Wreck it Ralph is now available in stores! (Fun games and activities inside plus Hidden Mickeys!)

WreckItRalph-Box-Art-660x805
My whole family LOVES Wreck It Ralph.  There’s so much TO love.  There’s sweet, there’s funny, there’s action, there’s a love story…the underdog story, the surprise twist…and…my favorite…Sour Bill.  I think he’s one of my favorite Disney characters, ever! Now that Wreck it Ralph is out for purchase, we can watch again, and again, and then again.

kids with ralph and vanellopeAll 3 kids insisted we wait 45 minutes in line to meet Ralph and Vanellope.  They were not willing to wait that long to meet Mickey Mouse.  That’s got to speak volumes.
Haven’t hear about Ralph? He’s the “bad guy” in the arcade game “Fix it Felix” who wants to be the hero and have the accolades that Felix Jr. has. When the folks in his game don’t want to see him as anything but the bad guy, Ralph leads his game and sets out to find a way to win a medal, so that the folks in his game will recognize him and see him as more than the bad guy. Of course, Ralph gets into situations and learns a whole lot of lessons along the way. He also meats some hilarious characters from all kinds of arcade games who interact in really neat ways- there’s love, there’s action and there’s a whole lot of funny (see above reference to Sour Bill). Most of all, there’s Vanellope von Sweetz, a spunky, sassy little “glitch” in the Sugar Rush Candy game at the arcade where Ralph ultimately lands. Their unlikely friendship tugs at your heartstrings and their joined sense of being outcast is just so sweet, and sets such a stage for a great story line.

I didn’t even realize until I was grabbing the box art for this post that there are Hidden Mickeys in this movie- now we have to watch it again to find them! I should know better by now and always look for those hidden Mickeys…

Peter Pan Diamond Edition on Blu-ray Combo Pack February 5 and FREE Printables!

peter panFamily movie night this week was a viewing of Peter Pan on Blu-ray.  My kids haven’t ever seen the movie, but given our recent trip to Disney World and their love for meeting Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Captain Hook and adoring the Peter Pan ride at the Magic Kingdom, I knew it would be a well-received movie for all five of us to enjoy. I haven’t seen this movie- well, I’m not sure I’d ever seen the movie in it’s entirety-I’ve seen the musical on Broadway as a kid several times and always loved it.

kids with peter pankids with tinkerbell
My kids were riveted. All three of them.  I guess they were enamored with seeing some of their new Disney friends being on the screen- although none of them understood why Tinkerbell didn’t speak in the movie, since she was very animated and very talkative in person.  I’d forgotten how parts of the story went, especially with the Indians, but the kids were fine with it.  They found the same things funny that I always have – and maybe even more!

The Diamond Edition is definitely worth purchasing- you even get a free storybook app.  We have a portable DVD player and when we get the combo packs, I always tuck the DVD into the case for the portable player and keep the blu-ray in the living room.  That way, we’re never stuck without a kid-friendly movie if we’re travelling long distance.  The digital restoration is really well done- technology is so amazing- this film is 60 years old now!

Just Dance Disney Party rocks! #JDDisney

Thank you to Ubisoft for sponsoring this post. Please click here to learn more about Ubisoft. I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective. #UbiChamps

My kids are all about Disney.  It’s one of the few channels the kids watch, and can all enjoy together.  I’ve caught my husband watching some of the shows when the kids are in bed.  (I’ve done the same, but it seems funnier when it’s him…)  Just Dance Disney Party brings dozens of the kids’ favorite songs from Disney right into our living room- through our XBOX Kinect– along with cool dance moves.  We may not have the moves like the stars but we sure love to fake it!

We have had so much fun with this- and the kids are kind of excited to have some of their pals over when it’s vacation time to see what they think, too.  I see many many hours of dance time coming our way!

This is one of the *few* video games that I believe truly is for the whole family– any age.  If you aren’t into the pop/modern music, there’s always Disney classics, and you’ll be hard pressed to find someone that isn’t a fan of at least one song in the game!  Family get togethers will never be the same!  I was really excited to find that there’s stuff on here from Mary Poppins.  It’s one of my all time most favorite movies and makes me so happy when I see or hear anything relating to it!

One thing I like the most about the XBOX Kinect games- you have to get up and MOVE.  This is not a game to sit on your keester and be a couch potato.  You are moving and shaking and if you are an adult, probably sweating- it’s a great workout that includes the kids, and you’ll laugh and sing right along with it.  It’s fitness and it’s FUN.  Have you played?

Wreck-It Ralph from Disney

Wreck-It Ralph from Disney Animation Studios Animation Comedy Movie   Do you want to know how to make two techie adults and a 7 year old, self-proclaimed, “gamer” happy?  Take them to a movie about a retro arcade game character.  We heard about Wreck-It Ralph  at least a year ago and have been awaiting it's November 2, 2012, release on the big screen.

We went to see Wreck-It Ralph on Tuesday and we all loved it.  My 7 year old has seen all the ads on TV and read the book so he was super excited to see parts he knew.  He was engrossed then entire time.  Wreck-It Ralph had the right balance of comedy, adventure and a cute story line.  This is a movie we will purchase on DVD and watch it many more times.  For the adults, there are some truly hilarious retro arcade game references (Pacman Q*bert, and more)  and enough play on words to keep us engaged and laughing.

Wreck-It Ralph has likeable characters for both boys and girls.  Ralph is the “bad guy” but is also a big teddy bear.  Vaneloppe, the sweet little girl, is a tough cookie and gives Ralph a run for his money.  The movie is rated PG for some rude humor and mild/action violence.  Wreck-It Ralph is a fun family movie that you all should check out.

About Wreck-It Ralph

From Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore comes “Wreck-It Ralph,” a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping adventure. For decades, Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) has been overshadowed by Fix-It Felix, Jr. (voice of Jack McBrayer), the good-guy star of their game who always gets to save the day. Tired of playing the role of a bad guy, Ralph takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a journey across the arcade through multiple generations of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.

On his quest, Ralph meets tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch) from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty, and feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) from the candy-coated cart racing game, Sugar Rush, who may just be his first real friend. But everything changes when a deadly enemy is unleashed, threatening the entire arcade and Vanellope herself. Ralph finally gets his chance to save the day—but can he do it in time? “Wreck-It Ralph” crashes onto the big screen on November 2, 2012, in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

Disney’s The Great Mouse Detective

The Great Mouse Detective is one of my all time favorite Disney Movies. I was so thrilled to discover that it was going to be released on blue ray and DVD this month. It was originally released in 1986 and I can vividly remember going to the movie theater to see it. This lesser known disney film has always been special to me. No, it isn’t your mainstream Disney Princess flick, but an endearing tale of adventure. These lesser known Disney films have such character. I actually prefer them. This Sherlock Holmes and Watson type movie is sure the thrill and captivate your little ones. The movie is set in 1897 London and follows the plight of little Olivia, a Scottish mouse whose father has been kidnapped by a crippled bat. Olivia enlists the help of Basil of Baker Street and the adventure begins. Through many twists and turns you will be captivated by this tale. My 2 boys absolutely loved this cartoon movie. We all sat down to watch it on a rainy fall afternoon with a big bowl of popcorn. Perfection! This would be a fabulous little gift for Halloween. http://www.totaleclips.com/player/Splash.aspx?custid=907&playerid=69&bitrateid=461&formatid=20&clipid=e64610&affiliateid=-1   The 2 disc blue ray/dvd pack retails for $19.96. You can purchase the Great Mouse Detective here on Amazon.   “A sample of this product was provided to facilitate my review. All opinions expressed are my own.”

Doc McStuffins: Friendship is the Best Medicine

doc mcstuffins friendship is the best medicine
“I feel better, so much better, thank you Doc for takin’ all the ouchies away………”

This is my 3 year old’s favorite song.  She sings it 100 times a day, usually with a stethoscope and doctor kit in hand.  Why?  She’s playing Doc McStuffins of course, Disney’s adorable new kid-doctor who helps her toy friends get their ouchies away.  It’s cute, it’s fun, and what the kids don’t realize is that Doc’s helping her toy friends with problems that may just happen to kids in real life, and helps them realize that hey! it’s ok to need help, to ask for it, and how rewarding it is to help our friends.

Doc McStuffins is a six-year-old girl who plays with her stuffed animals and toys.  Each episode deals with a common ailment that a child could see a doctor.  Doc’s friends include Stuffy, an overly proud dragon; Lambie, her  cuddly best friend; Hallie, a jolly and caring  hippo nurse; Squeakers, an alarmist squeaky toy fish; and Chilly, a snowman who spends a lot of time getting check-ups at the clinic.  Ailments from low batteries to loose stitching are easy for Doc to repair.  Although she does ask her mom (a real doctor) for help in several episodes, showing that asking for help is a great idea.   Children learn lessons including imagination, teamwork, taking care of yourself and others, responsibility, and friendship from Doc McStuffins.   Each episode features two 11-minute stories and an original song and showcases the hallmarks of great Disney storytelling – fantasy and wish fulfillment.

What surprised ME most about this show is how much my 7 year old enjoys it.  I’d assumed this would be appealing to the younger crowd, but I’m very happy to report she loves it.  7 has proven to be a really tough TV age in my family- and while we don’t watch a ton with the kids, she seems to be in limbo between little kids shows (too babyish, mom!) and big kid shows (NOT appropriate in our eyes).  Doc McStuffins has offered a great transition-to-tween program option that is fun and appropriate without being babyish.  For that reason alone I love it.  I have had discussions with many of my daughter’s friends’ parents and they have said the same thing- finding shows that are age appropriate for a 6-8 year old can be really tough.

We were able to invite a few of the kids’ friends over to have a little viewing party to watch this DVD. The kids loved it. They all wanted clipboards of their own, of course, and doctor coats. I’m guessing that we’ll be seeing a few little Doc McStuffins characters come Halloween! Thankfully at least one of the other kids has a soft spot for Chilly the snowman and agrees with me that there should be more shows centered around the adorable snowman. It must be the hypochondriac in me…

The kids all seem to love this show because the characters are so relatable. Anything that promotes kindness, helping others and friendship without seeming preachy goes over well in my book.

Doc McStuffins: Friendship is the Best Medicine is available most anywhere DVDs are sold.

I received some promotional items and the DVD to facilitate my review. Opinions are my own.
