What Is Your Holiday Decorating Style? #BestDressedHome

Kmart And Sears Want To Know: What Is Your Holiday Decorating Style?

‘Tis the season to be jolly! Fa la la la la la la la la!”  What does jolly look like in (or out of) your home? Have you decorated for Christmas yet? While some people are procrastinators, others have had their decorations up since Thanksgiving. Decorating for the holidays is a tradition like none other—from decking the halls to trimming the tree—every family has its own unique way of getting their home ready for the season. My family falls just about in the middle of the two; not too early but not too last minute either. (Not like some in my family who don’t have a tree yet, and I’m not naming names or anything but you know how you are!) The folks over at Sears and Kmart recently conducted a survey about the different holiday decorating style people have and here is what they found:

  • 1 in 4 Americans will begin to deck the halls one month before the holiday.
  • 41 percent of Americans defined their signature design as “classic,” followed by “colorful” (37 percent) and “vintage” (12 percent).
  • More than half (58 percent) of participants felt the most essential decoration for the holidays was the Christmas tree.
  • Nearly 25 percent of Americans choose decorating as their favorite holiday activity, with listening to Christmas music and shopping as other favorites.

This post is part of my participation in the Kmart KClub Blogger program. Opinions are my own.

For myself and my family, the tree is definitely a main focal point of our holiday decorating. Our style is more on the classic side with some color thrown in there and all that power shopping is for sure at the bottom of my things I enjoy doing during the holidays! With the holidays are right around the corner, no retailer is better prepared to help you deck the halls than Kmart. Your house will be the jolliest on the block with a wide selection of lawn ornaments, inflatables and more. I needed a few last minute decorations for the house, so I headed out to Kmart and got myself the sweetest little inflatable and a pre-lit garland for our walkway lamppost.

To celebrate the uniqueness of this holiday tradition, Sears and Kmart are launching the Best Dressed HomeSweepstakes to capture how you and others across the US are decorating. Between 11/17-12/26, visit http://bit.ly/BestDressedHomeSweeps answer the poll questions and upload a photo of your home decked out for the holidays for a chance to win Shop Your Way points. 60 people will instantly win $50 in Shop Your Way points—you can enter daily and there will be 1 grand prize winner will win 1 million Shop Your Way points! So, for all of your holiday needs, Kmart has you covered! So what are you waiting for? Get over there and take advantage of their great selection and great prices!

The reindeer in our yard were originally from Sears, maybe 10 years ago?  They’ve lasted oh so long and we got them for such a great price. They are totally part of our holiday tradition.  Please note, this all looks so great with a little snowfall on it.

What’s your holiday decorating style?

Shop Kmart & Support St Jude

When the unthinkable happens and your child is ill, gravely ill, it’s devastating.  This little being who you love more than yourself is sick and you want to just be with them, taking care of them, advocating for them, spending time with them. For many families, this can’t always happen.  Why?  In a word? Money. Most families don’t have the financial resources available to cover the costs of a long term illness, including lodging, food and other treatment costs. Unless they go to St. Jude. Did you know that no family ever receives a bill from St. Jude? Not only are all of the medical costs associated with treatment covered, the family also receives free food and lodging, so the only thing mom and dad have to focus on is their child. Having had friends who’ve traveled down the road of supporting a family with a child ill, I’ve watched how hard the financial piece makes everything, and it’s just so unfair.  Things are already unfair when you have a sick child. St. Jude takes a huge burden off of families.

This holiday season, and every season, it’s a time to be thankful for those who are healthy in our life and give to those who are not. We do what we can here in our family to help others who may not be so fortunate, which we do year round, but try to do extra at the holidays.  Little things like seeking out stores and businesses who support those who are living the unthinkable. Take Kmart, for example.  Kmart toy shoppers have another way to give back to the St. Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign this holiday season.

St Jude

Between December 7th and December 13th, Kmart will donate $1 to St. Jude for every Fab 15 toy purchased, up to a maximum donation of $25,000. Kmart is already the all-time leading St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® fundraising partner. Pretty cool, huh?

So one Fab 15 toy that’s on so many wish lists gets purchased, and $1 goes to St. Jude.  If you are going to buy those toys anyway, why not head to where you can also do some good at the same time?

Get more for your money at Kmart #MoreChristmas #KClub

I’m conflicted about Black Friday shopping. I love to get the great deals, whenever I can, but don’t much care for the crowded shopping centers, long lines, and large doses of pure and utter madness that I’ve come to associate with this shopping day. But… then, sometimes the pure and utter madness is fun. And yet… I LOVE my bed and my sleep.  What I do love most of all, however, is getting the best prices I can get. Not shopping on Black Friday (or even shopping on Black Friday) doesn’t mean that I’m doomed to paying full price for holiday items. In fact, I often find deals just as good (if not better) than the Black Friday specials. All it takes it a bit of planning ahead.

This year, I have Kmart down as the first *stop.* There holiday deals this year are OUT. OF. THIS. WORLD. Not only have I included the details of the sale, I also threw in a few of my favorite specials as well! This post is sponsored as part of the Kmart KClub Blog Amabssador Program.  Opinions are my own.

Due to overwhelmingly positive member feedback, Kmart has extended its pre-Black Friday online member pre-sale! Shop Your Way members can shop exclusive Black Friday doorbuster deals online a full five days early, now starting at 5 a.m. on Sat, Nov. 22 through11:59 p.m. on Nov. 23.

Kmart Layaway now Online

I’ve been cracking up all day at the social media messages from my friends around Christmas. Seems to be about a 50/50 split with half of them being excited and eager to get a rush on their holiday decorating, and the other half cursing the people already posting pictures of their trees.

As for me?

I suppose I fall somewhere in between. While I haven’t gone full out and started pulling out my Christmas tree just yet, Christmas has taken up a nice chunk of space in my head. I’ve had my eye on a few presents my children have asking for awhile now.

Seems like Kmart is on the same page as me!

They’ve launched some awesome incentives to snag using their layaway plan, and it’s more convenient than ever! You don’t even have the leave the comfort of your home!!kmart-online-layaway

Kmart’s online layaway offers a convenient 8 week contract that only requires you to pay a $5 service fee. This program ensures that your family gets all of the gifts they want!

What kind of gifts can you put on Kmart layaway online?

Clothes – My top layaway gift. I love getting a head start on clothes…

Electronics- With everything from TVs to tablets I may have to throw in a gift or two for myself in this category!

Great things for the home – from frozen bedding for my kids to a new Keurig for my coffee loving mother-in-law, I can get it all at Kmart on layaway.

and… of course…

Toys – I’m nabbing the hottest gifts of the year before they get sold out, and hard to find. My son wants approximately ALL of the LEGO sets ever made, but he has been asking a lot for the LEGO City Arctic Base Camp and it’s a pretty popular set… that’s a big thing on my list I want checked off ASAP! I can grab it now and finish paying over time if I need to. That’s worth $5- plus I can do it from home. No late night trips to the stores for me this year!

kmart layaway lego

Once I click to select layaway, I can just click to see what my payments will be and when they are due.  If I want this shipped to my house before Christmas I need to finish payments before the timeframe (which is OK with me)…

kmart layaway calculator

Once I start my process and enter the ship and billing addresses, my layaway order summary comes up.

To make this deal even sweater, I can save even more with my Shop Your Way membership! Kmart’s Fab 15 Holiday Toys #HGG

Kmart has a LOT of the hottest toys this holiday season.

  • Johnny The Skull  Johnny the Skull is an electronic game that, when he swivels his head around the room, ghosts are projected from his eye. Shoot quick or you may miss them! The blaster will count the number of ghosts hit. Hear the ghosts make spooky sounds throughout the game. Game has 3 different skill levels — can you master them all?
  • Twister Dance An updated, modern version of the ever-popular, classic game.  It’s Twister, 2012 style.  Fun for parties and family get togethers!
  • WEE Brawlin’ Buddies Stuffed versions of popular WWE stars who can handle a throwdown and even use familiar phrases used by the real stars!

furreal friends bouncy pup exclusive kmart gift set

  • FurReal Friends Bouncy My Happy To See Me Pup- This little pup is just cute as can be.  A nice small size, this little pup comes with it’s very own tote bag and brush (an exclusive to Kmart gift set) and is all ready to interact and play with your little one.  This little pup even jumps and spins!
  • Monsuno Strike Sector Combat Set Step up your game and take your Monsuno action into the battle zone! The Monsuno Strike Sector Combat Set allows for fast-paced battle anytime, anywhere. Quickly & easily snaps apart and folds up for easy transport! Comes with an EXCLUSIVE translucent blue Charger figure, core & card!

holiday barbie 2012

  • 2012 Brunette Holiday Barbie- This is a brunette Barbie in a gorgeous, holiday red ball gown, with shimmer and silver accents.  She’s a favorite collectible and any Barbie fan will love to have her!

lego monster fighters vampyre hearse

  • LEGO Monster Fighters: The Vampyre Hearse With all of the success of the Twilight movies, LEGO has found a way to give the “bigger” kids some fun – and safe- vampire toys.  We’re huge LEGO fans anyway in this house but I am loving the “edge” of this product line!
  • HotWheels Dune Racer Ride On My son would be over the moon for this dune racer, although it’s not in our budget and we have some ride on toys already.   It is totally cool, though.  I wouldn’t mind if Santa dropped one by the house!
  • Furby Furby’s back and I secretly hope someone decides to tell Santa I’d not mind having a pink one.  Why?  I was “too old” for them last time, but always wanted one.  Now they are back and the kids are almost old enough…and I still want one!  It’s hard to resist such a cute, furry toy that’s interactive.
  • Air Hogs Hover Assault- Super cool R/C vehicle that can also FLY!
  • Imaginext Castle- We are HUGE fans of the Imaginext Line- so much opportunity for creative and dramatic play!  There are also accessories and add ons for every budget and this is going to be a big hit under the tree….and one of those toys that’s played with for a really long time.  Anything Imaginext we’ve had has been played with for hours upon hours a week…
  • Cinderella Enchanted Carriage Vanity My 3 year old is fully engrossed in the world of princesses.  She saw this vanity in the store and I’m telling you, my child’s eyes filled up with tears.  “It’s so beautiful, mommy,” she said in a whisper.
  • LeapFrog Explorer LeapPad2 The #1 learning tablet just got better! LeapPad2 Explorer inspires kids to imagine and explore with front-and-back cameras and video recorders, 4 GB of memory and a library of 325+ cartridges and downloadable apps, including eBooks, videos, music, creativity apps and more for limitless learning and fun!
  • Master Moves Mickey- Mickey’s always a hit and Master Moves Mickey is no exception. He’s a dancing machine and does handstands and even 360 spins.
  • Monster High Roller Maze Gift Set Skultimate Roller Maze is a ferocious game that requires monster skills. Unfortunately, the star players have all gotten injured, and the ghouls of Monster High have to save the day! This Kmart exclusive gift set includes both Ghoulia Yelps and Abbey Bominable dolls. Ready to roll, each player has a “fangtastic” skating outfit with helmet, knee pads and skates.

And Kmart has some of the hot toys that aren’t ON the list- like any of the Doc McStuffins toys- each time I head to Kmart I peek at the Fab 15 toys and check for Doc McStuffins and I can tell you that at least in the Vernon, CT store, there have been items in stock a few times per week…when other local stores are sold out!
What are the toys on YOUR shopping list this year?

Samples of these products were received in exchange for this post.  The samples were photographed in their packaging so that we could donate them to ToysforTots.

We are getting so excited for Halloween! #KmartHalloween

Halloween is SO close- just a few more weeks to wait!  The kids are getting so excited to wear their costumes…and I admit, I LOVE seeing kids all dressed up for Halloween.  Not just my own- I love seeing what they come up with for ideas, their costume choices.  It’s just so much fun.

We like to decorate the outside of the house first, to get ready for Halloween.  We grow pumpkins in the garden so those are usually the first thing outside- sadly, in August this year, so they are probably not going to make it until the big day.  We like to put those fake spider webs on the bushes on either side of the front door of the house, and I have a cute witch that ‘crashes’ into the front door.  Lots of fun, and that’s just outside!  Inside, we have fun Hallween dishes and serving bowls, window clings and other fun decor scattered through out the house.  I even found Halloween pillowcases for the kids one year, one of which glows in the dark…maybe they’ll be old enough this year to not get so scared by it!  And yes, I do usually get Halloween pajamas for them…maybe even cute ghost underwear this year. It’s a fun holiday, so why not live it up?

Kmart has tons of great Halloween items at superb prices.  Not just costumes, although I am telling you that you really need to go check out the Kmart Kreator.  I want to see what you all come up with.  I made myself Batgirl, you can do it!  Look how easy it is to share, once you’ve done it! (Be warned: you will need to shrink your image file down, the site doesn’t seem to like very large files).  ANDDDDD…you’ll see that lovely little $5 coupon in the corner, once you’ve made a costume. It’s fun and it’s easy and I think it’d be a great way to help someone decide WHAT they want to be for Halloween- you can choose theme options, and once you’ve decided on your theme, you choose a costume, add your photo and then you can customize.  Wigs, accessories- they are all there, so you can be silly and have fun all you want!  Then, when you have created your Kostume, you’ll see images available at Kmart that are available for purchase to recreate your Kostume in real life.  I’m not sure I WILL dress up like Batgirl but hey, if I do?  I’ll be able to grab what I need at Kmart.  I’ll even know what to get ahead of time.

I think these adorableGhost pathway markers would look great in front of my house- festive without being scary (can you tell I am not into the frighten yourself aspect of Halloween?) and under $30!  Love the pricing!

Besides decorating, we like to do lots of crafts and baking to get ready for Halloween.  I’m going to attempt some festive bento-style lunches and snacks for Halloween week, so if you have any suggestions for ideas I would love to hear them!

Kmart’s Big Layaway Giveaway- WEEKLY winners!

This is a sponsored post, I am a Kmart Layaway blogger, though all opinions are my own.

Have you entered Kmart’s Big Layaway Giveaway yet?  It’s still going, and there’s PLENTY of time for you to get your layaway going.  Remember, there is one winner PER STORE each week!  One winner per store per week.

Kmart’s got free layaway available.  That means you can start getting those hot-ticket items and the must-have items on their wish lists and set them aside for the holidays….without having to worry that when you do have the cash, the store won’t have stock.  That’s one of my biggest fears, is having one special item that would really make a holiday or occasion special, and not being able to find it in a store.  I am one of those people who refuses to pay inflated prices just because it’s the holidays, and I’m determined not to do that…

Of course, holiday gifts don’t just have to be for others, right?  I mean, couldn’t Santa bring our family a gorgeous rug like this for our dining room, to replace the what-was-I-thinking cream colored rug in a house with three small children, a dog and a cat?  I would add this to my layaway in a second.  Of course, it would probably lead me to adding some matching or coordinating rugs for the kitchen area, but that’s neither here nor there.  RIGHT?

Honestly, though, if we were to do a layaway this year, we’d probably add in this dishwasher (or similar)

or a refrigerator.  That’s what’s great about the Kmart layaway- you really can put just about anything ON the layaway.  Could you imagine if we did put those on layaway, and we were the winners from our local store?

I would officially like to have a laptop with a larger screen!

What would YOU put on layaway? Have you taken advantage of Kmart’s Big Layaway Giveaway and started your layaway yet?

* NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.  Ends 11/17/12.  For Official Rules, visit a participating Kmart location or www.kmart.com/layawaygiveaway.

Kmart’s Big Layaway Giveaway

This post brought to you by Kmart. All opinions are 100% mine.

It’s September 12th today.  The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and there are 103 shopping days until Christmas.  For some, that means nothing- for many, including me, it means it’s time to start planning the budget for holiday shopping.  One option for holiday shopping is free layaway.  Kmart has a great layaway program and just in time for holiday shopping and layaways beginning, they have launched  Kmart’s Big Layaway Giveaway!

The Big Layaway Giveaway is going to be huge.  There will be one layaway giveaway PER STORE each week from 9/9/12 through 11/17/12!  That’s a lot of stores, and a LOT of layaway prizes!  Now’s the time to place those gifts you’ve been eying on layaway and also get the chance to win some great prizes at Kmart!

Shopping for holiday gifts can be a challenge- not only financially, but timing can be a factor.  You don’t want to not have that one magical thing under the tree that your child has been wishing so hard for, so now’s the time to grab it and put it on layaway so you are sure to have it come December 25! I know my oldest would LOVE a new bike, and this bike would make her smile very big with a bow on it Christmas morning!

Kmart’s layaway offers many more options for consumers than competitors.  It’s available nationwide, all year round, with no product minimums.  You can pay online or in store, pay online and pick up in store- and if you want to get something special for someone who’s not local to you, you can still use layaway- items can be picked up in a different store! Best of all, there are no service fees associated with Kmart’s layaway.

* NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.  Ends 11/17/12.  For Official Rules, visit a participating Kmart location or www.kmart.com/layawaygiveaway.
