When I first thought about trying cloth, I posted on Freecycle if anyone had a size medium cloth diaper.  I had no idea what I was asking for, really, it was just a spur of the moment thing.  A wonderful woman named Sheila who has since become a friend of mine responded and explained that she could give me a gPant and a bag of refills but that they were hybrid diapers and did I mind?  We arranged for me to pick the diaper and refills up the next day.  To my surprise, when I picked up the stuff at her house, she’d given me 4 gPants AND a full bag of the inserts, and even took the time to get one all ready to go so I could see how they were supposed to work.  Up until that day I don’t think I’d even heard of gDiapers! One diaper, and I was hooked. Oh, the cuteness. Plus, I felt like I was doing good for our earth.
Let me tell you, if you think its hard to use cloth or hybrids- Sheila used gDiapers with her twins.  It can be done!!    If you aren’t familiar with gDiapers, but are considering cloth – or maybe thinking about trying something besides traditional disposables, definitely head over to their site and read the story.  It probably won’t surprise you that gDiapers was the brainchild of parents.

The most eco-friendly diaper available, gDiapers provides parents with a diapering solution that is good for babies, parents and the planet. You can have the flexibility of a disposable diaper with a 100% biodegradable gRefill, or opt for reusability with super soft and trim-fitting gCloth inserts. gDiapers are plastic-free, elemental chlorine free, latex free, and perfume free.

Use a biodegradable gRefill or re-usable gCloth inside our newborn tiny gPants and our cotton little gPants. All materials are breathable, just like sports clothing, so babies are far less likely to get diaper rash. And did we mention they’re cute? Babies can flaunt their eco-friendly diapers in a rainbow of adorable colors. Because green diapers don’t need to be bland.

The gDiaper system consists of the gPant, snap in liners (I recommend 2 liners per little g and perhaps a few extras) and either the gcloth inserts or the flushable inserts (we composted ours).  The gPants are the fun part of the system- these are what other see, what looks so cute poking out of baby pants, showing under a dress…and they are so soft and easy to use!  The liners snap into the little pants and hold the insert in place, either the cloth or the flushable- you don’t need to change the liner unless the diaper is soiled, and even when you do you can reuse the little g pant more than once before washing!

This was my first time trying the gcloth in the medium/large size, and I was quite pleased with how these inserts performed.  They are made from 2 layers of microfleece (this wicks the moisture away from baby) and 2 layers of hemp, which is a super absorbent material.   I have found myself reaching for the gcloth inserts at bedtime to stuff into our pocket diapers for extra absorbency because these hold so much!!
