I recently received a 9-month supply of Nature Made Prenatal Multi + DHA Vitamins. You may wonder why I would think about prenatal vitamins when I am done having children, but since I’m still nursing Baby B and intend to continue nursing her until her 2nd birthday next August, I have a ways to go…and I also need to ensure that I am taking in the nutrients I need for both my body and for hers. (I am not advocating taking vitamins in place of actual nutrition but especially when pregnant and nursing, I think the extra boost can be of benefit!)
When I was pregnant with all 3 of my kids, I had “morning” sickness. Ladies, you know what I mean when I say “morning” because, oddly enough, our bodies and our growing babies in there don’t seem to understand clocks and “morning” means 24/7. I was sick throwing up well into all of my pregnancies, and finding a prenatal vitamin that I could swallow and keep down was a trial and error process (many, many errors, unfortunately). I can’t promise you that this one WILL work when you are in the throes of morning sickness but I am, since my kids were gestating, a person who is super queasy in the morning with an empty stomach and I have had zero issues with these vitamins at all. I think prenatals need to be super gentle on our stomachs with or without morning sickness in the mix- there’s enough going on in our bodies without adding any stressors!!
- Nature Made was the first OTC brand to launch a Prenatal Multivitamin with 200mg DHA in one single softgel so that expecting moms/nursing moms would only have to take 1 softgel per day.

What is DHA?
DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid that plays an important role in brain development, especially during the critical period of fetal development and infancy. DHA is transferred directly from the mother to the fetus during brain and retina development or to the infants through breastfeeding. Recommended DHA dose is 200-300 mg/day.
What is Folic Acid?
Folic acid, sometimes called folate, is a B vitamin (B9) found mostly in leafy green vegetables like kale and spinach, orange juice, and enriched grains. Repeated studies have shown that women who get 400 micrograms or more (0.4 milligrams) daily prior to conception and during early pregnancy may reduce the risk that their baby will be born with a serious neural tube defect (a birth defect involving incomplete development of the brain and spinal cord) by up to 70%.
How do the the vitamins, iron, etc. play a part in my overall health?
Vitamins A, C, D & Zinc – Support Immune System Health
Iron – Supports Blood Cell Production
B – Complex (Vitamins B6, B12) – Supports Energy Metabolism
EPA/DHA, Niacin – Support Heart and Circulatory Health
