40 Weeks movie follows 15 moms through pregnancy #40WeeksMovie

Being pregnant is one of the coolest, weirdest, amazing, awe inspiring, scary, blissful, terrifying things that a human being can experience. It’s like nothing else and really, there isn’t much that can prepare you for it.  When you think about it, it SHOULD be that way.  We are growing tiny human beings, after all!  I’ve been pregnant 5 times, officially.  I have 3 children who are now 9, 7 and 5.  I’ve had 2 “on the record” miscarriages, and had about 10 other chemical pregnancies- enough to yield a positive pregnancy test only to have the cycle end a few days late in heartbreak.

Being pregnant, though, what an experience.  Both for the woman doing the actual baby growing and for those around her. The emotions, the hormones, the effect of the hormones on the emotions, the physical changes, the comfort, the cravings, the discomfort, the tests, the appointments, the anticipation, the movement, the planning, the excitement… it’s a wild ride.

I can honestly say I LOVED being pregnant overall but there were some parts that were just not fun. Once that little baby is conceived, life as you know it is changed forever.  It’s not a small thing. For good (and for bad), you’ve just taken a turn from the road your life was on. Navigating it, well, that can be hard.  There are so many myths and wives tales and superstitions and books and experts and it’s a lot to digest (if you can digest, maybe you get morning sickness around the clock like I did for many months).

I spent HOURS watching a baby story (or whatever it was called) on TV when I was pregnant with Bachelorette #1.  I didn’t have quite as much time to do so when I was pregnant with our little guy, and definitely zero time (I’m not sure it was sitll airing by 2009 when I was pregnant) with Bachelorette #2.  It helped, a little, in my head, to see other couples experiences.  But really, it wasn’t- it was a quick snapshot of the end of a pregnancy. I always wanted to know about the WHOLE experience of others. Which is what brings me to the 40 Weeks Movie.  There are others who feel the same way I do.  Specifically, Christopher Henze and Dominique Debroux, husband and wife team and the creative minds behind Big Belli LLC, which produced the 40 Weeks Movie. 40 Week sis for moms AND dads, and it shares families’ experiences on the journey to parenthood.  It’s awesome. It’s like the folks at Big Belli took notes when I was awake and not sleeping during pregnancies about wanting to know for real what it was like for other people and made it into a film.

Henze, director, and Debroux, producer, created 40 Weeks to be a vehicle to offer emotional and informational support to pregnant women as well as present them with trusted products they will need.
40 Weeks is made for both moms and dads — presenting a beautiful palette of families’ experiences on their journey into parenthood. In the film, universal milestones of pregnancy are presented hand in hand with the personal experiences of the film’s generous and amazing expectant couples. Their diverse backgrounds will resonate with audiences, reassuring any mom-to-be that she is not alone.
To ensure that all health care information in the movie is accurate and current, 40 Weeks’ key partners include the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, the world’s largest nursing authority dedicated to the health of women and babies, HealthyWomen.org, the nation’s leading independent health information source for women, and the March of Dimes, the most respected non-profit organization dedicated to helping moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.
Henze assembled a group of talented and respected professionals to film, score, edit and craft the movie in an intimate and personal manner. Executive producer Kurt Engfehr (“Bowling for Columbine”, “Fahrenheit 9/11”, “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead”), casting director Lisa Singer (“The Bachelorette”, “Queer Eye”), and editor April Merl (“2012: A Time for change,” “The Yes Men Fix the World”) join Henze in telling this story.
Kate Rolston, a 15-year veteran of the mom and baby world with her brand, Real Savvy Moms, also serves as executive producer.

Five of the greatest love movies of all time

Tears streaming, heart beating faster and faster, completely engaged and oblivious to everything going on around you. To me, that’s what makes a good love story! When the plot is so good that you forget it’s a movie, and you feel like you’re right there. It’s like riding a rollercoaster of emotion as you sit through the scenes and match the energy of the characters with your own.

While there are many love movies that I could say I enjoyed, and found touching….there are only a few great love movies I can say that I LOVED. Ironically, those are usually the ones that left me in tears at the end, whether from happiness or sadness! Or both, many times.

Five of the greatest love movies of all time

The Fault in Our Stars

Okay, this book (movie will too) made me cry too (noticing a trend here?). It also made me feel encouraged, motivated, and determined. This is more than a love movie, but a movie about character and never giving up. I highly recommend the book and cannot wait to see the movie.  Just be sure you have plenty of tissues. I’ve read the book twice in as many weeks already.

The Fault in Our Stars actually isn’t even OUT in theaters yet, but I’ll be going to see it SOON. I can’t wait. I’ll be there with tissues and no mascara on. Maybe a hat. Dark glasses? It’s such a beautiful story so powerfully written, I can’t wait to see how the movie version is!

Hazel and Gus are two extraordinary teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them — and us – on an unforgettable journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous, given that they m et and fell in love at a cancer support group. THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, based upon the number-one bestselling novel by John Green, explores the funny, thrilling and tragic business of being alive and in love.

 Titanic

I’ll admit it, I still cry every time I watch this.  The mixture of tragedy and love despite the obstacle of social prejudice because of class was truly touching. This story truly touches my heart.titanic-movie

A seventeen-year-old aristocrat, expecting to be married to a rich claimant by her mother, falls in love with a kind but poor artist aboard the luxurious, ill-fated R.M.S. Titanic.

The Notebook

Another love story that causes my eyes to water.  To see young love that is so strong and adamant is such a beautiful thing. I love the elements of surprise as you push through the plot right along with the characters, watching the dramatic moments unfold.

Notebook

A poor and passionate young man falls in love with a rich young woman and gives her a sense of freedom. They soon are separated by their social differences.

Dear John

The appeal of this movie can be summed up into two words: Channing Tatum! A delightful, and touching adventure. This is a great choice if you’re looking for an awesome love movie.

dear john

A romantic drama about a soldier who falls for a conservative college student while he’s home on leave.

Love Actually

While most of the love movies here are mushy, love movies can also be highly comical! Love actually is a prime example! Be ready to laugh yourself to tears with this one (the always end up with tears either way, don’t they?).

love-actually

Follows the lives of eight very different couples in dealing with their love lives in various loosely interrelated tales all set during a frantic month before Christmas in London, England.

Now that you’ve got a great list of love movies, be sure to check these out yourself! Be sure to leave your favorite in the comments below!

The Nut Job Healthy Trail Mix Recipe #TheNutJob #giveaway

This healthy trail mix recipe post is brought to you  by our friends at The Nut Job.

The-Nut-Job-movie-poster

The Nut Job, featuring  WILL ARNETT, BRENDAN FRASER with LIAM NEESON and KATHERINE HEIGL, opens IN THEATERS JANUARY 17.  We’re very excited to see this new animated movie as a family!  It looks funny but also has lots of action sequence and more subtle humor for the adults too :) We can’t wait to see MORE of it!

There’s a whole lot of nut-eating critters in the city and when Surly, a spunky little squirrel, goes to sneak some free nuts from a nut cart in the park…and gets himself banished from said park…well, things go haywire and mayhem ensues.  Panicked about their food source, the critters find a food source (Maury’s Nut Store) that’s armed against critters like themselves and, much like the Italian Job movie, there’s a very elaborate (and hilarious) plot to rid the Maury’s of their nuts and save the critters of the city.

To get MY kids even more excited to see this film, aside from the viewing of the trailer approximately 3234 times already, we decided to come up with a Healthy Trail Mix Recipe that’s sure to please the whole family and add to The Nut Job excitement in the house!

5 Reasons you MUST get Despicable Me 2 on DVD, BluRay or Combo Pack

My whole family is enamored with Minions. It started with Despicable Me, and when we saw Despicable Me 2 in the theaters, well, we laughed until our sides hurt.  Now that the new film is available for purchase, we’ll be able to watch and watch it again and again. I actually took one of the toy minions we have to Seattle with me- he even had his own hashtag, #MicrosoftMinion!  The kids were going to miss me, so I took something with me that they’d love to see and snapped pics everywhere “we” went.  He’s a well traveled minion, that’s for sure. despicableme2-bluray-dvd-combopack

Reason #1

The Minions.  Many of us fell in love with the banana loving, raspberry blowing Minions in the original Despicable Me movie.  This time, they are a big part of the movie, and make it  even MORE hilarious!

Reason #2

Gru likes a lady.  He’s a billion kinds of awkward but you want him to have a happy ending.  It’s cute, and it’s funny.

Reason #3

Gru gets to deal with boys around his daughters

Reason #4

The “Puppy” Mini Movie.

Reason #5

I haven’t met anyone at all who hasn’t laughed and laughed through this movie.

Reason #6

The girl gets the guy.  The guy gets the girl.  Call me cliche but I love happy endings.  The guy no one thought was lovable. :)

As a bonus?  Get the Despicable Me 2 Operation Game.  It’s the same Operation fun we all had as kids, but it’s done Minion style.  We love it.  (And as an aside, our kittens ate the fart-blaster piece from it, so I had to call Hasbro and politely ask them if they could maybe replace our Fart Blaster.  Which made the customer service rep AND me giggle a lot. She did send it).

Have you picked up your copy of Despicable Me 2 yet? There are some fabulous sales around – including 43% off at Amazon right now!

Monsters University Disney Infinity Prize Pack #Giveaway

Monsters University came out on BluRay and DVD earlier this week.  We love it.  But we also all love Monsters Inc. and always will.  After all, it’s where we first met Mike and Sully and the gang…. only now, we get to see how their friendship began…along with a pig ride, lots of laughs, and many, many bumps along the way. This is one of the only Disney and/or Pixar movies I’ve EVER seen that didn’t make me cry- I’m sappy, of course, but Monsters University just had TOO much funny to get me crying!

MonstersUniversity1

We can’t get enough of Mike and Sully and chances are, you’ll feel the same way once you see the new movie.  Plus, the holidays are coming fast and furious!!  Disney Infinity is a gift the whole family can enjoy :)

Delivery Man starring Vince Vaughn (Trailer inside!)

I got to catch a sneak peek at Delivery Man, coming in theaters on November 22.  I can’t wait to see it- the more I see of Vince Vaughn, the more I love him, and this movie is promising more of the hilarity and fun that he always comes through with.  This time around he plays an  underachiever looking for his purpose in life, when he finds out he’s fathered 533 children through anonymous donations to a fertility clinic 20 years ago. Now he must decide whether or not to come forward when 142 of them want to meet their biological father…and now YOU can see the same sneak peek I did, right here!

delivery man november 22

While the concept of the film is amusing, it’s also a really heartwarming look at what it means to be a family — no matter how unconventional. The definition of family has evolved and, as seen in the film, can come in all shapes and sizes.

My family comes in all shapes and sizes. I’m the youngest of 8 kids- I have one brother who has the same mother AND father as I do.  I have 2 more brothers with the same father, different mothers, although their mother is quite a lovely woman and I adore her.  I also have a brother and three sisters from my dad, and while their mom was alive, she was very much a part of my family.  It’s crazy and weird and I wouldn’t have it any other way- it’s made me who I am, quirks and all.  I think that’s why this film drew me in so much- my own family history is so off that I wanted to know more!

Check out the trailer being released RIGHT NOW and only seen on my site here- oh…well, and 532 other blogs.  Only on ours.  We’re like a trailer family, of sorts…sharing this.

Make it a whole theme gift/weekend with a cool Superman or Man of Steel Tshirt or Hat, and if your man is up for it, even a SuperDad cape! If he’s not a wear-it-on-his-person kind of guy, get him a cool water bottle or travel mug. A new phone case is always appreciated and usable!

For the new dad- a fun “Super Dad” mug would be perfect, maybe filled with some coffee candies to keep him awake?!
Make a “Super” breakfast in bed (or special lunch) and cut veggies, fruits, cheese and sandwiches into the Superman symbol, or other known superhero symbols. How cool would a lightning bolt piece of cheese be to brighten up that breakfast in bad? That’s a fun way to say Dad, you’re super to us!
