Don’t you just love supporting a family run company that is also environmentally friendly? Yala has a unique story and a unique perspective. Yala Designs was originally started by a family of two English teachers who were living in China with their young daughter. Their first product was actually made out of necessity while travelling. They stitched together two sheets to make a “dream sack” for sleeping in. They remain a family operated business to this day.
Yala carries beautiful items for baby/children, women, men, travel and accessories. They are a strictly sustainable company that practices fair trade with their partners in China. They have partnered with Green Shipping to make their shipments carbon neutral. They even dye their products using low impact dye. Yala designs is also committed to supporting many national, international and local organizations.
Yala’s fabrics are made from bamboo which is organically grown in sustainably managed forests. The fabric itself is made from viscose from bamboo. I have never previously owned any products made with bamboo and I was really surprised by the luxurious feel of this fabric. It is incredibly soft and smooth against the skin, unlike any other fabric I have experienced. The fabric is lightweight enough that it would be perfect for cool or warm weather. I can’t wait to put my new baby in this lovely garment. Now that I know what a quality product this is, I am must dying to try out one of their women’s nightgowns. I can imagine that this would be the most comfortable fabric for sleeping!
I tried out the Bamboo Dreams long sleeve onesie in a navy and neutral stripe. I love the simple design and delicious fabric of this garment. This is one of those pieces you know will last wash after wash without pilling or shrinkage and can easily be handed down to another child. I love when I can reuse baby clothing! They carry a variety of cute children’s items, like his adorable Two Knot Hat and short sleeve lap shirts in gorgeous colors.
