I had a post started last Saturday, right at this time, set to go live on Monday, 10/31, talking about the Audiovox Portable DVD player we got to review, and how its nice and compact, and works well.

I just erased all that, a week later, because during my drafting of that post, we lost power.  It came on late at night on Thursday- almost 6 days later.  When we lost power, because we’re on a well, we lost water, our landline, tv, internet, and probably some of our sanity.  No joke.  Have YOU ever been housebound during a substantial snowstorm in October with 3 small children?  Neither had I.

We were ill prepared for this storm.  One thing we did have was this DVD player, and something that I will forever love my husband for purchasing, about 2 years ago- a Coleman PowerMate.   With the power mate, we were able to plug the Audiovox in using the car adapter,  and let the kids sit and chill and watch a dvd at some point each day while the power was out.  This gave me time to go out and get snow melted on the grill to wash dishes, or to heat water to rinse them once we were able to go get water from my sisters up the road…or to just try to figure out a plan for minimizing food waste and loss from the freezers, keeping the house as warm as possible (it was in the 20s several nights this week) and honestly, just trying to sit down and chill for a few.

Sure, this DVD player is great- its functional, easy to use, portable, comes with a nice pouch for storage without scratches.    I can tell you it doesn’t use a lot of electrical “juice” because it didn’t drain the powermate fast at all.  But its also a lifesaver in my house.  This week could have gone very, very differently and I attribute the smoothness of this week largely in part due to this little DVD player.  If you don’t have one, buy one.  I love this Audiovox and am so thankful I’d had it before the storm hit!!!

This sleek compact 7-inch portable DVD player will entertain the kids anywhere , anytime. The stylish look and quality design makes this DVD player look just as good as the movies it plays! Compatible with DVD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, picture CD and has 2 hour playback capabilities.

  • New design
  • 7 inch LCD display
  • Dual headphone jacks
  • 2 hour playback
  • 16:9 aspect ratio
  • Built-in stereo speakers
  • Audio/Video output
  • Plays DVD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW & Picture CD
  • Accessories Included: AC adapter, vehicle power adapter

Or you can enter to win one.  Or both.  But 5-6 days with no lights and no power can wear on anyone and having SOMETHING to do to pass the time pleasantly is awesome.  Even if you don’t use it!!  Just having it is great.   I’m sure we’ll be using it in the van at some point as well! Check out what Living on Love and Cents and A Mom’s Take have to say about this same DVD player- and stop by Our Kids Mom and Just Married with Coupons to hear how they like their RCA Camcorders!!

I received a sample of this product in exchange for my post through  my affiliation with Shout! Media.  Opinions are my own.

  • My husband and I have a favorite movie that we have literally watched at least a hundred times – A Good Year – with Russell Crowe. I’m sure that would be the first one we watch.

I’ve wanted one of these for years, and the expense has always made me not buy it since something else is always higher on the priority list. Thank you so very much for a chance to win one!
