Happy Easter Xbox 360 Kinect, Kinectimals & Kinectimals Plush Giveaway 4/18

Microsoft and Xbox360 want to give YOU an Easter Surprise this year- the 4GB Xbox360 bundle with Kinect!  I’m all for non-candy Easter treats, but this one might top all other Easter surprises!!  What a great gift for parents, kids, and parents with kids to enjoy!!

The 4gb Xbox360 with Kinect offers a way to play the Kinect games using your body and not a controller.  I know my 3 year old has a hard time with controllers and coordinating his movements, this would be so much fun to play with him!

This bundle does come with Kinect! Adventures, which will allow even littler members of your family to Kinect their little hearts out!!

The X box Easter Bunny hasn’t stopped at the bundle- there’s more!!  He’s also going to send the Kinectimals game AND 2 Kinectimals Plush!!

Manhattan Toy’s Boysterous Action Figure Line (Giveaway) ends 4/30

You know, having girls and a boy means that the “lines” between boy and girl toys are often very blurry in my house.  My girls love to play with cars and trucks and my son sleeps with baby dolls.  But truth be told, when it comes to HOW they play with toys, there is a difference with  the way my son plays with his toys and how my daughters play with theirs (and yes, age is a factor of that, but I do think their sex has a bit to do with it too!).

Manhattan Toy has brought a whole new kind of action figure onto the toy playing field, and to be perfectly honest?  I LOVE the entire line.  These are action figures of the best kind- real life kids, who are “boys” boys and who are, at the end of the day, boys…not superheros, not magicians- just all sport loving kids!  In all,(so far) there are  5 of the Boysterous Boys: Slope Shreddin Sean, Goalie Gavin, Halfpipe Pete, Slapshot Sam, and Touchdown Dylan are all new to the field, but I have a feeling (and great hope) that they’ll be around a very long time.  Each of the boys comes with an accessory that goes along with his name- and the accessory is magnetic, as are their hands and feet, so even a young 3 year old can play successfully with the Boysterous crew, and not worry about dropping things as he follows his imagination.  The figures are poseable so your little guy can have tons of fun making them bend this way and that way!  There’s also no batteries required…none to replace…and no battery operated parts to break.

These toys are built for rough and tumble play, too, which is so key.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we PLAY with toys in my family.  Toys are not for looking and admiring.  They are for playing.  What fun are toys that don’t work or fall apart?  None at all.  I think my son’s favorite part of these toys is that they are moveable- lots of the action figures meant for little guys don’t seem to actually “do” much and he wants them to DO things.  The Boysterous Boys definitely DO things- lots of them!

We received 2 Boysterous Boys (Gavin Goalie and  Slope Shreddin Sean) and and the Extreme Sports Zone- which, as if it wasn’t cool enough, also doubles as storage for the figures and accessories.  How cool?!  That’s one thing that really makes me excited about this product line- aside from genuine kids being the action figures- the play set IS the storage- and it zips shut.  No lost pieces.  No separation of the “guys” from the “bin” and no big or little sister cramping someone’s style and getting into his “cool guys” as he calls them!!
The Extreme Sports Zone is a dual sided play environment that’s also storage. Show off your skate park and snow boarding tricks on the half-pipe, or send your player down the field for a long pass. Features 3 in 1 sports field setting that combines amenities needed for football, soccer and hockey play use . Also includes a half-pipe and zip and fold sides with Velcro-like closures. All the settings for the sports you love in one easy to carry bin.

I’m really excited about the Boysterous Boys. I hope they stick around.  I think they will.  They are a bit pricier than most action figures (ARV $18.00) I’ve seen for the 3 year old crowd, but I know me and I know my readers and we’ll look to find sales…They are very well constructed and as I said above, made to last- so it may be worth paying a bit more up front for a better quality toy that can DO more with your child that will last them through a few years of play.  The ages recommended on these toys are 3-8 and I can definitely see several years of play with both the figures and the sports zone!

One of my readers will win one of the Boysterous Action Figures! (Company will send one of the 5)

Great deal on American Girl Mini Dolls!

I am super excited about this- my oldest is dyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyying for an American Girl Doll but she’s not old enough (they are for ages 8+) and she is totally not ready.  That said, a friend of hers, Kathryn, has some of the American Girl Mini Dolls and adores them, and I just stumbled on them at Barnes and Noble.com – up to 42% off!!  These are dressed the same as the full sized dolls with the same features, just downsized to 6.5 inches from 18 inches.  .  They come with a little book as well!

If you want to save an EXTRA 4%, go to Ebates.com first, and sign up or login, and click through to Barnes & Noble.com from there.  That will get you 4% back!

Then, type in a search for American Girl Mini Dolls or click the link here and go directly to it.  Molly is $12.65 and Ruthie is $13.46!!  If you spend over $25.00, shipping is FREE.  That’s all before the 4% cashback through Ebates of course…At this price, you can grab a few to keep for gifts for later!! I just grabbed a Molly and  a Ruthie for my girlie’s birthday in July! :o)

Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown (Giveaway) ends 4/23

I love Peanuts specials.  Always have.  As a child, they were aired but once per year, and it was a family event at our house.  Now, of course, you can purchase them on DVD and enjoy them at anytime, which is nice- because I can share them with my kids over and over again.  There’s just *something* about the Peanuts gang that draws you in- and I’m not sure I’ve ever met anyone in my travels who cannot imitate what an adult sounds like on any Peanuts special…

Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown, is a new Peanuts special, the first new special in 5 years.  Linus is faced with a dilemma- give up his beloved blanket before his grandmother arrives for a visit, or she’ll get rid of it for him.  The Peanuts gang all try to help Linus to get rid of his blanket- with the exception of Charlie Brown, who can’t deal with seeing his friend so upset.  Lucy uses her psychiatry skills to help…and there’s more, of course…but you’ll see that as you watch the special.

Frugal Friday (on Saturday) Make your own bubbles!!

With Summer fast approaching, that means more time outside! My kids love bubbles, but we go through so much of them! Whether they use their bubble lawn mower too much or they just pour them out, we us a lot!
So, I thought it would be a cool idea to share with you how to make your own! It’s very inexpensive and super easy to do!

  • Water
  • Dishwashing liquid (if you coupon this is always free)!
  • corn syrup

Stir together 6 parts water, 2 parts Joy dishwashing liquid (this brand works the best), and 3/4 part corn syrup. Store in a covered container. **Try to recycle something to save even more money! I would say a laundry detergent bottle you just finished using!
Another money-saving tip is to find creative objects around the house to make your own wands! Have your kids get involved and search for things to use! Maybe an old wire hanger. Twist it into the shape of a wand. What are some of your ideas?

Ask an Accountant

As we all know, it’s that dreaded time of the year-Tax time! In honor of tax season, I have a new series called “Ask An Accountant”. Send in your tax questions each week to momondeals@yahoo.com and I will post the question and give an answer from an experienced accountant
How do I determine the amount of office space to use for a write off?
A home office is defined by IRS guidelines as “any area of your home used exclusively for business”. This means, it cannot serve any other purpose other than business use. If an area of you home qualifies, the easiest way to determine the area is to estimate the suare footage of the business area of the home as a percentage of the entire square footage of the home.
This is reported on Form 8829, then you are able to apply that percentage to mortgage interest, real estate taxes, hazard insurance, repairs, and utilities and get a better deduction than you would normally get from those items on schedule A. The remaining percentage of the mortgage interest & real estate tax then goes on the appropriate line on Schedule A.
Here is an example: Your home is 1,000 sqaure feet and your home office is 100 square feet. Therefore your business percentage is 10%. You would then apply the 10% to your mortgage interest, real estate taxes, hazard insurance, repairs, and utilities. Your remaining percentage of mortgage interest and real estate tax would be 90% and would go on your scedule A.
