Child Passenger Safety Week and National Seat Check Saturday

Each year, thousands of children are tragically injured and killed in motor vehicle crashes. In fact, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children ages 1-13.

The reason? Most parents and caregivers don’t understand how car seats work and are not familiar with the milestones a child must reach before he or she can be safely transitioned to the next car seat type or seat belt. The National Highway Safety Transportation Administration is aiming to increase awareness during Child Passenger Safety Week (September 18-24) by educating parents and caregivers about this issue and motivate those who thinkthey are securing their child properly to seek help, even if they’re sure their child is correctly restrained.  Child Passenger Safety Week concludes with National Seat Check Saturday on September 24, where community events nationwide will have Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians available to provide hands-on car seat inspections and advice — for free[click to continue…]

Jimmy Dean’s “52 Ways to Deliver Great Days” (Giveaway)

Jimmy Dean is currently hosting a sweepstakes on their Facebook page called “52 Ways to Deliver Great Days,” where each week for the next year they are giving away great prizes they change the prize up on Mondays!) to  fans who answer the question of the week about how they help deliver great days to their family and friends.  This week, the prize is $250 to spend at Macy’s!

It’s simple to enter, visit the 52 ways tab on the Jimmy Dean Facbook page (you can access it here: ) and then answer the weekly question via a text entry (worth 1 sweeps entry), photo (worth 5 sweeps entries) or video (worth 10 sweeps entries) for your chance to win. They pick a winner at the end of each week!

So what do you do to help deliver great days to family and friends?  For my family, I try to make sure I’m at least pleasant (even if not fully awake) in the morning and send them off to school and work with a hug, a kiss and a full belly to keep them full until lunch.  Sometimes I stick cute notes in their lunches, sometimes a drawing or a sticker.  (This goes over way better with my kids than my husband of course!!)

One of my readers will win coupons for 3 FREE Jimmy Dean Mini’s! [click to continue…]

Schwan’s to the (dinner) rescue again! (Giveaway)

Schwan’s has saved dinner before at my house, and with the school year in full swing, we’re finding that dinner time can be a really hectic time, especially with the kids adjusting to their new schedules- they come home wiped out from school and sometimes they need mommy to cuddle instead of cooking dinner- which is perfectly ok except that I do still have to manage a dinner on the table at some point!!  So, on days like that, I love having Schwan’s in the freezer to grab and make for a quick and easy to prepare meal that will make everyone happy and allow me to be with the kids giving them the extra attention they may need.

This time around, we tried the Crispy Chicken Breast Strips – boneless and skinless chicken breast tenderloins, coated in savory seasoning and then batter fried to golden crisp.  2.5 lbs come in each resealable bag to serve 10.  This is perfect for my family of 5- that’s 2 meals of chicken for nights we have a lot going on- or 4 lunches for the kids during the week on busy days!!   We have used these in quesadillas, sandwiches, on salads and just cooked with “dipdip” on the side.  [click to continue…]

Fairy Tales Hair Care helps prevent lice- naturally

When I first heard about Fairy Tales Hair Care, a natural hair care line made for kids that uses natural ingredients to repel and remove lice, I knew I had to try it.  This year for the first time I have two of my kids in the elementary school in town.  This means double the risk for head lice exposure.

Created in 1999, Fairy Tales Hair Care is the worldwide leader in lice prevention!  Rosemary Repel products are infused with organic oils of rosemary, citronella, tea tree, lavender, anise, cinnamon, peppermint and geranium to create a barrier of protection on the hair to keep styles in and lice out.  Vitamins A, E, jojoba, aloe and panthenol are added to make hair silky soft, manageable and protected from head lice and other insects.  Perfect for everyday use.  SLS and paraben free, too.

Directions:  Shampoo and Crème Condition every few days, remember, lice like clean hair, not dirty!  Use the Rosemary Repel Leave-in Conditioning Spray EACH morning before school, camp or daycare.  Spray the back of the neck, behind ears and tops of shoulders.  Then, use the Spray & Shield just like a finishing hair spray and put the final “seal” on the hair shaft – creating a perfect barrier of protection. Keeps hair in place all day long.

I HAD lice as a child, and I remember, not fondly, the process of washing with nasty smelling shampoo, the combing, combing, combing process, and my mom doing I don’t know what to my beloved stuffed animals and bedding.  I felt dirty and gross, even though it wasn’t my fault.

The Fairy Tales products do smell more earthly than other children’s hair care products, but its a pleasant smell.  One thing I immediately noticed when I opened the bottles to smell it was that it isn’t GIRLIE- which as much as I love girlie scents, I do have a 4 year old son who would like to NOT smell like a fruit whatever when he gets out of the bath or shower.  He in particular is overjoyed at the Fairy Tales line because the packaging isn’t girlie and the scent is more neutral.  [click to continue…]

Brightbin: The New Generation of Lunchboxes (Giveaway)

Be friendly to the earth with a reusable, BPA free Brightbin lunchbox and keep your little ones happy at lunchtime!  If your kid doesn’t want their foods to touch (like me- I am the one who doesn’t want food to touch!) or simply prefers things to be in their own place, Brightbin offers a great solution to keep all of the lunch parts and pieces in one place, and one of my favorite parts is that it tucks into just about any standard sized lunchbox with room for a drink!

We have many, many reusable containers in our home- different sizes, shapes, colors, purposes- and while they are wonderful and get used regularly, they also haven’t been to school with a first grader who maybe gets a little bit distracted like her mama and might throw them out by accident.  I was glad to try the Brightbin out- it has all of the components and functions of our containers we have, along with being BPA, phalate free, etc, but there is a big difference: the Brightbin is one piece.  One unit.  She can’t really toss this one out by accident unless she’s having a particularly spacy day (as my dad used to say “Having a Brett day” haha).  One side has a large, square shaped compartment for something larger- like an entree or a sandwich- and the other side, which obviously opens separately, has some different sized compartments for the rest of the lunch items.  The compartment sizes are compatible, in my opinion, with serving size recommendations.  [click to continue…]

I discovered Fashion Playtes about 2 years ago, and was hooked.  The first time I was introduced to their site, I created an outfit for my oldest daughter on my own, to surprise her with.  As time has gone by, she’s been more and more…vocal, shall we say, about her apparel and accessory requests and has been putting more and more input into fashion decisions.  Recently, I let HER take the reins, and while I did have to keep her budget in check, she did a pretty awesome job designing herself 2 fabulous outfits!  She decided she wanted (yet another) dress to match with her beloved baby doll(s) and also a long skirt and shirt outfit.  I think she did just great- although she’d have spent at least $50 more had I let her adding more and more embellishments… [click to continue…]
