GoodNites Disposable Bed Mats Coupon and Giveaway (4 winners)

Goodnites Bedtime Underwear 300x250 Banner 1

I am still in disbelief that all three of my children are potty trained.  Now, my oldest has been accident free for 18 months, and my just about 5 year old has one accident a year?? But my little one, who just turned 3 last week…she’s just not ready to be dry overnight.  She’s frequently dry, but not reliably. The problem is she’s adamant about NO DIAPERS!!  and even when we put them on her, by the time I go in to tuck her in and kiss her before I go to bed, she’s wearing nothing at all on her little tush.  Cute, but the laundry gets old really fast.  I’ve been searching for a solution and I think I have found it in the new GoodNites Disposable Bed Mats.  She can wear big girl underpants to bed, and I don’t have to worry about wet sheets in the morning.  I would much rather not make this a power struggle and let her be in underpants, and the GoodNites allow me to do so.

After learning some helpful facts, readers can print a $2 coupon for GoodNites Disposable Bed Mats so they can try them out with their own kids! While downloading the coupon, you can also learn facts about bed wetting like what causes it and how you can help your child avoid it
You can also shop all the GoodNites Disposable Bed Mats products and learn exactly how they work

For the giveaway, I’d like readers to interact with the unique features on the page. So, for one of the ways to enter, I’d like readers to visit the page and leave a comment on your post saying what they learned from the quiz about bed wetting.

Fairy Tales Hair Care Rosemary Repel Lice Prevention Giveaway

It’s here, friends. Back to school time. Back to germs…and the increased risk of LICE. I kid you not, just typing those words makes my skin crawl and my scalp itch. I had lice once, in 2nd grade. I remember my mom putting all my stuff through the washer over and over again, bagging my toys in dark trash bags and putting them in the freezer if they fit.  Such a yucky feeling.  I hated it.  I also remember the product she put on my hair and scalp, and that super fine toothed comb that took hours to go through…it was not fun for anyone in the house.  I dread the day it comes into my house…although hopefully with regular use of Fairy Tales Hair Care’s Rosemary Repel line of products, which consist of natural ingredients known to repel lice…hopefully we won’t have lice in the house.

We’ve been using Rosemary Repel products  for almost a year now- and I’m especially glad we have it in the house now, before school starts. I have three in elementary school this year and that to me means triple the risk.  I love to be able to use natural products to try to prevent things like lice from entering our home- it helps me feel like I’m protecting my children but also preventing a huge mess.

Pencils and erasers aren’t the only thing students are bringing back to school this season; head lice outbreaks are rampant during the school year.  In fact, according to the Center for Disease Control, there are between 6-12 million cases of head lice cases annually.

“Preventing lice is much easier than managing an outbreak, which can be a stressful, time consuming and an expensive experience for both parents and children,” said Risa Barash, founder of Fairy Tales Hair Care.  “Outbreaks can impact entire schools, play groups, athletic/dance facilities and daycare centers.” Fortunately, following a few simple guidelines can help deter the problem.  “Don’t share hats, helmets, brushes and combs and do weekly head checks; use it as a nice time to talk to your child,” recommends Barash.

Since 1999,  has been the source for education and tips on head lice prevention and removal.  The site provides educational material and how to videos to help educate parents, school nurses and teachers on all things head lice related. The Rosemary Repel® line of hair care is designed to repel lice using organic ingredients such as rosemary, tea tree, citronella, peppermint and lavender oils. Rosemary Repel Hair Care is clinically proven to be over 95% effective when combined.   Gentle and safe for everyday use, each product is infused with aloe, jojoba and vitamins that leave hair soft, smooth and shiny.

The free iPhone app, “The Facts of Lice” is the first of its kind to report and track lice outbreaks.  With over 250,000 downloads to date, parents and educators can anonymously report an outbreak and receive notifications when an outbreak is in a selected zip code.

Naturally caring for families since 1999, Fairy Tales Hair Care produces an assortment of premium-quality, non-toxic hair care products and bug repellents for children.  Dedicated to maintaining the health of every family member, the company’s formulas are made with the best organic herbs and essential oils and are nut-, soy, dairy- and gluten-free.  The brand’s Rosemary Repel collection is the U.S. leader in natural lice prevention products.  Headquartered in Passaic, New Jersey, Fairy Tales Hair Care products are available in fine salons, pharmacies, Ulta Stores, and specialty stores nationwide. Fellowes Saturn2 95 Laminator (plus a coupon!)

I’ve waited a really, really long time to say this. I have my very own Fellowes Saturn2 95 laminator. I can laminate whatever I want, whenever I want. Well, anything that fits into my Fellowes Laminator. Emergency cards? Laminated. Fun printable activities? Laminated. Name tags for the kids to wear the first few weeks of school? Laminated in seconds. If it’s the right size and fits, I’m probably going to at least attempt to laminate it. I even took some Astrobrights paper and made little wipe off calendars for each of the kids – if they are waiting anxiously for an event (like their birthday) they can use a dry erase marker to cross off the days while waiting- and they aren’t going to be asking me 100 times a day to write on my family calendar! (Of course, this won’t stop them from asking, but I can direct them to their own calendars).

Name tag going into the laminator

I’m a Brownie troop leader (well, to be. We’re moving up to Brownies this fall, my oldest and me). That offers more chances to laminate. The Girl Scout Law, the Girl Scout Promise- both have to be memorized, and now I can make my girls cute little laminated cards with the Law & Promise on them that won’t get wet or ripped!

Name tag coming out of the laminator

With the holidays almost always comes cookie swapping. I am not sure I’ve ever finished writing out a recipe card and NOT spilled on it at some point. Recipe cards are great for laminating too. Plus, if you have a special recipe card that maybe your favorite aunt wrote out for you, and you are afraid the ink may fade or wash away if it gets wet- laminating that card means preserving her handwriting and comments/notes…while still being able to use the card.

Laminating a wipe off calendar for my son

I laminated brightly colored triangles to make a “Back to School” banner for the kids.

This laminator is so much fun to have around.  Practical, yes, but also fun.  There are so many things I have plans to laminate- and so many friends who want to borrow it!
For some fun laminating ideas, click here

HeatGuard™ Technology: Double-walled insulation keeps heat inside so laminator is comfortable to touch, making it safe for homes with children (Safety is so important, especially given that you have to let your machine warm up before use- it’s hard to just sit next to a machine for 20 minutes when there are other things to do!)

Advanced Temperature Control: Hot and cold laminating capabilities ensure consistent, smooth results every time

Jam Release Lever: Permits easy removal or re-centering of stalled pouches. (Levers like this were made for people like me.  I don’t deny it).

From August 5th – August 25th friends of Mom Central can use exclusive coupon code 87298 to receive $30 off the regular price ($159.99) of a Fellowes Saturn2 95 at! (while supplies last; maximum two machines per person)

“I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Fellowes and received a product sample to facilitate my review.”

SAFESKIN Kids Antibacterial Gel

Kids fall down.  They get cuts, scrapes, burns, etc.  There’s not a way to stop it, really- it’s part of childhood (or for some of us, *coughcough ME coughcough* part of life…).  As parents, we want to do what we can to make those boo boos better- making sure they don’t get infected is always top priority for me after I can wipe their tears away.  I’m glad there’s a product like  SAFESKIN* Kids Antibacterial Gel from Kimberly-Clark Professional- a new first aid topical antibacterial gel that provides a barrier to MRSA, highly contagious staph bacteria that can infect skin, invade other parts of the body and is resistant to many antibiotics.

SAFESKIN* Kids Antibacterial Gel offers a long-lasting protective barrier on minor cuts, scrapes, wounds, burns and bug bites– up to 48 hours.

MRSA is highly prevalent in places where children come in close contact with one another like day care centers, playgrounds, locker rooms, classrooms, gymnasiums and sports facilities.
SAFESKIN* Kids Antibacterial Gel is available at select Walgreens locations with a suggested retail price of $4.95.

The fish bandaid is super cute and all, but this particular boo-boo was from a hard fall on the cement patio and could easily have become infected. I’d do anything to keep my little ones safe!  This little guy actually had a run-in with a boiling hot cup of tea, about a week after this photo was taken.  Thankfully he was wearing a fleece sleeper when it happened which wicked away much of the water and minimized his burns but he had 3rd and 2nd degree burns up and down his left arm from them…I would most definitely have looked to SAFESKIN for some extra protection!

Don’t forget that you can enter to win a $100 Walgreens gift card courtesy of the folks at SAFESKIN until August 25, 2012 at 11:59 PM EST!

I received compensation from Kimberly-Clark Professional in the form of a gift card and product samples to participate in this campaign promoting the SAFESKIN* Kids Antibacterial Gel. In addition, Kimberly-Clark Professional provided the gift card I am using as the prize in my promotion.

Back Up Better Vehicle Safety Products

Back Up Better

This is not my van but is almost identical in size to mine. The scariest thing to me is how LITTLE we can see below the rear window- where kids and pets are bound to be!

Earlier this morning, I was with the kids in a busy local shopping plaza parking lot. This is an older parking lot and it does not fit today’s parking needs, to say the least. It’s dangerous and narrow and I only go there because I love that particular grocery store. Trying to leave a parking space in that store is harrowing every single time.  Too many large cars and no visibility. I creep out and look as many times as I can.  I’m terrified I’ll miss seeing something- or someONE, and my heart skips a beat every time I pull out.  When I saw that my friend Janel from A Mom’s Take had recently shared about the Back Up Better products, I started to investigate.  I wanted to know more and where I could find some for my vehicles!

“In the U.S. at least fifty (50) children are being backed over by vehicles EVERY week.” (

Another place of concern for backing up?  At home.  We’re hyper conscious when we back up in our driveway and either have the kids in the car with us or have them stand by the garage where we can see them at all times. I’ve heard way too many tragic stories that have devastating endings that involve children being backed over in their own driveways.

back up better lens

See the difference the Back Up Better lens can make?

We have three older vehicles and back up cameras aren’t options for us- having them installed is cost prohibitive at this point and finding an easy to install option that IS affordable was something I wasn’t aware existed.  Thankfully, I am now aware these products exist.  I have some en route to my house, in fact!

Why am I so glad to find out about Back Up Better?  These are some alarming statistics.  Better safe than sorry, I say.  You can’t ever be too cautious, especially with the distractions facing todays drivers.

Nearly 50% of children injured in backover incidents were 1 to 4 years old. Most backovers occurred either at home or in driveways or parking lots.

Backover fatalities happen most commonly in the driveway, closely followed by other residential areas, nonresidential parking lots and public roadways.

From 2001 to 2003, approximately 7,475 children (2,492 per year) aged 1 to14 years were treated for non-fatal motor vehicle backover injuries in emergency departments.

In November 2008, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimated that there are 18,000 backover injuries annually, of which 292 are fatal.

Check these images out- one is a side view mirror without Back Up Better product, and the other has the Back Up Better.  A picture speaks 1,000 words, right?

So where does Back Up Better come from?  Two neighbors. Two concerned parents.  Two people just like you and me.  They saw a problem and an affordable, simple solution.

It’s simple. We’re a group of parents with SUVs and Minivans, just like you. We’ve read all the horror stories. We’ve seen them in national headlines. More importantly though, we’ve seen them happen in the driveways and parking lots much too close to our own homes.Automobile and truck manufacturers and legislative bodies have wrestled for years over the elimination of vehicle blind spots. Legislation has been established, named after a doctor who himself ran over his own child… but we’re still years away from real solutions. All the while, children continue to die in avoidable, regrettable backup incidents. And no parents want that child to be their own. We get chills when we think about all of the backup incidents we discovered? There are tens of millions of vehicles on the roads today that have no line of sight to what is directly behind them, and in many cases, what is to the immediate side.Blind spots. We’ve decided to do something about it — not in a few years — but today.

We’ve researched the subject. We’ve compiled the stories. We’ve researched solutions. We’ve tested products in the real world, with real people… with our neighbors and friends and with their neighbors and friends (many of whom are quoted here). We’ve found simple and inexpensive solutions that really work. And we offer them to you right here, right now.

So what are the Back Up Better products?
Well, there are three products.

Back Up Better Rearview Lens (comes in 2 sizes, $14.99 or $23.99) The Back Up Better Lens is a thin, flexible plastic lens that adheres easily with a little water to the rear window of your SUV, minivan, truck or station wagon. It expands your sight far beyond the field of vision normally available through your rear window. By doing so, it enables you to see much more area and objects that would currently be in your blind spots, closer to the rear of the vehicle, down, up, and to the left and right. Professional truckers have used these lenses for years on their large cabs side windows to increase their view of cars below their level of vision and outside the views of their mirrors. Viewing through the lens literally expands the world around you.

Back Up Better Add-On Blind Spot Mirrors(come in 4 sizes, $6.99 or $12.99) These convex spot Add-On Mirrors attach easily to your vehicle’s driver and passenger side mirrors, greatly increasing your field of view behind and alongside your vehicle, virtually eliminating blind spots. They more than triple your side view.

Back Up Better Add-On Blind Spot Mirrors are all manufactured in tough non-reflective black ABS plastic with a quality reflective mirror surface and attach with weather-resistant Peel & Stick adhesive patches, already applied to the backs. Just clean your mirror with household (Isopropyl) alcohol, then peel and stick. These are inexpensive additions that greatly enhance your vehicle’s Backup and lane changing safety – and give you a lot more comfort and confidence.

Back Up Better Back Up Alarms(one size fits all vehicles, $14.79).  These backup alarms produce a loud beeping sound that triggers automatically when your vehicle’s transmission is put into reverse. Don’t let their low cost deceive you. They really work. The warning sounds alert people close to your vehicle to pay attention when you’re backing up. Demonstrate it for your children.

This alarm can save a life, while keeping neighborhood noise to a minimum. And their minute size and single wire installations make them quick and simple to install in all 12-volt vehicles. Very simple installation instructions for do-it-yourselfers, or your local gas station or mechanic, are included. One size fits all vehicles.

Even purchasing all three products in the larger sizes, you won’t spend more than $56.00 with shipping and you can be assured that your field of vision when backing up is improved dramatically.  Definitely an investment worth making, in my opinion!  What a great gift these will make!  All three products are available for purchase on Back Up Better’s website.

SAFESKIN* Kids Antibacterial Gel

My son has discovered the joys of sharp turns that send you flying on his scooter.  He’s no longer on a scooter with three wheels, he’s moved up to the “big kid” kind, and we’ve had many new scrapes, bumps and bruises as a result.  I have lost count of how many “Mom! Did you see that?  Wasn’t it so cool?” as he flies over the handlebar or tumbles off of the scooter.  He has actually scraped his scrapes that weren’t fully healed, and done so more than once.  Given that scooters don’t work on grass (at least not well), when he falls, I’m always aware that there’s dirt, rocks, and whatever other bacteria and germs that may be on the patio getting into his cuts and scrapes- which as we know can potentially lead to infections.  I’d of course prefer that he just live in a bubble and not do super cool wipeouts, but it’s too late for that.  I can’t keep him from being active, nor do I want to- but I sure can do what I can to make sure he’s safe- he’s always got a helmet on, we’re very seriously contemplating knee pads for him, and we are sure to have a fully stocked first aid kit nearby.

Healthy Hygiene Tips for Kids from SAFESKIN Kids Gel

One thing that’s definitely going to be in our First Aid Kit from now on is  SAFESKIN* Kids Antibacterial Gel which provides  a barrier to the infection.  SAFESKIN* Kids Antibacterial Gel is a new first aid topical gel (available at select Walgreens for $4.95) that provides a barrier to MRSA and other infections on scrapes, cuts, burns and more for up to 48 hours with a bandage on.  (I could have used this myself when we were doing the demolition of our bathroom last week- if you have never experienced the joys of demolition with a clumsy person, let me just tell you, have a lot of first aid supplies on hand.  I think I used a box of bandages for just me in one day!  The SAFESKIN would have given me a bit more piece of mind that I wasn’t going to get an infection of some sort.  The material we were removing from our bathroom was installed in 1946 when our house was built- inches of cement, metal screening, old tile…all combinations that could easily be welcoming bacteria to cause infection.

SAFESKIN* Kids Antibacterial Gel (from Kimberly Clark Professional) Product Benefits:

  • Use for topical wound care for minor cuts, scrapes and burns
  • Provides barrier to MRSA
  • Antibacterial gel that is antibiotic free
  • Long lasting up to 48 hours – if the bandaged wound stays clean and dry
  • Non-greasy formula helps bandages to stay in place better
  • Fragrance and alcohol free, non-staining patented formulation
  • Made in United States

Why Children & Teens Are at Risk for MRSA

Caring for the minor cuts, scrapes, wounds, burns and bug bites that children sustain from being active is often a routine task for parents, teachers and coaches. While cuts and scrapes may happen frequently, it’s critical that they receive prompt and correct attention as they are potential entryways for infection. Using SAFESKIN* Kids Antibacterial Gel when caring for a wound when it happens will help protect your children from dangerous staph infections like MRSA.

MSRA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is one of many strains of a bacterium called staph (Staphylococcus aureus) and is resistant to some of the antibiotics typically used to treat skin and soft tissue infections including methicillin and other penicillin type antibiotics such as amoxicillin and the cephalosporins.1 MRSA is highly prevalent in places where children come in close contact with one another like day care centers, playgrounds, locker rooms, classrooms, gymnasiums and sports facilities. Toddlers, children and teens are likely to experience skin-to-skin contact in these places and may share equipment that has not been properly cleaned. Staph infections like MRSA also spread via skin-to-skin contact when playing sports, like wrestling, football, baseball or lacrosse, or from surfaces in gyms and locker rooms like showers, benches and countertops.

Skin Infection Statistics & Children

  • Rates of Community-Associated MRSA (CA-MRSA), a staph skin infection that affects people in the community, have rapidly increased during the past decades
  • According to the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, skin diseases accounted for 56 percent of all infectious diseases in competitive sports from 1922 through 20053
  • With more than 38 million children and teens participating in youth sports activities, it’s critical that parents, coaches and teachers practice proper wound care.4
  • In 2009, 71,900 children were hospitalized because of infections under the skin5
  • Centers for Disease Control estimates there are approximately 10,800 deaths in the United States each year caused by staph infections, of which 5,500 are linked to MRSA6
  • Skin and soft tissue infections represented 69.9 hospitalizations per 100,000 U.S. children per year from 1996-2006; the rate of CA-MRSA skin and soft tissue infections increased over this period from one in every 100,000 cases in 1996 to 25.5 cases per 100,000 cases in 20067

How to Use SAFESKIN* Kids Antibacterial Gel:
SAFESKIN* Kids Antibacterial Gel is easy to use and should be applied with adult supervision. Always wash your hands or use alcohol-based hand sanitizers before cleaning or dressing a wound. Remove any dirt or debris from the wound if necessary. Wash the wound with lukewarm water and mild soap then blot the injured area dry with a clean towel. Apply SAFESKIN* Kids Antibacterial Gel to the wound and surrounding area. Cover with bandage and repeat every one to three days, sooner if the bandage becomes wet or soiled. A product like the SAFESKIN* Kids SPORT WRAP can help hold a bandage in place. Change the dressing every day.

Yoplait Trix Yogurt Offers Healthy Snack Options for Kids

We try very hard to offer healthy snack options for our children.  I’ve struggled with weight my whole life, and I’m trying to instill healthy habits from an early age in the hopes that my children don’t follow this particular set of footprints of mine.  One of the things I’m thrilled that my children love to have for snack is yogurt– all three of them love it.  Their current favorite is Yoplait Trix Yogurt.  They love the Trix yogurt for the fun Trix bunny, plus the “fun” flavors offered.  I love it because yogurt is a great source of Vitamind D, calcium and protein, and I know that yogurt is a snack that will fill them up and keep them going.  They also love that they can have yogurt with “cotton candy” for a flavor, because they have had cotton candy exactly twice in their lives, and would love to have it daily.

Another thing I like as a mom with the Trix yogurt is that it’s budget friendly.  Often on sale, and frequently with coupons out, you can have a little fun with the kids’ yogurt without breaking the bank.  I’m a buy it in bulk kind of mom- when I can, I purchase larger containers (my kids would do a very happy dance if I brought home a 32 oz container of Trix, I can promise that!!)- but especially when we are on the go, or when school starts again, it’s nice to have some more portable options around.

We have been known to push a popsicle stick into the foil cover of Trix yogurts and stick them in the freezer.  They are sweet enough to be a treat for the kids, and really, its hard not to love any snack that comes on a stick!  Mostly, the kids just love to have it.  They’ll eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack if we let them.

We try to encourage the kids to have a variety of healthy foods each day- for snacks and meals.  We also try to get creative with yogurt- aside from making yogurt popsicles, we’ve also put frozen blueberries into it (the yogurt freezes around the berries, making them almost frozen little treats) and my little ones really love dunking pieces of graham cracker and strawberries  into their yogurt as a dip.  There are so many ways we can include healthy snack options for our kids – and it always amazes me how one little thing changed can make an old snack seem new again.  Setting out tiny cups of yogurt “dip” with a platter of fruits and a few graham crackers or animal crackers makes for a huge hit with the kids- its the same fruit and yogurt we’re eating on so many other days, but switch it up and it’s like new!  The kids are happy they have a fun snack that tastes great, and I’m happy because they are eating healthy foods.

Trix yogurt has no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial flavors or sweeteners.  I hate buying products with high fructose corn syrup and my kids know if there is HFCS in something, mommy’s probably not going to think about buying it.  Trix is a treat in my house and my kids get very excited when I bring it home for them.

Trix yogurt also comes with Box Tops for Education on the packaging- which shows me that this is a company that cares about our children and our future.  Our school here in town collects Box Tops, and I’ve got just about everyone I know collecting them along with us.  It’s quite simple, really- you just cut the little box tops out and tuck them into a baggie or envelope.  Drop them off at a local school or at a neighbor’s house who has kids.  It’s such a simple way to help our schools!

“Trix are for kids” but unwanted additives definitely are not. That’s why Yoplait® Trix® Yogurt comes in silly, swirly flavors kids love, without high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors, or sweeteners. It’s still the same bright, fun, colorful snack, only better. You’ll love that they love it!

What are your families’ favorite healthy snacks?  Do you have any creative ideas to share?

Pick Your Day: Take the plunge and start the conversation!

Listen, as a mother of two girls, and having been a daughter to my mother for many years, picking the “day” is never going to be easy.  It probably won’t be comfortable.  Your tween won’t be any more comfortable than you are, but I promise you, once you do Pick Your Day and have The Talk, you’ll be oh so very glad you did.  If you have a girl, chances are really, really good that she’s going to get her first period.  Maybe when she’s 10, like I was, and maybe when she’s 16, like some of my friends were.  Taking the plunge and having the talk before that time comes is going to give your daughter (or niece, granddaughter, cousin…) the information she needs to be able to handle having her period, and knowing what to expect.

I’m not saying this will be easy.  In fact, it probably won’t.  But if you don’t, who will?  A friend, who’s prone to dramatizing things?  The rumor mill, which never seems to have much truth or validity running through it?  Get past the awkward and get into the talk.  It’ll be worth it.  She’ll know a bit more about what’s going to happen to her body, which may already have started in some ways, before it’s happened, so things won’t come as a surprise.  She’ll know to keep pads and maybe tampons in her bag, for just in case.  She’ll know not to panic that something’s wrong if it happens when she’s not with you.  She’ll know it’s normal.  She’ll know it’s ok.

Now, this is not an easy topic and it is kind of serious but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with it…I find for me that poking a bit of fun at myself helps me to settle my nerves and kind of breaks the ice.  (I’m going to try to put together some fun and silly ways to break the ice in August, so stay tuned).

I can just imagine a conversation with my oldest now. “So, um, maybe you notice that there’s some times when mommy seems very very crabby, and seems to always want to have chocolate.”  Maybe she’ll roll her eyes at me…maybe she won’t.  But she’ll probably smirk just a tiny little bit and then I can start to explain why…she’s seen my ‘period products’ her whole life in the bathroom, in the cabinet- she knows there are times when I go into the cabinet and times  I don’t.  She’s asked what those things are for a while- for a short time, I simply said that they were things that grown up girls need to use and that I’d explain more as she got older, but that it was ok…and no, I didn’t have a boo-boo.  (Two out of three of my kids have found pads or pantiliners in the house and have questioned WHY we have these enormous bandaids, and have asked why we don’t have ones with Dora or Barbie or Spiderman on them).

Now that my daughter is older and getting (uncomfortably) close to the age when I got my first period, I’ve been a bit more open with her.  Those are tampons, and these are maxipads.  Ladies wear these sometimes and no, it doesn’t hurt.  You will probably need them when you get older, and we can talk about it whenever you want…..that worked for a while, but honestly? I need to Pick MY Day.  It is time.

So here are some tips from U by Kotex to help get started on picking your day:

Step 1:
First Period Facts— Keep this simple.  Facts don’t have to include every single detail.  Keep it light (like her first period will hopefully be!)

Step 2:
Prepare for the Talk– Gather some information.  Find a time that you can be with your girl without a ton of distractions, so she can ask questions in private.

Step 3:
The Right Product for Her– I plan to have some of the products from U by Kotex to show her, so that she can see them, touch them, check them out, and ask questions.  The packaging is great for tweens- definitely more up their alley.  I think letting your daughter see the products and be able to ask you questions is a really, really great way to get her to feel a bit more comfortable about what’s to come.  Make a first period kit for her before you have the talk and go through it with her.  I plan to have a “kit” for her that’s a fun pouch to keep in her bag with some U by Kotex products, but I’ll also have tissues (I cry a lot, maybe she will too), a small package of wipes, extra pair of underwear, empty ziploc bag, a note for the teacher, a book about puberty, and a little journal with a fun pen, in case she has things she’s wondering about and I’m not there, or needs to get some feelings out. A few “kisses” from Hershey’s may find their way into that kit, too!

Have you had the talk with your daughter?  Have you decided when your day to have the talk will be?  What concerns do you have about having this talk with your daughter?
