Chuck’s Proposal (Chuck: Season 4)

In episode 13, Chuck finally proposes to Sarah in the hospital hallway. She accepts, kneeling with him and kissing him as the scene fades. Was this delightful and epic episode of Chuck everything that you had been waiting for? What was your reaction to Chuck’s quiet and successful proposal to Sarah?

I love love loved Chuck’s proposal to Sarah.  Simple and quiet, it just spoke volumes to me.  I prefer simplicity to over the top (at least for me) and loved it.  Had it been different I don’t think it would have been ‘true’ to Chuck and Sarah’s characters. This was actually one of the first Chuck episodes I’d seen any part of and I thought it was great without knowing the back story, and loved it more when I learned more about the show!  [click to continue…]

The Bat Jar Conjecture (More Big Bang Theory…)

In episode 13 from season one of The Big Bang Theory, “The Bat Jar Conjecture,” which aired Wednesday October 10th, Sheldon’s arrogance ostracizes him from the group which leads to him competing directly against his friends with Sheldon’s Group. Have you ever competed against a good friend? If your best friend knew that one item that would make amends, what would it be? Is it as funny as a batman cookie jar?

Competing against friends can be a lot of fun or a lot of drama.  I like it a lot more when its a lot of fun.  I wish I had a funny story like the Bat Jar Conjecture, but I don’t.  I’m too boring.  (Um, hold up.  Did I just say I’m more boring than “geeks” for real?  Here, on the internet, where anyone can see?  Sigh.  Times have changed…)  A Batman cookie jar wouldn’t do much for me at all, but a Cadbury creme egg, or a 7-11 coke slurpee would be a pretty nice amends-making item…ohhhhhhhhh or a pedicure.  That would be perfect to make amends!!

The Middle: Season Two (When consequences don’t fit the crime)

After Axl leaves his dirty smelly socks lying around the house one too many times during season two of The Middle, Mike punished his son by banning him from playing his basketball team’s final game. Given the Heck legacy on the basketball team, do you think it was the best decision?

I get the wanting a consequence that will leave an impression on your child- but I think Mike’s punishment for this “crime” was way overboard.  I think he could have been a bit more creative with his consequence and had a better effect. The consequence didn’t fit the crime!!

I’ve had many instances where my time didn’t fit the crime- but I can’t say I blame my parents.  I’m the youngest of 8 and quite frankly the one who tried (and failed) to get away with the most.  But oh, boy.  I’ve had so many times when I got doled out some crazy consequences for things- some intentional, some unintentional- but too many times, and I say this as a mom myself, never allowed out of things.  My parents gave a punishment, and that was that.  If you argued or fought them on it, you ended up in deeper trouble.  If you were grounded for 9 days, you were grounded for 9 days.  Any back talk or discussion led to a lengthier punishment.  Not fun, but that’s how it was.  Unfortunately for me I like to have the last word.  That, and I wasn’t always the brightest bulb on the light….so I all too frequently had enormous consequences for small infractions.  I also had a few instances that as a mom, I’d go back and talk to my kids later and discuss things, and change the punishment, but my parents didn’t do that.  Live and learn.  [click to continue…]

The Middle Earth Paradigm: My vote is for Wallowitz’ costume!

The Middle Earth Paradigm” from Season 1 of The Big Bang Theory aired Monday 9/26. In the episode, the gang attends a costume party in Penny’s apartment.  Penny dresses as a cat, Sheldon dresses as the doppler effect, Leonard is Frodo from Lord of the Rings, Howard is Robin Hood but gets mistaken for Peter Pan and Raj is Thor, the Norse god of thunder. Each costume is interesting for each character (Raj, the quietest of the group, is the god of thunder).

This is one of my top favorite episodes of the show.  The Peter Pan thing is so perfect and so hilarious for Howard!  Its hard to not laugh aloud.  He’s always wearing those darn dickies on his neck…and living with his mom- the Peter Pan confusion simply gives the guys more to tease him about!!   So hilarious (and SO Peter Pan…not Robin Hood)!  The “casting” for the costumes for each of the Big Bang friends is spot on- Leonard IS Frodo, and the more you think about it, the more you know its the perfect costume for him- Sheldon is over the top as always, and Raj’s thunder god is great, and fun!  Leonard’s Frodo is a close second to Howard’s Peter Pan/Robin Hood but for the humor alone I have to stick with my vote: Wallowitz.  [click to continue…]

Get your Bazinga on 5 nights a week!

In the Pilot Episode of The Big Bang Theory which aired  Monday 9/19, Leonard meets Penny for the first time and is immediately infatuated with her. While his roommates say that she is an unattainable goal, Leonard is an idealist and strives to be worthy of her. Even going so far as to confront her much larger and stronger ex-boyfriend, resulting in him getting de-pantsed.

While I’ve never experienced being “pantsed” as Leonard did by Penny’s beefcake ex boyfriend, I have had embarassing moments.  Like the day when I tried to step over a simply chain strung between two steel posts meant to deter cars from driving on the walkways at my college, and instead managed to somehow trip over…in front of the entire cafeteria full of people in broad daylight.  That was a great moment in the history book that tells the story of “the things that happen to Brett when things really shouldn’t happen to Brett.”  Not a book that would be a best seller but it might get a chuckle out of a person or two!
What’s the most embarassing thing you’ve had happen to you?

The Middle (Season Two) on DVD 9/27

In one episode of The Middle, Season Two, Brick shares Sue’s room where they accidently knock a hole in her wall, they try to fix it but only make it worse. They attempt to cover it up by putting a poster over it but it doesn’t work.

Reading that sentence made me laugh out loud.  Literally.  You see, when I was little, I was at my godmother’s lake house, and spilled red kool-aid mix on her rug.  Stupidly, instead of running to tell her I had spilled and made a mess, I got a wet towel to wipe it up.  As you can imagine…this made it 100 times worse, and I didn’t know what to do. I kind of think I may have moved a chair over the BLATANTLY obvious huge, wet, bright red stain on the light colored rug, and tried to get away with it- my godmother still laughs about it to this day- and apparently, had a good laugh when, a few years ago, she pulled up the rugs to redo her floors and discovered that while the stain had been removed from the carpeting, it was there, in all its bright red-ness, on the rug pad.  She thankfully forgave me and loves me anyway…  [click to continue…]

Supernatural Season 6: Times have changed things for the Winchesters

Season 5 of Supernatural ended with a banger between the gates of Hell opening up and fights with angels it was quite a departure from the earlier seasons but demonstrates how the show has evolved.  I think its great how much Warner Brothers has stayed with Sam and Dean and allowed them, their characters, their storylines and their relationship with one another change, evolve and grow over time- I think that’s a key element of a successful series that can last a long while.  With the changes that have evolved, readers WANT to stay tuned, are engaged, and are intrigued and what to know what is next for the beloved Winchester brothers.

I first saw Supernatural in Season 2, I am fairly sure that the episode was Nightshifter, and WOW.  The build up and suspense was awesome!!  The evolution and changes in the show since then are fitting and appropriate for sure.    It would be pretty cool to pop a DVD in and check out Nightshifter and then watch a current episode and do a comparison of the changes throughout.

White Lies & Parenting (The Middle)

“Have your kids ever caught you in a lie? See how Frankie, the loving wife and mother of three from ABC’s The Middle handles her white lies when her youngest son becomes the wiser. Available for pre-order! http://bit.ly/qliHr2″

My kids haven’t caught me in a lie (yet) but I know they will, and I dread the day.  For instance- for good or bad, don’t judge- I borrowed this from a friend of mine- we kind of told the kids that when the ice cream trucks play music, it means they don’t have any more ice cream left for the day.  In our defense, we do let them have ice cream- but for the four times a year that the ice cream truck goes near our house- its very dangerous- we live on a busy road right smack in the middle of a long, straight section.  So running to the ice cream truck scares us.  We are fully aware that we will be found out, and don’t make a habit of lying to our kids, so I know we’ll face the proverbial music sooner or later.  In the meantime, we’ll get in the car and head out for ice cream when that music plays on the truck… [click to continue…]

Can guy/girl friendships be enough? (Big Bang Theory)

Until season 4, ‘The Big Bang Theory’ primarily focused on the core friendship of the guys with Penny as the lone girl. In Season 4, Penny gets some girlfriends with the introduction of Bernadette and Amy. Do you think that guys and girls can have standalone deep friendship or do girls need girl time and guys need time with the boys?

I love the relationship that Penny has, and always has had, with ‘the guys’ from The Big Bang Theory.  Its funny, its fresh, its new- or rather, it was.  I had mixed feelings last year when Penny started developing other friendships with the females in the lives of the guys- but over time, I got used to it and even grew to enjoy it.  I still love the original concept of Penny being “it” for gal pals for the guys, and them being her circle of close friends.    As much as I loved rooting for Leonard and Penny to stay together, I think the show will be better for a longer time if they are apart.  [click to continue…]
