Poise Microliners and light bladder leakage

This post brought to you by Poise at Walmart. All opinions are 100% mine.

I am really happy I was asked to participate in this campaign. I mean, I laugh a lot.  As often as possible, in fact.  Laughing generally leads to leakage, so having some protection on that front is a very wonderful thing.  Never mind when I'm sneezing, but that's a whole different complaint and story to share on a different day. Leakage isn't something anyone ever wants to deal with, so having products like these microliners to *ahem* soak up evidence is a good thing.  Having super absorbant material (SAM) gives women (like me!) confidence to go about their day without worrying about a little LBL getting in the way.

The reason I like these liners is that they are SUPER discreet.  Smaller than a pantyliner, which really isn't what I need with the leakage issue, and also? The wrapper isn't crinkly.Nothing screams HEY I'm using feminine products more than crinkly wrappers (seriously, and I'm talking to all of the companies who make things for ladies to use, can we work on this? PLEASE?)

Mostly, I like the microliners with SAM (remember, I told you SAM is my new BFF a few weeks ago!) because they really hold up to liquids. At an afforable price.  Too often it seems like you get performance or a good price on something, but not always BOTH. Check out Poise at Walmart for the full line.  I'm sure there's a product to meet your needs :)

Chickpea Recipe: Spicy Roasted Chickpeas

My oldest is a vegetarian now, and we’re always looking for more ways to get protein in her diet.  We decided to give some roasted chickpeas a try, since they are high in protein (and fiber, bonus!) and hoped that they’d make a filling snack for her belly.  We’re very pleased with the result and all of us LOVE these – with the exception of the littlest Martin, but she wants them less spicy. Can’t please everyone, I guess! I guess we have to make a delicious roasted chickpea recipe that isn’t spicy for her next!

Spicy Roasted Chickpeas

2 15 oz cans chickpeas, rinsed and drained

2 tsp chili powder

1 tsp cayenne pepper flakes

1/4  c extra virgin olive oil

Preheat oven to 450

While oven is preheating, rinse, drain and pat dry your chickpeas.

In medium mixing bowl, toss the chickpeas with the spices

Once oven is at 450, pour your oil into a shallow baking pan.  Warm for about 3 minutes

Carefully remove pan from oven, add chickpeas in a single layer to the pan (remember, the oil is hot!)

Bake for about 10-15 minutes

We let ours rest on a paper towel to absorb some of the oil for a few minutes

Enjoy warm or allow to cool.

Store in airtight container for up to 1 week.

Have you made roasted chickpeas before?

10 Easy Weeknight Meals

Sometimes it’s easy for the day to race by, whether it’s because you’ve had a hectic day at the office, the kid’s busy schedules or you’re just taking time for yourself. Dinners aren’t always planned and at the end of the day, it can be hard to gain motivation to cook at all, let alone a big extravagant dinner. Eating out is always an option, but it’s costly and usually not very healthy.

Don’t worry though, because there are other options! This list is composed of some super easy weeknight dinners that you can throw together in minutes, and be eating in less than an hour! Check them out and give them a go. There’s even a frozen pizza that requires no effort, which is absolutely amazing after a long day when you just want some food in your stomach without putting in the work.

10 Easy Weeknight Meals

1.  Ristorante Frozen Pizza

We love our pizza around here.  Even if the kids aren’t up for some more gourmet toppings, we are… and Ristorante is our go-to brand for frozen pizza because of the delectable toppings and quality ingredients they use.  Lucky for us, all three of our kids have a pretty good palate and have loved each of the Ristorante varieties we’ve had for dinner.  Paired with a nice salad, this is one of the fastest dinners that everyone in the house can enjoy!

To see if Ristorante pizzas are available near you, check out the Store Locator. Don’t see Ristorante in your supermarket? You can put in a request with the store manager!

2. 15 Minute White Chicken Chili

White chicken chili is my personal favorite kind of chili. I love beans so I’m always happy to enjoy a bowl of chili, but chicken is my favorite meat and I’m always up for a change of pace from the “norm” of our menu items.

3. Gluten Free Crab Cakes

With so many folks living a gluten free lifestyle, we’re making our own effort to build up a repertoire of gluten free menu options so that we can be sure to please any of our guests.  My husband LOVES to go crabbing and often has  bits of crab leftover after he enjoys his meal. One of his favorite things I make are the crab cakes using the leftover crab meat. Spoiled? Maybe. But this one’s easy to change up to make it gluten free and we’ll be trying this recipe very soon.  Quick and easy, just how we like our dinners!

4. Spinach Artichoke Spaghetti Squash

This recipe’s in honor of my friend Ally.  She’s the first who introduced me to the goodness of spinach and artichoke together, and now I’ve found a quick and easy meal idea combining those two ingredients.  Ally, you’re welcome, love!

5. Chicken Spaghetti Casserole

You can totally speed this up using all leftovers.  I do my best to cook once and eat twice whenever possible, so when we cook chicken? I make extra.  When I make pasta? I cook extra.  Makes other meals even easier!

6. Ham and Cheese Quesadillas

Quesadillas are great because they can so easily be transported for a picnic or meal on the go. I’ve lost count of how many nights we have had dinner on a ballfield in the past few months and I’m always on the lookout for new ideas that we can bring with us!

7. Sloppy Joes

Sloppy Joes are one of my all time favorite comfort foods. I wish my husband liked them more, but the kids and I all love them so he (sad for him) gets outvoted and they end up in the menu rotation!

8. Throw Together Black Bean Burgers

This black bean burger recipe is one I’ve been anxious to try. My oldest stopped eating meat several months ago and seems to think she can live on boxed meat-replacment products. Not the healthiest option for sure, and not one I want her to continue doing.  Black beans are SO good for you, and since we all like them, why not make our own burgers?

9. Quick and Easy Pesto Quinoa

A recipe to use the basil from the garden?  Yes, please!!  This would be great on its own but would also pair nicely with the Pizza Quattro Formaggi or Pizza Funghi.

10. Green Chile Stuffed Burgers

green-chile-burgers-1-800We love burgers, but really, I’m getting tired of plain old burgers.  My goal is trying a new kind of burger at least 5 times this summer.

Small living room furniture challenges

We have a small living room with some big challenges in it.  So many times, we’ve grabbed magazines or searched online for help decorating “difficult” spaces or small spaces and what we find is – well, not the same as our definition of small. It’s frustrating.  We have my parents’ old (they’d had it for 2-3 years before my mom died and dad gave it to us) living room furniture, and while it’s great furniture, super comfortable and excellent quality, it’s way too big for the room and it’s just. not.working.

Here are some photos so you can see just what our obstacles are.  Doorways, windows, radiators and a fireplace with surrounding gate all team up to give me a headache when trying to make something work in this room! As it is now, all 5 of us can’t sit together and watch a movie together unless we move furniture around or pile on top of one another.

This is the first doorway into the living room.  Notice how the couch is at the edge of the doorway.  The fish tank may or may not stay where it is.

That’s the one wall we have that’s kind of usable.  See how big the couch is?  It’s enormous for the room.  (Also super comfortable).

The back of the room is the “play area” — you can see the “bumpy floor” as we call it and the 923432432 Lego blocks and creations around.  Also the fireplace gate.  There’s just no space for the pieces we have and I’m ready for something more functional and also more deliberate.

Here’s the view from the bumpy floor.  See how messy the room is?  We’re human! My house is NOT perfect.  You can also see just how the furniture does not fit in the space and how much we need help.

The nice folks at Raymour & Flanigan  agreed that our small living room was a challenge, and gave us a really big surprise.  They came up with not one, not two but 3 different options for the space! There IS hope for small living room furniture challenge rooms like our own!

Option 1:Option 2 Ashton

Option 1 Photo (Note the blue tape- those are from our measurements of our living room). This option is lovely but maybe too  formal for our house with 3 little ones running around.

Option 2 Ashton Photo A

Option 2:

Option 3 Meyer Choice BoardI love the pieces in this layout.  The colors and lines are so pretty!

Option 3:

Option 1 Artemis IIOption 3 Photo:

Option 1 Artemis II Photo A

So I am curious- which of the 3 concepts would you choose for this space?  Which do you think we’re going to go by?

Many, many thanks to Raymour & Flanigan for sponsoring today’s post and the gift card to make our new living room possible.  We’ll be sharing the “after” in a few weeks!

How to combat summer learning loss #zoobeanexpert

Have you ever taken a vacation from work or a hobby, and then you came back and your brain drew a blank at the most simplest of tasks? It’s normal for our minds to need to adjust, and get back in the swing of things. Children go through this exact same experience during the summer months. It’s called summer slide, summer learning loss….there’s a few different names for it.

The difference?

Usually as an adult vacations are shorter, and our tasks have already been pretty well engrained in us beforehand. Children, however, are constantly learning new things at a very quick rate, and sometimes aren’t afforded the time they need to catch back up. Academically, this is known as summer learning loss, and it could cause them to follow behind in classes, and makes it necessary to repeat in more detail lessons that were already previously learned.

Don’t worry, there’s a solution!

Zoobean provides a service called Zoobean Expert that works hard to combat summer learning loss. The key to preventing summer learning loss is to keep your child’s mind engaged in educational activites. Zoobean helps you to do just that by providing you, the parent, the tools that you need to monitor, track, and implement these activities.

How Zoobean Expert works:

Sign up, build a child’s profile.

Get your dashboard, aka SmartList, where recommendations and reading guides will be added

Connect with your personal expert to refine your child’s interests and reading level or to just ask questions related to building your child’s literacy

Use Kits for deep dives into topics like “Exploring Rainbows” or “Loving Yourself.” Search books and apps in a library of selections curated by experts and cataloged using over 1,400 tags

For only $25 a year – less than a latte each month, you can give your child a head start for the new year! Once your personal expert gets in touch with you to gather info about your child’s interests and reading level, they’ll begin offering recommendations to your child’s “smartlist”. There are unlimited kits created by Zoobean experts (who are also educators and librarians), and constructed specifically to help your child learn and grow. The topics range from traditional learning subjects, to life subjects like “Dealing with Divorce”.

Kits have different sections that introduce the curator of the kit, description of the topic/theme of the kit, book resources, app and tech resources, as well as other resources and recommendations (like learning activities, for example). The Gardening Kit has a video included about planting seeds.

After you’ve added some Kits to “My SmartList,” Zoobean curators will make a recommendation for a book and app to go along with the kit. Easy, and helpful. Now we will have some great ideas for library and book store visits…or birthday gifts for our little nature lover!

I tried to search for a Kit about Birds because my littlest one loves birds but there isn’t one (yet)- and I did notice a $10 fee to request a custom kit (although when you do this, they give you 50% off an order of the kit, which would be a great birthday surprise for her birthday in August).

Give your child the gift of reading today! Use EXPERTMAMALOVE for $10 off an Expert membership and HOMEMAMALOVE for 20% off the home delivery service.

Moonshine BBQ makes me smile. #OutbackBestMates

I have a confession to make.  Recently, I took my family to Outback Steakhouse for a fun family night (the nice folks from our local Outback invited us). Now, I knew all about the Moonshine BBQ menu items because I had sampled them in April at the Bloomin’ Brands headquarters…but I hadn’t been able to talk about it with anyone until quite recently. Finally my family could understand and share with me in the Moonshine BBQ sauce that makes you want to lick the plate or bowl of whatever you are eating.

Outback_Menu_Top copy

We started out with 2 Aussie-tizers- Seared Ahi Tuna for my 6 year old son (he loves it with the wasabi!)…

and Moonshine BBQ Wood-Fire Grilled Wings.

There was nothing left on either platter.  NOTHING.  I forgot to get a picture, too.  Boo, on me.

As the fam was deciding what to eat for their main meals, I encouraged my husband to get something from the Moonshine menu. Not because I wanted to push the new items, but because I knew he LOVED the sauce like me and wanted him to taste it on some other tasty foods in addition to the wings.

Naturally, he listened to his smart wife and got the Combo Platter. Even my son listened and asked for his meal to come with Moonshine BBQ on his ribs.

I realized after that I probably should have focused on NOT mashed potatoes, but if you have ever tasted the taters at Outback Steakhouse, you totally understand why they were front and center here.  They are amazing paired with the Moonshine BBQ sauce.

While hubby was happily enjoying his ribs, steak and chicken, and glaring at me when I stole little bites of his mashed potatoes, I was excited to have my Moonshine BBQ  salad with grilled chicken breast. (I almost always seem to order salads with chicken when we’re out to dinner).

Halfway through, we swapped plates. There was no way I could eat that much salad, especially not after 2 amazing Aussie-tizers and half of hubby’s mashed potatoes.  No way!  We were both happy to try so many of the menu items. I kept telling him “I told you so!” when he liked something on his plate or mine.

The kiddos were oh so very happy to have some of the mini milkshakes I’d been telling them about since my trip in April.

We don’t normally do milkshakes with dinner- but really, if and when we do, the kids share one because the portions are HUGE.  They were over the moon excited to have their OWN milkshakes, although my littlest one was (just like her mama) wanting to bring the milkshake glass home with us.

My oldest has become a vegetarian in recent months and as such, didn’t really get to have a full sense of the Moonshine BBQ sauce.  She did get to taste some, but she was happy to enjoy her mac and cheese with some fruit on the side. The sauce has a little too much kick for my 4 year old so she went with a milder choice for her dinner. (The boys were quite happy that this meant more for them!)

We are having a date night this week- I’ve already been promised we can eat at Outback for some more of Moonshine BBQ!  YUM!

The first of its kind Moonshine BBQ menu includes:

  • Sirloin with Moonshine BBQ Bacon Wrapped Shrimp – Outback’s signature sirloin with Moonshine BBQ Bacon wrapped shrimp and your choice of one freshly made side
  • Moonshine BBQ Ribs – each succulent rack is smoked, wood-fire grilled and brushed with Moonshine BBQ sauce, served with Aussie Fries
  • Moonshine BBQ Wood-Fire Grilled Wings – tossed with our chef-inspired Moonshine BBQ Sauce and served with ranch dressing
  • Try all three Moonshine cocktails including the Huckleberry Hooch and Watermelon Hunch Punch, made with Ole Smoky® Blackberry Moonshine™ and Just Peachee made with Georgia Moon® Peach Moonshine

Additional menu items to hit the sauce include the Moonshine BBQ Combo Platter, complete with Moonshine BBQ Bacon Wrapped Shrimp, 1/3 order of Moonshine BBQ Ribs and Grilled Chicken on the Barbie, the Double Moonshine Burger and Moonshine BBQ Chopped Salad. Of course, no menu is complete without dessert and what better way to finish off a Moonshine BBQ meal than with Outback’s new Skillet Apple Pie, made with warm apples and cinnamon baked in a flakey crust, topped with Blue Bell® Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream.

In addition to the nationwide sampling event, Outback is making it easy for everyone to get their ‘shine on with the Moonshine Name Generator at www.Outback.com/Name. With a few simple clicks, fans can determine their Moonshiner name and determine if they are a “Rebel,” “Outlaw” or “Maverick.”  Last but not least, guests can learn the “true” secret behind why Outback’s Moonshine BBQ sauce is so dang good by visiting www.Outback.com/Shine.

Have you been to Outback lately? Have you tried the Moonshine BBQ?

How to Make Business Cards in PicMonkey

I don’t know about you but I am very tired of paying for a design for my business cards.  I wanted to learn how to make  business cards in PicMonkey and my friend Sadie agreed to show me. :) It’s really not hard!

How to Make Business Cards in PicMonkey

The process of making business cards in PicMonkey is suuuper simple. It’s just a few basic steps, and then you play around with different fonts and such until you get them exactly how you want them. First, you need to sign up for PicMonkey if you haven’t already. It’s a few bucks a month, and totally worth it.

How to Make Business Cards in PicMonkey

To start, you’ll need to upload custom fonts to PicMonkey so you are using the ones that match your blog. Though I didn’t use the same exact fonts on my cards that I do on my blog, I used ones that I thought complimented each other. It’s totally up to you on how you do stuff! Adding fonts to PicMonkey is pretty easy- you  just need to download the fonts you like from sites, install them on your computer, then reboot and log back in.  You’ll see your pretty new fonts and be able to use them!

How to Make Business Cards in PicMonkey

After you’ve decided on your fonts (or gotten distracted and downloaded 100 of them), restart your computer and log into PicMonkey. Choose “design”, then you’ll choose your dimensions.

Or, you can download a business card template for free. You can choose a colored background if you are in the “design” section. If not, just use a rectangle overlay to choose a color. I prefer white.

How to Make Business Cards in PicMonkey

Go to overlays (the butterfly button), and upload your header and/or headshot. I really like it when I see business cards with a photo on them, because it’s easier for me to remember when I meet someone!

How to Make Business Cards in PicMonkey

Add your information below the header. If you don’t have a header, just use a custom font to type your name, blog name, or business name.

Some things that are important to include:

— first and last name
— blog and/or business name
— email address
— social media handles
— website address
— any other info you’d like people to know

Make Business Cards in PicMonkey

I’d probably make these double-sided and have some more information about myself on the back. Think of it as a mini “about me” page.
Check out how to make birthday invitations in PicMonkey too!

Credit monitoring is not proactive identity theft protection #lifelocksafety

Have you ever been in a fender bender? If so, you know the headache and inconvenience it causes. What if you got in a fender bender (one not your fault), and found out afterwards that the insurance policy you had been paying for each month didn’t actually cover anything.?! Your vehicle would not be fixed. Chances are you’d be upset, frustrated, and feel like you were mislead. After dealing with your feelings, you’d then have to either come out of pocket to have your vehicle fixed, or live with the ugly damage it caused. The thing is, this is the exact scenario that could happen…. with your credit.

Most Americans are aware of importance of our credit score in today’s society. It’s everything. Credit score can be used to determine a number of things; your trustworthiness, your grasp handling responsibility, your maturity and more. It can be used to determine financial worthiness, employment, and more. Weigh this next to the threat of identity theft in our society, and you see why it’s so important to protect it.

How does this tie into car insurance? It’s the same concept. Credit monitoring is great. It alerts you to changes in your credit score, and offers suggestions on maintaining and/or improving your credit score. Things are swell. Until… your identity is stolen. At that point, you will quickly learn; credit monitoring is not the same as identity theft protection.

Identity theft protection doesn’t only monitor. It stands at the front lines and actively fights for your identity. You have the peace of mind that even if your identity is stolen; you STILL don’t have to bat an eye. LifeLock provides you reassurance, peace of mind, and a solid support system to help you keep your identity yours, and to keep you fully covered.

Use 10% off promo code “LifeLockSafety” at the Lifelock site.

Do you Advertisementuse identity theft protection?
