FREE Rio Coloring with Blu App & Rio BluRay Giveaway

I can’t WAIT to see Rio.  I’m still unsure how it is that we missed seeing it in the theater, but we did, and happily, I’ll have it here at the house quite soon. I’m always up for fun apps that encourage creativity, and there is a FREE coloring app “Rio: Coloring with Blu” available now on iTunes and Android!   FREE apps that encourage creativity make me a very happy mama, especially when they are available both on iTunes and Android, since I have an iPod Touch and an Android based phone.

To celebrate the release of RIO on Blu-ray and DVD August 2nd, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment invites you to color in your favorite characters from the film! Mix and match different characters and backgrounds, then get ready to color! Draw and fill colors with your fingers. Save your finished paintings to your device’s photo gallery and print them right from within the application. You can also email your creations to family and friends and share them on Facebook. I don’t smell anymore.

Or rather, I don’t smell our washing machine anymore.  Remember a month or so ago, I confessed the dirty (gross) secret that sometimes and oh, did that confession lift a weight off of my shoulders.  I won’t lie, it was very reassuring and comforting to know that so many of you, my friends, had the same secret.  We don’t have to suffer in silence any more.  I found a solution that works for me.

Remember when I did confess, I also said I was going to try the affresh washer cleaner?  Well, I did.  And it was fine.  But then a few weeks passed, and I started thinking oh, boy, time for the stinkies.  But instead of waiting for the stinkies to join us, I decided to be proactive, and did the cleansing process as recommended by the folks at affresh.

It worked.

It really worked.  We’ve not had the stinkies.  Since JUNE.  Of this year!

It didn’t even cost tons of money, nor did I need professionals to assist me or do it for me.  [click to continue…]

Pocket Purifier: Kill germs without chemicals (Giveaway)

As a mom I am always looking for a quick and simple way to make sure my son is not exposed to too many germs. The Pocket Purifier is a compact germicidal light that uses the same UV-C light that is often used to sterilize surgical instruments.
This hand-held sterilizer is powered by 4 AA batteries and it also has a handy flashlight option. The Pocket Purifier can be used on baby changing stations, grocery carts, cutting boards and so much more!
I used it on my keyboard, counters and pillow. Items like pillows and stuffed animals are hard to wash so I thought the Pocket Purifier would be a great way to eliminate germs on them. It is hard to see the results but after a bit of research I found that UV-C is a proven way to safely sterilize items. [click to continue…]

Mabel’s Labels Ultimate Back-to-School Combo™(Giveaway)

Those of you with little ones know how easy it is to lose personal items.  What better way to keep track of all your kids “stuff” than to label it.  I am personally a fan of labelling everything.  Don’t tell my husband, but I would just DIE for a personal label maker.  Perhaps for a birthday or Christams gift.  Heck, I would label my kids if I could.  Making things neat and organized is my idea of a dream.

Anyhoo, when I heard about these great label from Mabel’s Labels, I was instantly intriuged.  Hmmmm, cute, custom, PERSONALIZED labels that I can use for my kids.  I’m all over this.  I had the opportunity to try out their Ultimate Back To School Combo, which is currently on sale for $39.  [click to continue…]

The Lion’s Deceit by Mpho Otukile

The Lion’s Deceit is a wonderful children’s book in which a lazy lion uses trickery to get his food so he doesn’t have to hunt for it- and there are several lessons to be learned along the way. We love books in our house and are always excited to have new ones to read- my oldest has read this several times to the younger kids, and we’ve all read it together a few times as well.

I like that Mpho Otukile is continuing a tradition of storytelling morals and life lessons through children’s literature. I think this is a beautiful gift she is giving not only her own children but mine as well- and any other child who reads her stories.  I’m anxious for her next story to come out!

Life lessons and morals need to be shared somehow, and I remember clearly my mom and dad pulling particular books from the shelves depending upon what trouble we got oursleves into as children.  Laziness isn’t the way to live- and stories like this help to illustrate this message to children clearly without seeming condescending or preachy, which hopefully means kids will be receptive to learning them and not resentful that they are being taught lessons.

This is a sweet book and I think it would be a nice addition to any bookshelf.  I’m happy to report that my children agreed with the story that hard work is important and laziness is not a good thing! [click to continue…]

Backyard Safari Outfitters- a must have for summer fun!

My kids LOVE being outside. They love to play outside, read outside, craft outside, hike, hunt, roll, help, work- you name it, they are happy to do it outdoors.  They love having adventures, and the older they get, the more they want to have their own adventures without mom and dad “interrupting” (interfering) and putting their own spin on things.  We received a box of fun from the nice folks over at Backyard Safari Outfitters a while back, and let me tell you, they have LOVED this entire line of ” toys” and gear.

From the tiniest carabiner to the brown camouflaging netting, there’s not been anything we’ve discovered either here at home or in stores made by this company that wasn’t a huge hit.  These are kid toys, built to last, but also built to look just like the adult versions.  Sure, bright pink tents decorated to look like sharks are cute and fun, but what about the kids that want to camp and hang out in a tent and not be seen, or are trying to be INCOGNITO?  Kids don’t always want or need bright colors and toys that do things for them, I know mine don’t, and I love that Backyard Safari Outfitters has kept this in mind when they design their product.  (I have to say they do have a camp lantern that does require batteries but that’s more a practical thing and it, too has a carabiner so you can hang it from the tent for light to read cool books, check out the adventure guides, or hang from your vest as you explore in the dark night outside on an adventure.) Member’s Mark 4X Probiotic (Giveaway)#DigestiveHealth

I’m trying Member’s Mark 4X Probiotic supplement for the first time.  I’m really good about having probiotics for my kids, and even for our dog, Tobey, but for myself, notsomuch.  I figured it was about time for me to be a bit more proactive for myself so that I’m not just taking care of my kids and family, but also taking care of myself.  One of those pesky resolutions for 2011 that I kind of let slide by- taking care of myself…always the first thing to go out the window when life happens, I guess.

Probiotics are important to our health- and since I just can’t stand the taste of yogurt, I need to do something to help ensure that there is a balance of good bacteria in my digestive tract.  Since yogurt is full of good bacteria, I would love to enjoy it and reap the benefits, but unfortunately, my taste buds stage a full out rebellion when I attempt yogurt.  SO, here I am, my Member’s Mark 4x probiotics (available at Sam’s Club)in hand, seeing where this goes!  I anticipate that these will work just as well as name brand counterparts, only at a lower cost, which is always something that makes me happy.  I am hoping that Mr. Bargains will be receptive to trying this product as well, because there is so much benefit to having good bacteria in our systems!
