it’s TINSEL!   This is one of the first Christmas specials where so many techy gadgets (even if they are shaped as gingerbread men) are used- such a fun twist on the ordinary.

The DVD for Prep and Landing released 11/22/11 and is available for purchase at stores everywhere.  The story itself is great but the extras on this DVD are super cute- Tiny’s Big Adventure is absolutely adorable…and it’s hard not to love anything that Betty White is in.  [click to continue…]

AEROBIE Skylighter flying disc review

Aerobie® Skylighter™
Lighted Disc

Back in October we had a freak snowstorm that left most of Connecticut without power for as many as 10 days.  Parents were stuck trying to find ways to entertain children that were unexpectedly out of school for a week.  We played board games, took walks and waited in line for gas.  Then a package arrived with the Aerobie Skylighter lighted disc.  My husband and I have always enjoyed throwing a disc around and my little guy has quite an arm.  So, we waited until the sun went down and suited up with our coats, boots and mittens.  Out in the snow covered yard we started to toss around this lighted disc.  It was so much fun to play in the dark and actually be able to see the disc.  The next time we play I will get some glow stick necklaces to wear so we can see each other in the yard.   This disc is easy to throw and the rubber rim makes it easy for all ages to catch.

SantasHideout.com: Safe, easy & magical gifting

Conde Nast has introduced parents to new way to organize Christmas.  No more sticky notes here, there and everywhere to say who was told what wish list item, and no more risk of kids seeing what you might be buying- Santa’s Hideout lets kids enter their wish list, parents can edit, and family and friends can see exactly what it is on the wish list- and update so that no duplicates are purchased.  Did I mention that it is FREE to sign up and use this site?

It took me all of a minute to get my account started.  A few more minutes to get the kids’ names and dates of birth entered (don’t forget to check off the box to get a free birthday e-card from Santa!!) and things were set to go.  One feature I really like is the price limitation for the wish list- I was able to put a maximum dollar amount on the wish list.  My 4 year old would love an iPad, and that’s simply not going to happen.  My 6 year old has her heart “set” on at least 6 of the American Girl Historical Characters (also not going to happen).  [click to continue…]
